Is that Samsonite the same one that sells luggage?

Looks like it. From wiki:

Beginning in 1961, Samsonite manufactured and distributed Lego building toys for the North American market under licence from the Danish parent firm. A licensing dispute ended the arrangement in the U.S. in 1972, but Samsonite remained the distributor in Canada until 1986. Stan A. Clamage was instrumental in establishing the Lego brand in the United States. This was part of an overall company expansion into toy manufacturing in the 1960s that was abandoned in the 1970s.

Update from Lego on Modular Western Town:

Congratulatory Message from LEGO for 5,000 votes!

2012/03/15

Dear mb_bricks,
Congratulations on passing this milestone of 5,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO for the Modular Western Town. You're halfway there!

Over the coming weeks, veteran designer Steen Sig Andersen, the same designer who built the final Shinkai 6500 and LEGO Minecraft Micro World models, will investigate your Modular Western Town model and build our own concept. We will post the results here with our comments once that is complete.

Best wishes as you continue on your journey to achieving 10,000 supporters on LEGO CUUSOO.

Woo, I got my Tower Bridge a day earlier than I expected! Looking forward to starting on it this weekend. The box is even more massive than I thought it would be.

A western themed town set would be cool. I did have a few of the cowboys sets as a kid. However I'm guessing they'll probably shrink it to a similar size as the Medieval Market Village.

Speaking of which I've built one of the houses. Will build the other one tomorrow.

My first thought was exactly the same thing - Western Street or something like that. It would still be a really cool build and design I bet!

Too bad that wasn't a Back to the Future western street =(

More people need to vote on the BTTF Delorean so that Lego will look into getting the license!

Set up Fed Ex to hold my Town Hall at the office down the road from the apartment. That way I know I will get it tomorrow if I am late getting off work. Our apartment office hours are so wonky.

How do you do that?

On the tracking page for the package there is an option to have them hold it at a FedEx Office location. I am setting it to be held down the road because I know traffic tomorrow is going to be killer, and I dont know if I have to sign for the package. UPS will usually just leave it at my apartment door if they can, but this is the first thing I have ever gotten from FedEx, so I dont know when they will show up or what they will do. UPS is usually around 7-8pm here. I hope FedEx is earlier. Wanting to start that build tomorrow.

Also, it looks like my Tower Bridge I ordered last night is set to deliver on Tuesday. Wednesday is going to be a blast. Building Tower Bridge, then off to see Casablanca in the theater.

Question for everyone:

Do you want more progress pics for Town Hall like I did with Fire Brigade?
And do you want another Time Lapse video for either Town Hall or Tower Bridge? And if so, was the speed good for everyone (1 frame every 10 seconds) or do you want it slower?

Made the first floor of the Fire Brigade tonight. My first modular build, and it was a lot of fun (thought he base sidewalks was just a pain, but thankfully it was over quickly).

The part that was the hardest to get to stay straight and not bow was the large flat top piece that is in the middle of the fire house. Those non studded large plates are a pain to get on without the plate bowing some.

But enjoy the rest of the build. The second floor and roof were the best parts for me.

OK who what set in the past used frogs that needed tiny frog molds, because putting together the firehouse, I noticed the hat racks were little silver frogs....

Oh wow. So I went to Target today for some last minute grocery shopping, and I couldn't help but peek into the toy section. AND O.M.G. Lego sets!

I compulsively went for the X-wing, but I also saw the millenium falco. This is my first lego set ever. I had a little too much fun with it. I mean, when everything started fitting so well, and how pieces actually make the wings move. So awesome. My entire evening gone so quickly!

My brother told me there's a lego store here by Colorado Mills. I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING THIS WEEKEND!

Also, what do you guys do with the leftover pieces?

Let me know how the Colorado Mills store is, I've only ever been to the Park meadows store (little bit closer)

I recently got the Sonic Boom set in the mail and quickly built it. It's a wonderful set that recently got EOL'd though some retailers still have it. I decided to buy it since it's one of the few creator sets that is actually minifigure scale and included 2 light bricks.

The box is really big and weighs almost 3 lbs due to all the big wing plate pieces.

So tempted to order this. It's still available on LEGO.com.au and I have some VIP points that would give me free shipping.

Just need to bite the bullet...

the colorado mills one is pretty nice. I don't know how it compares to others, but they had a fairly broad selection of shit I can't just find at target. I remember walking out of that one with the viking longship however long ago that was to be new.

I would like to see the time lapse. I just bought a gorillapod, glif and timelapse pro on my iPhone to basically time lapse LEGO builds. I'm still trying to find the right settings in terms of how often to take images and what FPS is best to set the video at. This video was done at taking 1 image every second but it probably only took me 10 minutes to do the build. I need to work on the position of the camera next time so you can see the LEGO more as opposed to my hands.

I think for a longer build an image every 5-10 seconds is probably best and process it at 15 FPS. Let me know what you decide to do settings wise and I will probably do something similar on my next build. Also what are you using to create your video?

Lego.com won't accept my credit card so no Fire Brigade for me I guess. Oh well, I could probably use that money better anyways :P

I was just building the medieval market village with my girlfriend, and it had a tiny green frog, so that one, at least. There's probably other sets that used one as well.

Also oh my goodness this set is beautiful. Screw the modular houses, give me a modular medieval city and my bank account will BLEED.

The frogs do pop up in the weirdest places. Cafe Corner has five of them sitting atop windows, gargoyle like.

Out of curiosity, I did a quick search on Bricklink and they've appeared in 39 sets, going back to 2001.

Finished building Slave 1 tonight. Really fun build and I'm so happy I bought it.

And what's with everyone taking pictures of their X-Wing and of Porkins holding a lightsaber? Man wasn't a Jedi, give him a blaster!

Finished Fire Brigade <3

Some pretty repetitive parts but surprisingly fun. I usually hate vehicles but the fire truck is pretty cool.

This is a tale...of America in the 1930s.

Amidst a great depression, President Roosevelt ordered construction of a grand Fire Station to revitalize the economy. And so it was built.

During Christmas.

Next to the great Pyramids of Egypt.

And it was attacked by a scorpion.

That pyramid is like the most unique thing in this thread for months now, I demand more pics of that one!

I must be one of the few regular posters in this thread who doesn't have the fire house by now.

I don't, but I don't own any modulars or sets that cost more than £20. Student budget won't stretch to large sets of LEGO :p
