I have this pirate set too, now that I look back, I had lots of pirate stuff. I can't wait to rebuild everything with my kids (or maybe sooner lol).

^Holy shit, that base plate.

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME THE NAME OF THE TWO SPACE ARMIES THAT USED TO BE ENEMIES BACK IN THE 90S...LIKE BLACKTRON AND SOMETHING ELSE ALONG THOSE LINES

I don't remember the other side, but I remember Blacktron, I actually just found a picture of one of my favorites from that series.

And I'm 99% sure I have this set too:

I should quit posting these though, I could spend all day finding my sets on Brickset, lol.

If we are getting into nostalgia stuffs... some of my sets from childhood:

HNNGHHH... nostalgia overload...

It's amazing to see all the hate generated on the Interwebs about it. Somehow Lego has become a force for evil because they've dared release a series targeted at one gender.

It's like these people slept through Lego's Hero Factory sets (directly targeted at power-play boys). Or the Belleville sets which were also targeted at girls and were way less creative than these new sets.

I think this is a brilliant move by Lego. Almost subversive, too. When I think of all those mums I've heard saying "nah, couldn't get my daughter Lego, there's nothing for girls" ... and now there's stuff that's specifically in that market and it's actually got scope for creativity... yeah, subversive :-)

Yeah, one interesting thing that I've seen is I've seen people criticizing Lego Friends for being too stereotypically girly - yet according to the WSJ article Lego's researchers found that stereotypically girly stuff was what caught the eye of their target audience. The real question is then, can Lego hold on to these new customers? Would they naturally transition to other Lego lines, or would Lego need to come up with a sort of intermediate line?

I've also seen people arguing for female-oriented lines that aren't as stereotypically girly, but I fear that's a balancing act that Lego would have trouble pulling off. I mean, at the end of the day most Lego sets are gender-neutral anyways, but the line is associated as a "boys' toy", so I feel like some concessions have to be made.

I do own (some parts of) this:
lego_intro.jpg

It's a shame I wasn't old enough to value it as much as I should have at that time. I really need to look for the parts of this again when I get my hands on my legos again.

Think I'm going to bust out the container and rebuild some of my older sets. Now that I have a place of my own, I can display them :D

Pet Shop, Grand Emporium, Wolkswagen T1 Camper Van and Shuttle Expedition are right up my alley. Must research into the Pet Shop theme, I would love to have a whole town.

The pet shop and grand emporium are part of a combination with also a fire station and perhaps even one more. Not sure though.

The shuttle expedition is awesome for it's price. Lots of building fun. One complaint: it is mostly white pieces :p

Plus Cafe Cornor and Green Grocer, both of which are no longer in production :(

I went shopping for wine for my fiance tonight and ended up going to Meijer, Target, and Marshall's. I found a bunch of sets on sale:

8078 Portal of Atlantis - $70
7326 Rise of the Sphinx - $37.50
7189 Mill Village Raid - $50
7182 Knig's Carriage Ambush - $30
7572 Quest Against Time - $29

I had no intention of spending all that, but for those prices, I couldn't pass them by. I was VERY confused by the Mill Village Raid find at Marshall's. They usually have random sets at ~25-30% off, but to see a set like that was pretty awesome. Overall a successful random trip.

I had some of the vanilla LEGOLAND stuff before, but this is the first real set I remember receiving:

And this was my first step into the world of Technic Lego:

I still have a lot of my Lego now. Even brought it to Tokyo with me.

Had some friends over for a building party tonight and we made this! (Actually I had nothing to do with it, I built a far less impressive Hoth Wampa cave :))

I'm going to tackle Fallingwater tomorrow, really looking forward to that.

Have you built any of the other large modular sets? I enjoyed the Grand Emporium quite a bit, and I've been trying to decide between Fire Brigade and the Pet Shop. Both seem to have their perks in terms of piece selection for MOC'ing, but I'm also interested in how much the set itself offers.

Yeah we built the grocery store and have the fire station and grand emporium still to do. They are major builds but a lot of fun.

One thing I really enjoyed about the Super Star Destroyer was a lack of special pieces.

That pet shop looks like a fun build.

BURP?

I pretty much mean special pieces for the set. Everything looked like normal LEGO pieces.

BURP - Big Ugly Rock Piece...VERY specialized piece that is a good starting point for rock/cliff/etc MOC'ing

BURP%201.jpg

And yeah, that's cool. It's nice when the set isn't FULL of hard to find pieces.

This was one of my first sets :)

Loved the ghost that glows in the dark! :D

Got my massive lego part boxes from my parents basement after Christmas. Been trying to put together some classic sets, but finding the pieces from the mass is slow and painful. Found everything to that set except the visor for knights helmet, argh.

Thinking about returning my DSi XL that I got for xmas and buying some Lego sets! Just went to brickset and found all my old sets that I used to own:

Sabre Island
Vector Detector
Race Car Number 1
Rock Island Refuge
Technic Hovercraft

I have the VW Camper Van waiting at home when I get back from vacation!

This was SUCH a treat to build. :)

nicoga3000 loves using LEGO terms, perhaps we should ask him to compile a list for the OP? =)

Haha - sorry, I've always got a tab for Eurobricks open next to GAF at work. :P If BURP - Big Ugly Rock Piece and SNOT - Studs Not On Top were added, we'd have a majority of the more common ones covered.

Has there been any pics of the upcoming LOTR LEGOs yet?

I saw a YouTube clip showing the boxes of a number of sets. They didn't show much and not sure if they were final but they looked okay.

I'll see if I can find the link. I found it on the eurobrick forum btw.

I have so many of these pieces (plus its fatter cousin), its ridiculous.

Wal-Mart is running a pretty widespread 50% off clearance on a bunch of older sets.

I was inspired by this thread and the sale and picked up my first set in years.

It's best if you can visit more than one store. The first store I saw didn't have much left but the second one I went to had a great variety.

Here's a post with a bunch of details about the clearance:

Man, I wish we could get that Spongebob set for $20 here. I've got a few Spongebob sets, but I really want a Squidward figure, and that set is like $80 here. Damn you, America.

I've put in four Bricklink orders in the past two days to try and get all the parts ironed out for:

3724-1.jpg

One final order and I should be done. Holy lord...It's getting expensive (mainly the stupid 2x2 green corner blocks). I've actually opted to swap out the 2x8 bricks for twice the number of 2x4 bricks. A few little tweaks here and there, but I think it's about done! I'm SO excited to get all the orders in and display this adorable guy.

Wow, that VW camper looks awesome. Tempting, but $115 is a chunk of change. Built

LEGO6914.jpg

with my four year old as her first set last week. She put everything together and I picked all the pieces. I had bought my seven year old this one:

LEGO7292.jpg

and she built the hovercraft by herself. At one point she came in and admonished me for not pre-sorting all the pieces before starting to build with my youngest--pretty cute.

those creators in the post above yours are probably a good place to start - not too complex and you get instructions for three models, in case they don't like the main one. Do what that poster did, and dig the pieces out for each step in advance, so your son can concentrate on putting them together.

Jonnyram, I had both those sets when I was little. Rebought 8860 from ebay now I'm older (parents gave away our lego when we grew up..)
