A nice banner pic from the upcoming LEGO LotR game:

Just a quick snap:

I can't believe I'm the first to post such a pic!

This is the fellowship neatly arranged:

And this is today's haul, 9473 - Mines of Moria and 9472 - Attack on Weathertop:

Together with 9470 - Shelob attacks and 9469 - Gandalf arrives, these sets have the complete fellowship. Pretty pricey for 9 minifigs, but I managed to snag Mines of Moria for 50 € instead of 80 :D

Box weight was 22 lbs according to the Amazon slip.

Wow.

Also, sad about box damage :(

Congrats! That's the only reason sometimes I'm hesitant about Amazon is I'm super anal about my boxes. Honestly though most of the time in the LEGO store the SSD boxes are pretty jacked up as well.

I had the guy bring 3 boxes out before I was satisfied at the store.

Mine were in immaculate condition before I was robbed and guy threw all boxes to the ground going through my closet. :/

Box damage is how I got mine for 350. I wasn't all that concerned about it. I will keep the box but for the discount price i loved it.

Sorry people who were looking at the Fire Brigade yesterday, Ive been waiting for one to show up and snapped it up. It'll be here Tuesday :P Oh no, what have I done? Must...buy...more... Hah.

I actually picked up Uruk-hai Army and the polybag with Frodo and the fire when I was out, plus two Series 6 minifigs, where I got Classic Alien (which I wanted) and Flamenco Dancer (I forgot about her and thought I felt a Robot).

You never apologize for snapping up a deal! :P It was fair game, haha. Congrats on the excellent buy!

How long do you guys think I've got before the death star goes OOP?

not sure. I bought one two years ago and it was listed as rare on Lego's site at the time. It should've been done by now but isn't. It's getting there. My local Lego store has had a beat up boxed one for a long time now but has no more in stock exceotf or that ine.

It's been around for a while...That's a tough one. Like moop2000 said, it should not be here anymore. I think the success of the Star Wars line (and likely that model) is why it's still being produced.

Don't apologize! I was humming and hawing about having it shipped to my US office but I'm glad someone here got it.

Last time I asked the manager at the LEGO store about it he was very surprised it was still around. I think it came out in 2008, which is a very long time for a LEGO set to be in print. I'm guessing by the end of the year it will be gone. It's probably not wise to have too many large UCS sets all competing with each other for attention and shelf space.

Thanks guys. Guess I know where most of my first student loan payment will be going :P

You say this...I still don't understand why, haha. Is it the playability that gets you?
Partially. It was just a really, really cool build overall, but the little flourishes as you build it made it stand out. Funny that I don't play with it, but change what the mini figs do in it every few weeks. I have said it many times in this thread, but I was totally against the set until I built it. Now it is the king of builds. It is also a big attention getter when people come over. They notice it a lot faster and look at it more than the Imperial Shuttle and modulars.

And I am assuming the SSD is the same way, but dat instruction binder. It isn't a manual. It is HUGE!

Every time PhoncipleBone posts about the Death Star I get a little closer to shelving my entire wish list until I can afford it :P
The fact that it is well past retirement is what made me get it before the SSD. I didn't want to regret it years later.

Perhaps some more pictures this weekend will help sway people. Been contemplating doing a time lapse build of it too.

If I magically come across another $100 Amazon credit or see a warehouse deal, I'll probably grab it for the sake of having it.

The Limited Edition one? If so, meh. It'sa got some great minifigs but is sort of mediocre

I have the 2 15 dollar show sets (rebel and storm trooper ground troops). Was thinking of getting it and the wampa set. But if it's mediocre maybe I will splurge and get R2 today. Either that, or I am just going to pick up the new mini ship and planet sets.

Anyone have the Hoth set? I am thinking of picking it up today.
Echo Base 7879? I have it and it has some neat parts but overall it was disappointing. Not very fun to build, lots of fragile stuff, and it crams disjointed scenes together. Would be fun for kids.

I liked the healing chamber with Luke and the hospital bed. Also good assortment of minifigs.

I love the Hoth scenes though, so I would buy again, since I got it on sale. My plan is to one day have enough white pieces to make a decent MOC and use parts of this set for detail.

I have all the sets you described but the Hoth Echo Base was my last set. My plan was to make a little Hoth Battle on my desk at work. I don't have a ton of room so the 2 battle packs and the Wampa set did the job of what I wanted. I need to get some of the figs from the Echo Base to make my battle more detailed, I just havent yet. I'd say get the Wampa set and if you really want some of the figures get Echo base too. I think you would probably be happy with just the Wampa cave. Just my 2 cents :)

Man, I really waffled on this as I've packed up a good deal of my Star Wars Lego sets as I was running out of room to display and I really thought I'd transfer over to LoTR but I finally caved and got these two. AT least it was on $50 out of pocket thanks to a rebate gift card I had been hoarding for awhile now. I couldn;t stomach the thought of passing on these and then having teh Rancor Pit come out and the rumored new Sail Barge. Gonna build 'em right now.

The attaching Jabba's Palace and Rancor Pit sets are what convinced me I need to jump into the Star Wars scene in the first place. That whole series looks great...I've heard good things about the palace build, too. Let us know how it goes! :) It's a ways off for me, so I'd love to hear your impressions of the build.

I think it'll be cute to build Olivia House + other Friends sets into 1 modular set; and do the same with LOTR sets, Jabba's Palace, Haunted Mansion + Vampyre Castle. Having everything in the modular format would make for an interesting display I think.

Man, I am looking to buy the Lego 8275 Motorized Bulldozer, but it is out of production and the price is jacked up to 500-600 when looking around online. Anyone got any idea on where I can get it cheaper? Or should I just bite the bullet on this one?

mrklaw in this thread was selling one for about $250 shipped which is an excellent price for the bulldozer. (It might be even cheaper if you are in Europe). Send him a PM.

Ordered an Ultimate Building Set for my wife, along with the mini Naboo Starfighter and another Urak-Hai Army (From Warehouse deals, 24.55 so at least it was a bit cheaper). Figure Ill need all the wall I can get for Helms Deep :)

Man, here at Star Wars Celebration this one booth is basically nothing but old oop star wars Lego sets new in boxes. The prices are ridiculous though, 2k for the 10030 ISD.
