It looks nice, but it would be a $400 set. I think the most expensive set they've made for the Prequel Trilogy is the Darth Maul Bust at $150:

The Grand Emporium took about 6.5 hours to build. It is now the best Lego set I own. I'll be building the firehouse next weekend and will have to refrain from just buying the other 2 modulars immediately after. Instead I may and try and turn my kid's demolished Oliva sets into an ice cream/candy shop. The colors seem like a nice fit for that type of building.

So, after driving 1400 miles in three days, I am back home and exhausted. But what was the first thing I did? Open up the Death Star. Four smaller boxes within the big box (sorry, Dr. Forrester, I will not be mixing them), and a comically huge instruction manual.

I just drove 13 hours straight, but I am starting this beast tonight!

I am too tired to mix them, but too impatient to wait to start building. Doing it by box and bags makes it easier to clean up so kitties dont mess with things.

Right now I am just trying to filter out all the mini figure pieces. So many figures...so many...

You find all the character parts as you mix the bags.

Check out the farewell cake my gf got on her last day on the job.

Tasted pretty weird. We ate most of him & kept the head, bagging it & putting it in the freezer lol.

I think shipping wrecks the price. I would of been happy with the $35 or what ever its normal price is before shipping.

I think one of the big gripes was regarding the fact that all the pieces were small. When you look at a set like Death Star or Super Star Destroyer, the ppp something like $0.07-0.10/piece. But that includes minifigs, large/rare pieces, etc. Minecraft is an ok ppp, but it lacks anything noteworthy to have a ppp similar to most every other System or Technic set.

SSD still hurts on the PPB. 12.690c a brick.

Death Star is a better deal and more acceptable at least. 10.518c a brick.

But I will agree that both make up for it with larger pieces and rare ones as well. And with Death Star, especially in mini figs.

Also, it's displayability. The thing is just beast. When we have parties, all of our guests take it down and play with it. It's so damn cool.

This makes me want to pull my hair out and curl up in the fetal position. No one touches my Lego; not my girlfriend, not my family - no one. It's one of the few things I'm very OCD about.

Ah ok - I pulled those numbers out of my ass while posting that from my phone haha. But I'm glad it still made sense what I was after!

Progress update for Bane's vest for 3D Printing, I want to try and round off the edges a bit like the the bottom half of the back, and bulge out the chest\front a bit.

It will be printed in one flat colour, the darker areas on the vest are parts I'd likely paint.

As I have being making Lego's with my 2 year old son who is obsessed, this is really lovely but so upsetting.

I just read that thread on Reddit. Absolutely fucking heartbreaking.

On May 4th, 2009 was our last day with our precious boy. He spend the day doing everything he loved. Mitchell and Cole started the morning off digging outside for treasure. Then the playground for awhile. We went to storytime at the Heritage Center. He loved the popcorn they would always give to him. We went home and had lunch togther on the porch. He wanted a ham and cheese sandwich, grapes, doritos, but best of all he wanted to eat all of his dad's chocolate covered gummy bears. Him and Mitchell giggled as they ate them. They thought how funny it would be when dad came home and the would be gone. After lunch, they played Tony Hawk for awhile and then we read. We went back outside after picking Meily up from school. The kids were having the time of their lifes with their friends. Cole, Mitchell and Cameron were trying to climb the tree. Coco made it. He was so excited to make it up the tree. It was the first time he had been able to climb it. He did it several times. Daddy came home and Cole yelled for dad to come and see him. He was up high in the tree. Matt teased with him for a few minutes and Cole jumped into his Dad's arms. Coco and Mitchy then went to retrieve their scooters from the playground area. A few minutes later our angel took his "One last ride on his Scooter". Tradically he was run over by a young girl as he was riding his scooter on the sidewalk. We are blessed that he went from his daddy's arms right to Heavenly Father's arm almost instantly. Our baby didn't have to suffer for long. We all miss him more than words can say. He was our sweetest little guy, Mommy's biggest helper, and Daddy's big boy. Mommy misses his thumb's up everyday. Coco was our little peacemaker. He loved everyone he knew. He always gave hugs and kisses when we had to tell someone good-bye.

Ok, I need to stop thinking about that horrible story.

I had no idea this was a thing! Does anybody know when these things usually go on sale, and what outlets carry them?

Autumn at a guess. October would be a safe bet.

Also some Lego research showed me that the Belville Advert calendar from many years back was home to some rare and exclusive pieces. So give the Friends calendar some thought.

Also, it's displayability. The thing is just beast. When we have parties, all of our guests take it down and play with it. It's so damn cool.

See, I want the SSD for the displayability. I was so glad to finally see a constructed one when I was at the Lego store. I was debating between the SSD and the Death Star, but the age of the Death Star is what pushed me to it, and the ppb. Well, and the insane amount of minifigs that came with it. I think that is the thing I was a complete sucker for. The SSD just looks so fucking intimidating when together. It is just so massive. Definitely a "man set."

However, now that I am partway done with the Death Star, my wife is getting excited about it. The sets with all the little flourishes and play areas she finds really fun and neat to display.

I still havent figured out where to put the Death Star once I am finished with it. The area I thought it would fit is actually a few inches too small to hold it. I might have to take down the Imperial Shuttle and tear it down. :( Well, I have time.

Now onto more Death Star building!

SIDE NOTE: When visiting my parents on this road trip, I searched and searched for that last bin of old 80s Lego sets I am missing, and they are GONE. My nephew never took it, my mother could not find the bin. The only explanation is that when she moved about ten years ago or so, the box got lost in the move. :( So all my M-Tron and Pirate stuff is gone forever. I still have the instructions and some boxes, but the bricks are gone somewhere else. Sad day indeed.

Has any of you come across a manual like this?

DSC07772.jpg

This is from the Fire Brigade and in several pages the number was missing for some pieces. Are your manuals for this set like this?

Maybe this is the next step for making things more challenging/for building to last longer: Not only all bags must be mixed, but we are hiding the # of pieces as well! P

What page is that? I'm putting mine together now and I'm curious if my manual's the same.

well I don't really know how reliable they are but you can order this here (germany)

(release 1. october) the text says that this calendar will be extremely limited

I think that set has been canceled, unfortunately. Little blurb about it HERE.

The Advent Calendars come out 1st September. Same time every year.

Or wait till January and LEGO Store has them 50% off. :P

Thanks for all of the info folks. I hope that the Friends Advent Calendar does make it out-I know my older daughter would love it.

It would also make it a lot easier to justify the purchase of a SW Advent Calendar for my grown-ass self.

This makes me want to pull my hair out and curl up in the fetal position. No one touches my Lego; not my girlfriend, not my family - no one. It's one of the few things I'm very OCD about.
I had a moment of realization last Monday, when I came into work and found some of my LEGO sets in disarray.

I keep the Log Cabin, Lighthouse, LEGO Truck, and various mini-figs displayed on a short filing cabinet next to my desk. Monday morning I found them moved/scattered about, obviously played with. But I had no idea who had done it; any adults would have been more careful to keep things in order.

Turns out, a coworker's daughters (I think 4 and 6) had discovered them while I was away Friday afternoon. From the looks of it, the girls had a pretty good time playing with everything. But as their mom told me later, the girls lamented that I had no girl mini-figs, lol. (The only one I have in that display is the Statue of Liberty.)

Fortunately, nothing was broken and no pieces were missing. It took me a bit of time to put it all back in order for display purposes, but I just took it as an opportunity to play with my LEGO at work. =)

As a result, I considered moving them, possibly to a higher shelf (like I do with my Star Wars LEGO), but I realized that as long as nothing is broken/missing, I don't mind if people (kids, especially) play with these particular sets. In fact, I like to have them played with, anything to encourage the popularity of LEGO. And so, I keep them where they are.

It's a different story with my Star Wars ships, though, since they are a bit more complex/fragile. I'd hesitate to have them played with by young, strange hands. But playsets like the Hoth base are generally fair game.

The SSD is the real display piece, but one thing the Death Star is really great at is as a minifig showcase. With all the different scenes in the set, you can use it to show off your latest Death Star Trooper revision, for example.

I had the same in my FB book

I wish Lego would do what nanoblocks and character do with their instructions - the bricks for the current step are printed normally, but the bricks from the previous steps are faded out slightly, so its easier to see what has changed.

Usually its ok, and you at least have the correct number of pieces so you know what to look for, but it can be a 'wheres wally' sometimes. Sopwith Camel was a bit like that, with the huge model meaning pieces were printed small.

Are those the Advent Calendars this year - Star Wars, City, and Friends? Boo, hiss. I wasn't particularly crazy about the Kingdoms one - no really unique items - but the Castle and Pirates calendars are sweet. I was hoping maybe for a Lord of the Rings one, but I guess it's too soon. It would go perfectly with the first Hobbit movie hitting this holiday, though. :'(

Looks like no stop at the LEGO store in Philadelphia for me. I just snagged my most coveted set, the Skeleton Ship Attack Castle set (7029). It set me back a rather pretty penny. I can understand why the Castle sets are so damn expensive now, because they're so DAMN awesome, but I can't understand it, because they're still pretty plentiful in secondhand circulation. It's nuts. Even more ridiculous is the amount some people are asking for Kingdoms stuff. Thank goodness I managed to snag all of those. I wouldn't mind having a couple more Outpost Attacks for MOCs, but I can just PAB or BrickLink all the necessary bricks for those, if I get to that point. Still saving up for my Imperial Flagship. Now, the Troll Warship becomes my most wanted Castle set.
