It's easy to move if you remember to grab it by around the stands since that is where the magnets connect to the panels, so it's very sturdy. But yea if you grab it at the wrong spots on the bottom.... smash
That is until the magnets inevitably weaken :(
(or in my case I had the rear part of the frame bend so the rear magnets don't latch properly)

First modular?

I'm ready, P. I'm ready!

Another Y-Wing convert! YAY!

It really is an underrated set. Don't let the lower piece count fool you. They maximize the detail with very little pieces.

Agreed! I built the X-Wing, Y-Wing and TIE fighter pretty much in a row and the Y-Wing was definitely the most fun. It's amazing how simple it is. I remember when I was done thinking "Wait, that's it, I can't possibly be... oh yeah."

X-Wing was the coolest build, mainly because of the nose.

TIE Fighter is the most basic build of them all, but the best looking when done.

The Y-Wing is the most cleverly designed one for the little details they pack into it, but I would put it below the X-Wing for building fun. However, I don't think you can fully appreciate what makes the Y-Wing so cool until you build it yourself; but you can appreciate the X-Wing and especially TIE Fighter just by looking at the completed model.

I've always had a huge soft spot for the X-Wing; I love the design of that ship more than any in sci-fi. So it's the best looking to me :-)

BTW, saw the Death Star at an airport gift shop. Thank god it was hideously overpriced; I was close to buying it on sight.

Hey now, there aren't any Grand Emporiums on Amazon Warehouse.

Well, not after I bought it. I hate you guys.

Edit: So how is the LEGO Store in Downtown Disney in Orlando? Ill be there next week...

Big and nice. HUGE PAB wall. That is where I snagged my Death Star while on vacation this summer. Lots of cool sculptures outside as well. The best being the Malificent dragon.

So basically, My wallet and I are screwed? Hah. Ive been to the one in NYC before, which was neat.

The store is circular, which is kinda cool. And lots of sets on display under glass. But the sheer size and layout of the store makes it hard to see everything, especially since it was so busy.

I do need to go to the NYC one. But that is a day trip for me. Still steeling myself for the 90 minute drive to MA I plan in October to that Lego store. THe closest one for me.

Has anyone been to the Lego store in Nashville? Wondering how the selection will be when I go in October.

I don't know, I loved the snoring old man sitting on the bench. But yes the dragon was awesome too. SSD ships today and should be here Friday, just in time for my day off!

I have. First time for a LEGO store, and hope to go back in October as well. I can't comment on how it was, because I had nothing to compare it to. I loved it though. Felt like a little kid when I bought the Fire Brigade set and registered for their VIP program.

And this just arrived at my house. Talked the wife into winter collections.

Well done!

I love how WV has become the LEGO gateway drug for couples. Who wants little resin Christmas houses, when you can build them out of LEGO!

Regarding the Chima images, TLG has been asking sites to remove any links to them, since they are labelled as "Confidential". I've removed my post regarding them for the moment, but I'm not sure, as a community, how we want to address this, as typically there are a lot of leaked production photos before official ones come along.

Damn, those WV sets are sweet. I think I could talk my wife into those. They would make great display pieces on our piano.

Throw on some fake snow, some Advent Calendar pieces, and baby, you got a scene goin'!

So, if you are Christopha (intentional spelling), does that make me Paulie Walnuts?

http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/166/ptonygr7.jpg[IMG]

I am fine with that. I could use Paulie pictures and language to coerce others into buying sets.

Just as long as we don't take a trip to South Jersey and get lost in the woods...
Aw, I shoulda stuck with 'T,' but it just didn't look right. No, if we have a Paulie it's nicoga, and if we have a Sil, it's ghostmind. But if there is a devious criminal mastermind gently guiding hapless gaffers onto a path of addiction and bankruptcy, it's PhoncipleBone.

ANYWAY

I agree that Ghostmind would be Silvio. The man with all the information, and counsels us all on what to get.

Was this ever released by Lego, or are they MOCs inspird by classic space? That middle ship is beautiful

To me they look like MOCs. MOCs that are more modern but made in spirit of classic space sets.
Lego needs to restart space sets based on those MOCs, so cool.

Definitely MOCs. This sounds bad, but you can tell by the overly complicated design in some areas. Things that could be achieved cleaner and easier with fewer pieces. I love the idea they were going for though. Just needs some refinement.

Nah, I don't think that sounds bad. It's just the nature of MOCs that artistry trumps efficiency, for one, and for another, hardly anyone on Earth gazes at their MOC wondering how they can achieve the same effect by starting over with fewer pieces...those are the select few who go on to work at LEGO, I think :P

Aww, that's sad to hear. Well thanks...I think I will hold off on for one with a better build then. :D

I loved the build on all of them. Fire Brigade is the better build, but I prefer the way GE looks when done. I would say all three are at least a 9 in terms of builds. Fire Brigade being a 9.7 and GE a 9.5 or so. Not as good, but still fantastic. The weakest build of all current modulars is still Town Hall though. Fantastic looking, but the three floors are just okay builds. The roof is genius though.

Yeah, i can see the overcomplicated desing. That big ship, it doesn't have studs on the gray wing-like structure, it seems to be using some sort... SNOT?-system.

It was interesting how Lego blog post about Cuusoo noted that a design can be too good for Cuusoo, by using too many advanced building methods and the like.

I find a lot of those advanced building techniques really, really cool most of the time. But a lot of the time it just seems to be complicated just for the sake of being complicated. I love detail in sets and all, but I find it much more impressive to get a lot of detail out of using less pieces. All about efficiency.

Why do i have a feeling you like mini-scale stuff?

...
Space legos.
Mini scale.
Mini space base... Dammit, now i want to build stuff.

Mini scale is cool, but I LOVE the huge sets. I guess it is the sheer size of them.

Ah.
Really would love to build with Legos again but i can't afford new ones, not to mention i have no space for them.
Not that i really need new ones for custom stuff, i have a few boxes of legos... Lacking newer parts though. Wonder how many now-rare parts i have.
So many ideas...

If you want some cool sets to build that don't take up too much space, I (and many others) would highly recommend the newer Star Wars ships from this year. Between $50-60 each and good display pieces. Also really fun builds and get you a good assortment of newer parts and newer building techniques.

Cmon, the X-Wing comes with Porkins!

I don't like the new X-Wing. Rubber bands... ugh... Also, too short compared to wing-span. And Artoo sits wrong way. The Y-Wing has underdetailled bottom and the droid is sideways. And the TIE... well, next paragraph.

And when i said i don't have space, i mean it. Every free surface here is in use. Bookshelves are full and no more space for more bookshelves. Which is why my legos sit in stacked boxes, in pieces.

Besides, once i buy one lego set, i cannot stop.

Still i wish i had enough space i could take out the old legos and build something from them. A mini city or something.

EDIT i actually unsubbed from this thread earlier. Too tempting.

You could do the little Galaxy sets, or whatever they're called. Ten bucks a pop and there are half a dozen varieties out there now. Not much to the builds, but they make for gorgeous display pieces for a desk or something.

So, I just bought my first modular las week (Firebrigade) and now GE is being phased out?

Do you guys think it'll be still available in a couple of months?

Well i don't have any free desk space. I'm being serious. It is kinda of a issue. Cleaning and rearranging things would help....

Never actually liked the mini-Star Wars sets. The proportions are always off.

I'll just have to wait till i can move and then see about starting lego building career anew. Maybe.

In a couple months, I would say yes.

By the end of the year, or more specifically after Black Friday, I would be less confident.

Look on the bright side: once you catch up on the in print buildings, you only have to get one a year after that. I only got Fire Brigade back in March and have gone nuts ordering all the other buildings, having just gotten the last in print modular last month. It is a huge relief to not have the impending OOP status hanging over my head.

Only two sets with OOP stress for me right now are Diagon Alley and SSD.

Since this is the first year I've really bought LEGO (my mom did the buying when I was a kid), I am curious about this; does LEGO do any kind of sale for Black Friday? Specifically online, since the closest LEGO store is 200+ miles away.

I know, I just moved into the US for a couple of years (my wife is doing a MsSc) and I'm trying to catchup on all the awesome sets. I just need to be careful with the money, at least for now, I was hoping it could wait a couple of months.

Just so everyone knows the Zombie Chauffer got pulled from shelves at TRU in Hamilton by the Lego reps til Oct 13 if you're having trouble finding it (I run the Lego dept at TRU if anyone has questions). If anyone wants me to pick you up one just PM me for cost+shipping

You've perfectly summarized why I bought FB a few weeks ago.

Is...is your thumb ok?
