Yeah, I have built both shuttle and SSD. I <3 star wars lego.

About the SSD: next tax return...

It will be mine. Oh, yes! It will be mine.

I feel like I've been neglecting my LEGO since Guild Wars 2.

Well no, I have - but that will change now that I have my 10% off coupon!

That reminds me: I asked before if anyone had a 10% coupon they weren't using. And what the expiration was. Anyone willing to help a brother out if it expires in October?

In my Legoland, Deadpool is the only person who wears tights. There can be other super-powered characters, but none who wear tights.

I haven't read a comic with Deadpool in it since the mid-90s, but I like how the minifig includes printed-on pouches. It lets you know who created the character. They should have included a cloud of smoke around his feet.

There should have been a cloud of smoke instead of feet.

Edit: derp, I just realized thatsthejoke.jpg

That is an understatement. You don't realize how massive it is until it is too late. You can look at the measurements all day long and think: "that is not that bad." Then you finish the body and the cockpit and think: "this is getting a bit large."

Then you start the top fin, and the sheer size of the set starts to sink in.

Well... I did think about places to display it, but as the build went along, all the options vanished one after another.
But to build it was really great. I powered through it in one sitting, but I always do that. It was the greatest, most rewarding building experience I've had so far.

One thing I hope LEGO makes one day is a remote controlled minifig-scale car chassis/motor. In the meantime I'm trying to find a small r/c car which I can modify with a LEGO body.

That Imperial Shuttle is really a fantastic looking ship...I wish I would have jumped on it with everyone else a few months back. Maybe I'll find a good deal eventually, haha.

Knowing it expires this month makes it easier. Thank you. :)

Just gotta wait another week until I have the money for Haunted House. Cant wait for double VIP on that one.

Yeah, interesting dates on the coupon. They made sure it skipped the opening weekend of the Haunted House and that it didn't touch Double VIP October.

I just really hope I can use it on the special S@H set #5001308 (SW:TOR Collection) in the retail store. Then I'll save $13 and get 269 VIP points! If not, Attack on Weathertop it is.

Too big, I'm thinking of vehicles which can fit a minifigure and you can put in a city setting.

There's nothing for that size other than pullback motors and the cars from the Multi-Challenge Track (those are powered cars, but can only go forward).

Below is a pic of someone fitting a LEGO car body over a HO-scale slot car, which is also a neat idea.

Cool idea in those slot cars. I bet you could look into those mini Japanese remote control cars and adapt them in the same way.

I don't get why they screw you over by not giving you a 10% off code. It doesn't seem very fair, haha.
Closest store is 78 or so miles away is why. I talked about doing a trip to it in October for double VIP, but looking at it all I can afford until new year is Haunted House, and free shipping saves me more than extra VIP.

First floor of the Haunted House done. Pretty fun build so far, even if the windows can be a little repetitive and some of the wall building, but overall it's great.

I've never built anything this size before and I'm having a lot of fun. Makes me want to seriously think about buying a modular or two, but that's a slippery slope.

The Winter Cottage may have to suffice.

Just found out that there is a Lego store in Nashville TN. Guess where I have to go for a business trip in October? That's right. Nashville!!! Considering the closest Lego store to me currently is like 3 hours drive this will be my first Lego store experience. And since it is October I will get double points on all the purchases yes? This may be dangerous since I won't have my wife to supervise me....hehe. Guess who is loading up on christmas presents...THIS GUY. Grand Emporium, Xwing, Tie Fighter, Imperial Shuttle? OMG im going to spend to much money....Series 8 minifigs....Winter Village....Haunted House....This is going to be bad....

Sweet! My Haunted House is in the process of shipping. Can't wait to get it! Also ordered 10 packs of the Series 8 minifigs.

My Haunted House arrived today along with the Halloween Set and Zombie Car. Cannot freakin wait to start building them!

And yeah, I started with the Fire Brigade set, and now I want to get all of the modulars. Really hope my funds will allow me to pick up some more Lego sets come October as I'll be in Nashville.

Yeah, that proximity thing is silly. But giving you no incentives at all is lame.

That being said, I have a few big purchases to make. I need to rank them in order of "buy now because it's going OOP" to "you have some time" (prices included so I can help weigh this).

- Death Star - $400
- Tower Bridge - $240
- Grand Emporium - $150
- Minecraft (I really just want all those little pieces...) - $35
- Diagon Alley - $150
- Imperial Shuttle (not sure if OOP, but it's a low priority) - ???

All of these sets give me some nice options for MOC buildings and microscale fun. Double VIP will probably go to Death Star. GE and TB pop up on Warehouse Deals once in a while, I just need to bite when it's a good deal. Diagon Alley is one of those sets that I have NO interest in outside of the sweet collection of pieces (I could wait it out and see if they do a liquidation sale on this one). Imperial Shuttle looks sweet and has some staying power, but it's not a "must have" on that list.

There are some Creator houses I wouldn't mind grabbing, but those are sets I can pick up in slower purchase months/when I have OTHER spare cash, ha. These are the ones I can think of that are closer to going OOP. Thoughts/suggestions/help?

Death Star is priority due to age. Imperial Shuttle is probably not long for this world either. Tower Bridge is a must of course, if just for the MOC pieces.

I am in the same boat with Diagon Alley though. I have minimal interest in the set, but the fact that it will disappear soon and has an amazing assortment of pieces has me interested.

The new sets look so awesome, especially the Monsters one.

I feel like a kid again, but let's see if I can convince my wife to buy them for...cough...my 4 year old.

Imperial Shuttle is at $210 on Amazon warehouse right now (packaging damaged). I think that is a larger discount than double VIP points.

Got the DJ and the Bat out of season 8.

Picked up the creator for the Gaf contest and the Halloween set.

Almost pulled the trigger on the Star Wars Advent calender but I know there would be no way I could wait that long before opening it.

lucked out completely. Last weekend I grabbed 10 blind bags of series 8 and got 10/10 new figures (My first stab at this series). Girlfriend got me an additional 4, 4/4 new figures. Grabbed 3 more this past weekend and got double Pirate and Alien. Tried one more time during lunch just now and scored the final figure I needed (Santa).

Great series!

Damn. I didn't even know about those "fantasy era" Castle sets with the trolls. AMAZING.

And very much over MSRP at this point :(

Which is giving me pause in going after it. The downside is that we probably won't see something like it again until LotR/Hobbit has finished its run.

The LEGO Vikings sets are in the same "boat". heh

YzrSD.jpg

The one theme that I would like to go back and get is the 2009 Pirates run, which is more feasible, since the prices are still within reason, and I already have the crown jewel of that theme (the Imperial Flagship).

Otherwise I am just going to keep facing forward for the many awesome themes to come!

The amount of times I have *almost* pulled the trigger on Diagon Alley. I've got no interest in the HP theme, but the buildings themselves (and the peices that make them) are tempting.

Sold my Tower Bridge BTW - I would have sold it to a GAF'er, but I had a buyer that was willing to give me more than I paid for it.

Am also considering going back to just OT Star Wars sets, and dumping my prequel stuff. Keeping up with the entire SW line is a big commitment, when I would rather delve into other themes, such as the upcoming Polar Explorers.

Exactly. There are plenty of sets that are actually in print that I want to spend my money on.

Was there a new Monster Fighters set announced?

You and me both, brother! October is going to be a hell of a month.

That said, it's excruciating reading about the haunted house. I want it so bad. If I hadn't decided to wait and get the death star it would be in my hands today.

I second the boy who lived. Diagon Alley is an incredible set. It was probably my favorite build so far. Not much "play" to it but it's fun to put together, the buildings look great, and oh, the MOC potential! Get it man.

The OT Star Wars stuff is about the only ones that interest me. I only picked up the Republic Frigate for parts and it was on sale. But the OT stuff is still fun, but I wont be getting the entire line.

And as for Diagon Alley, it tempts me each time I see it. It tempts me. So many great pieces for mocs, and in a variety of cool colors to boot.

Oddly enough, I'm not in a hurry to grab new sets since I know they have a shelf life of at least a year. It's always when things start to creep up to the end of their life cycle that shit gets real. D:

If I can help persuade you and/or ghostmind to buy this set, even if my contribution is very small, it will feel like justice on a cosmic scale

Get Diagon Alley! I can't sing its praises enough.

I am looking forward to the day I am all caught up, ha ha

(Wishful thinking, I know, I know)

I flip flop on it. I want the new stuff so bad, but then when it gets time to pull the trigger I get rational and think about what is older and will disappear soon.

The fact that Nicoga is close to actually getting the Death Star or Imperial Shuttle means we are all winning the battle!

To the first part - that's how I've kept myself from buying a lot of sets. The Town Hall LOOKED cool when it came out, but I knew I had a while.

The second part - I still hate you a little inside. Just a little.

You wont once you get the Death Star and Imperial Shuttle. :)

I just hate you for having the SSD. I keep telling myself I should get that instead of two big sets soon. But getting a couple of $150-$200 sets is easier to explain to the wife than one massive $400 set.

Here are some terrible pictures of my favorite features of Diagon Alley. Sorry about the cat hair, flash glare, blur and whatnot...it's still in the "building zone," and I can only find my crappy old camera. Haven't figured out where or how I want to display it yet.

hexqNl.jpg

Ollivander's is my favorite building. The build was good, though the windows did get repetitive. The interior is far and away the most interesting of the three...

CBGlKl.jpg

...and the exterior is no slouch, either. For appearance and play, Ollivander's is king.

dvHKjl.jpg

The Borgin & Burkes roof. This building was probably the most fun to put together thanks to its unusual, asymmetrical design. All three builds are very different. The variety is a refreshing change from the monotony that can sometimes creep into larger sets.

cgjuyl.jpg

Gringott's roof...in general Gringott's looks nice in both the open and closed position, though I prefer the latter because the roof is so great (open probably matches the other two better for display, though). Gringott's reminds me a great deal of early 20th-century American architecture, which I am quite fond of. Probably the best MOC set due to all the interesting white pieces, but there's a lot of potential in all three buildings.

That's it! Now you guys know why I never share pictures. :P

I don't care for Harry Potter at all, but those buildings kick some designing ass. :)

And that is what intrigues me. And lots of little detail pieces to use later. Urgh. How long does that set have before it goes away? It is a year old now, but with the HP license gone I think it is out of here much sooner.
