YESSSSSSSSSSS.

For once, holding out/feeling guilty about spending even more money on "toys" has paid off.

A local online vendor - shopforme.com.au - had a price blitz today... And with that price blitz came a fresh stocking of the Mini Modulars... at a ridiculous 90AUD. AND they allow for pick-up. Needless to say, I bought that shit asap; and the cherry on top? Sold out not a couple of hours later.

I should probably point out that, previously, the only way to get my hands on the Mini Modulars was via ebay/Lego.com for 130AUD + the excruciating waiting time. The Legods smile on me today, my friends.

Any Aussies in here: I suggest you check it out!

I would like to see the time lapse. I just bought a gorillapod, glif and timelapse pro on my iPhone to basically time lapse LEGO builds. I'm still trying to find the right settings in terms of how often to take images and what FPS is best to set the video at. This video was done at taking 1 image every second but it probably only took me 10 minutes to do the build. I need to work on the position of the camera next time so you can see the LEGO more as opposed to my hands.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8sk9lYTifg

I think for a longer build an image every 5-10 seconds is probably best and process it at 15 FPS. Let me know what you decide to do settings wise and I will probably do something similar on my next build. Also what are you using to create your video?

I am using Gawker on Mac. Just using the built in camera on my iMac. I dragged my kitchen table over to the computer to get the whole table in frame and went from there. That Falcon video I posted was my first attempt. It was 24 fps, 1 frame every ten seconds. The two hours Falcon build wound up being a 25 sec video or so with that frame rate. I also have it putting a time stamp on the bottom.

I thought of doing one frame every 5 or 8 seconds, but that might make the vids for a huge build like Town Hall be REALLY long, but it will show more of the evolution. I think the Falcon vid came out fairly well for a first pass though. Not too slow, but maybe a smidge too fast.

I thought about using my phone for the next vid, but it is so much easier to just leave my computer sitting there and not worry about anything like angles.

Neither do I.

I'm just not feeling the modulars at all but then other than for parts my collection is 95% Space (including SW).

I was the same way. It was Space or bust! (Well, some castle and pirates stuff too. And technic). But damn, am I hooked on those modulars after building one. Just so much fun in it.

I don't have it either.

I don't, but I don't own any modulars or sets that cost more than £20. Student budget won't stretch to large sets of LEGO :p

Well nice to see I'm not alone. Just with the influx of people buying it recently it was almost the only thing you'd see here.

@Cindres I was like that too until recently. Only bought a couple of cheap sets and treated myself to the Christmas set once a year. Suddenly got a bit of money and I bought myself the Medieval Market Village. It's been on the market for so long that the booklet has pictures of the Taj Mahal which hasn't been available for years.

I hope the Haunted House looks interesting as it sounds. That could be my first modular.

Modulars are expensive, but it's almost a sin for an AFOL not to own them. ;)

But really, the building techniques and the polish of the modular buildings are just mind blowing. TLG has done a really really great job with them, and if you like to have a nice display setup, the modulars are incredible pieces. On top of that, if you like to build MOC's, the various modulars provide an excellent starting point for building up your piece base!

The other fact is, the modulars go up in price after going OOP. With Fire Brigade going OOP very soon, a lot of people are picking it up so they aren't spending a fortune on them later. And really, if you're "that type of person", the ROI on an OOP modular is quite impressive.

Got this while at the EA press conference at GDC this year. Always wanted to try out Nanoblocks. Don't do this on carpet!!! I'm glad I picked a clear area to do this in and kept all the pieces in a tray because they're quite easy to lose. Fun to put together, but does get old and monotonous after awhile.

Yeah. The price per brick with modulars is awesome. Another reason I love them.

If I were to ever buy a non-Lego brand building block, Nanoblocks would be them.

Pretty much. There's some really good stuff on there (Modular Grand Emporium for 35% off? Yes please) but its all sold out now. Still, I now know to keep an eye on the site, so that's something.

yeah looking through there's some good stuff, medieval market for AUD$102 is pretty good, even though I've already got it, great price on the grand emporium if you're willing to accept a damaged box.

ooh imperial flagship

Better get it soon if you're on the fence, sounds like it's being discontinued very soon. My local store said this was their final shipment.

I've decided not to buy it. I am not a completionist (thank God for that :P) and I simply cannot afford to buy all modulars. I am extremely happy with my Grand Emporium and I am one lucky guy to get the Pet Shop from my wife on my birthday.
But that's it for me. I'll skip Town Hall too, but maybe in the future I will buy another modular if I fancy it :D

But what if there's a fire at the Grand Emporium or the Pet Shop?

Those poor animals....

Oh, I see how it is, Wetwired. Humph.

hah just joshing, I wouldn't have gotten the mini modulars anyway, even though I own all of the big ones except town hall for some reason they just don't appeal to me, I'd much prefer to get something new and different like the tower bridge.

Neither do I.

I wish I went for the modulars instead of dropping over $600 on the ucs falcon.

I think building and displaying the whole street would be cool.

I named dropped Gary Whitta to my g/f, after we had built Obi-Wan's starfighter together. Was all like, "Yeahhh... The guy that wrote Book of Eli and has a new film with Will Smith and his son in it, Gary Whitta ... He posts in the Lego thread quite a bit." I was hoping to give my future purchase of another set some legitimacy. heh

Nano blocks are ace. If I get the chance I'll post a pic of my Lego shuttle next to my nano blocks shuttle. We bought the Tokyo skytree at Christmas which is a difficult and fiddly build - so many 1x1 bricks, and each brick is 1/8 the size of a Lego brick I think

Yeah, it seems to be a neat alternative to Lego. I've half considered buying a few for office display purposes. Where's the best place to find the things in the US?

Started building the Black Pearl set last night and got through the first of 2 books. So far it looks really great and has been fun to build but I'm going away for the weekend and will have to wait until Monday to finish it :( Also I ordered the Fire Brigade and the Mini Modular set. The Mini Mod has shipped while the Fire Brigade is out of stock and will ship later. I'm so glad that they don't wait for both to be ready to ship before sending them. Hopefully that will be waiting for me when I get back too. I have gotten 15 (mostly large) sets in just the past 3 months so maybe it's time for a little break for a while...

The only modulars I own are the mini ones, and I plan on keeping it that way :p

No. Submit! Join us in our modular cult! :)

But if you don't want to start an addiction, avoid the modulars. Me? Love my addiction now.
(feverishly checks FedEx tracking to see if they delivered my Town Hall yet)

Haha yeah I think they're pretty rad but just based on my own available space and the overall cost I don't feel like going down that road at the moment.

For the time being I'm content with Star Wars, Castle/Kingdom and other random (cheaper) sets :)

Strangely, space concerns are why I went with modulars. They all take up the same footprint, so I could easily spread them around different places in the apartment. Sure, having them all lined up is cool, but it will be easy to find space for a set that only takes up one baseplate. Hell, the Millenium Falcon has a larger footprint than a modular. And it is the same price but has about 1000 less pieces.
Right now the set taking up the most space is my Imperial Shuttle, but that will change when Tower Bridge arrives next week.

Hello Lego people. My fiancé is working all weekend and it's going to be a rainy one and I want something to occupy my time. I was thinking of getting the Diagon Alley set but do you think another modular would be better? Something like the Grand Emporium? We were at the Lego store last weekend and she seemed to like that one so displaying it would be a little easier. :) Thanks for any input!

Grand Emporium or Fire Brigade for sure. Unless you're more of a die hard Harry Potter fan (looks at user name...) - Diagon Alley is a cool set, but I prefer the full scale modulars myself. :)

I am going to join when this puppy hits the shelves...

10228 Haunted House

I want this soooo bad. I hope it's the next set revealed.

It also seems to indicate Lego may try to wet the new modular appetite more than once a year, which would be rad.

Great choices; you can't go wrong with any of those picks! And Diagon Alley is really pretty cool. My favorite HP set.

I bought a few Nanoblock sets off Amazon Prime. Spent $45 for 3 sets, so I'll report back early next week with what I think about them. I'm thinking they'll make excellent office displays (I bought them for that reason in particular)!

I'm so bringing my X-wing to my classroom.

You can see the minifig that I got in the GAF Secret Santa this year guarding Brandenburg Gate, haha. :)

Those sets fit great with the desk there, looks top!

I just got home from Uni for easter so I'm heading straight up into the attic to see what's left up there that my mum didn't sell.

Does this help?

I have no idea how would that even work. On the side where they're supposed to join together, x1980 panel has 5 pins, and the 64683 has just 3 pins.

It would probably need to be 64682 instead of 64683, as that one has 5 pins too. But then, the whole construct would look too big, compared to what's on sarigar picture, I think. Also x1980 does not even exist in white color :\

The construct on the picture does look the same though.

Oh man, what a score, found a whole bunch. Swear my mum's either donated or sold the medievil stuff but there's a treasure trove of awesome sets up there:

3 Pod Racer Set
Full set of the original Alpha Team sets
Mindworks R2D2
Technic Battle Droid
LEGO Studio (Still with the camera)
Snow base (set name/number I forgot, no box but still one of my favourites)
Police Station

Now if you'll excuse me, I have pod racers to assemble!

civil engineer, working at HDR?

I like to guess. Plus would love to work at HDR

Civil/Structural working at a company called Phoenix Fabricators. I design composite (concrete + steel) water tanks. It's pretty awesome, not gonna lie. :)

E: My profession is exactly why I dig the buildings/bridges of Lego, ha. Very little else really and truly appeals to me.
