Finally got all my orders in and put this guy together.

He is effectively as tall as the Tower Bridge. Really nice sized model. Also, that model is solid brick. No special pieces and almost entirely solid (there's a VERY small hallow core about the size of a golf ball inside).

I can honestly say that this has been my single favorite model I have ever assembled.

Ever.

Erm, between that Tower Bridge and the 100 foot tall dinosaur, anyone else thinking B-movie?

Just read through this thread, some amazing stuff, that temple is great!

Really makes me regret selling all my childhood kits (for mass profit though so not all bad) to get rid of my student overdraft :(

nicoga3000 - would you mind taking a photo of the mini modulars next to Tower Bridge? Wonder how close they are in scale?

How much was it to assemble this guy and do you have a parts list?

Inventory
LEGO Instructions Page

That Peeron.com link gives the parts inventory while the instructions link brings you to the LEGO page. The set is 3724 and the instructions are available on that page. They're also on Peeron, but they're harder to read.

There are two pieces that are hard to obtain in the build. First, the 2x2 green corner brick. It was only available in bulk in this set (and to a much lesser extent some other random set). The 2x8 green brick is also hard to come by, but it can be supplemented by 2~2x4 green bricks.

All in all, I was able to piece this guy out for just over $250 on Bricklink. He retails at ~$350 in the USA. I didn't do too much value shopping, I just bought the pieces in the fewest number of orders I could manage (7 I think). I was lucky to find a shop in Norway with bulk 2x2 green corner bricks for sale (it just cost a small chunk for shipping).

@mrklaw I'll get a picture of the Minis over lunch today definitely. Off the top of my head, I can say each one is about as tall as the VW Bus, so I'll get the pic next to that as well.

@oracrest LOVE the temple! Very clean and crisp build, and I love the minifigs, too! Great work (make sure to share that over at Eurobricks!).

The Temple is glorious. There's a Roman soldier in the new Minifig bags you could use:

Nice, I bought those 2 sets together myself, I think I preferred the grand emporium out of the two.

I just ordered 6 boxes of the latest series minifigs, I do it every time they come out, sell sets on ebay, pays for a set for myself and then some :)

I think I'll put the profits this time towards the pet store and city hall (last time I got a PS3)

Do you sell the minifigs in the box, unopened singles in bags or opened specific minifigs?

How much does a box even cost?

I'd love info on this too! Havent stopped coming into this thread, I'm happy its so active.

I finally finished up my Temple. My first big LEGO custom ever! I don't think there's any space to add anything more.
That temple easily looks better than just about all of Lego's own architecture series that I've seen, and in its style it would fit well in that series. You really did a great job.

Where can I get plans to build a Starcraft marine? I saw a guy build a Hyperion battle cruiser so give me those plans too
These are positively amazing, but there are no instructions for them. It's fairly rare to get instructions for user made creations. Usually you're left to figure things out, which is doable for smaller models, but for something like this, you're SOL, unless you're a Lego savant.

I really really really want to buy a modular but that price tag is hard to swallow...

Can't tell you how long I have looked at that Pet Shop online and been so close to buying it...

Gonna go out for lunch one day? Stop! Take that $5-10 and put it in an envelope.

Feel like grabbing a bag of chips or a drink or a snack while you're filling up gas? Woah there buddy - put that $1-3 away and hold onto it.

New vidja game or DLC or Steam deal? The games and DLC will be there later - that Steam deal...Go ahead and review that backlog for a moment *waits*. There we go - toss that money in the LEGO envelope!

I know this sounds dumb, but the little shit we do almost daily adds up. I buy myself a new nice set every month (sometimes two if I've done particularly well and not spent any money on myself). If you're into LEGO and digging the newer stuff, it's totally worth it to have that childhood "save up for that new toy" moment.

If it helps, the price per piece seems fairly good value compared to some sets. And they aren't that much more expensive than some of the larger diorama sets from Lego.

I want tower bridge and the imperial shuttle. Each of those is double what the modulars cost!

Need Price now... Just take my money. Seriously. So awesome!!! :)

Temple and dragon are both awesome. Second the request for a brick list and advice if there are any good sets that contribute heavily to the pieces needed.

For the temple, did you start with an Atlantis set or two? You have a ton of columns

Yes, I bought the Atlantis set a while back, around Octoberish? Anyways. I liked how it looked on the box, but was a bit disappointed that it was only a temple facade. So I snagged a second Altlantis set during a Christmas sale, and used the pediment section for this Temple. All the column pieces came from those as well. Most of the rest of it is slowly added to as the LEGO store got more and more loose pieces that I could use.

The Temple is glorious. There's a Roman soldier in the new Minifig bags you could use:

Oh yeah! I bought a few bags from this set over the weekend, and that's where the Minotaur came from. I also got the Statue of Liberty, and the doctor. It's funny to see a LEGO syringe :)

I got these over Christmas, I'm a huge fan of Lego Pirates :D

By years end I'll try having every Lego ship

Next Christmas my girlfriend and I are going to buy each other Lego pirate ships. We even have a place decided to display them already. They are some of my favorite looking modern sets.

can someone outline the main steps to using bricklink.com? I have a wanted list and I'm trying to find shops that have all those pieces. I get a list of shops with unique lots, but when I select 'auto fill min' and 'add to cart' at the bottom of the list, I only seem to get 10 lots added, rather than the whole list (I'm playing with a long list, about 100 lots)

what am I doing wrong?

Pics of the Mini Modulars for your comparative pleasure.

And what's your problems with Bricklink? I can help better, but I'm a bit confused what's going on, haha.

:O Oracrest, wow. Inspiring is all I can say.

Wouldn't mind another pic or two from the front, maybe more of the interior if possible and not too much trouble! Mmmm lego porn

Is Atlantis on its way out? Those columns are sick. I don't see it on ghostmind's future OOP list...

out of curiosity, I uploaded a list of all the parts I need to make the Tower Bridge (about 2700 missing). When I do the search by shop, I can go to a store that has most of the pieces - something like 120 lots, so 12 pages of parts. I press 'auto fill min' and it adds the required number for each piece.

But when I click 'add selected items to cart', instead of adding all 120 lots to the cart, it only adds the 10 lots on the current page. So to add all my pieces I have to manually select each page and click 'add to cart'. Is that right, or should it be able to add everything at once?

Is there something that can help create those Wanted List XMLs for Bricklink?

I loved building them, and am building shelves now to display them on :D You'll enjoy them.

I was using rebrickable.com. Quite neat as you put in the sets/pieces you have (manually or can import from brick set etc). Then you can search for a set and it'll tell you if you can build it. And if not, it'll generate a list of the pieces you're missing and you can then upload that to brick link.

Another cool thing it does is it'll show you sets you can build with the parts you have. if you don't have that many sets, most of the things are quite small models, but its a nice feature to play with.

How much does a box even cost?

I open the boxes and packets, sort them into individual resealable plastic bags and then make sets from those then sell the sets and spares.

I order the boxes from bricklink from a place in Denmark, works out to be about AUD$146 shipped to me in Australia.

I sell them for local RRP including postage for the sets so people can pretty much get an entire set for the same cost as going into a store and trying to find the ones they want and getting duplicates.

I think I may have asked this here in the past but I can't find it. For those who display, how do you deal with the dust? I left some Harry Potter sets out and they got so dusty I just took them apart and boxed them up for now. Do you just deal with it and let it get dusty in those hard to reach places or what?

Anyone know how to cancel an order from the LEGO site? I have the Batcave on order, but I found it at Target today, so I want to cancel it since it hasn't shipped yet. I can't find an option anywhere to cancel a non shipped order. I'd call them, but they close their phone lines at 10pm Eastern time.

During the XMas rush, I was able to cancel an order before it shipped by sending them an email through their site.

Interesting! May have to do that myself over here in the states. Thanks a bunch for the info.

Ok, sorry for the blasphemy...

I'm seriously thinking about glueing the Space Shuttle together. It keeps falling apart, and is kinda loose.

I know that some (most/all?) glues with eat at the plastic. What do you people do in cases like this? Box it back up?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have the 10213 version of the shuttle there is a service pack you can order from LEGO to increase the stability. The fixed version with the added pieces has number 10231.

I would love some of the Roman senator Minifigs, but I haven't gotten any of those yet (from mystery series #3 I think?) I tried to make some tall cypress trees around the gardens with the green pieces I had available. I started with the standard flat grey sheet they sell at the store.

Thank god for the LEGO store having the thick 1x2 tall wall pieces in white, and the flush top white planks. The Gladiators are from mystery series #5. I got pretty good at feeling the bag for the specific Gladiator headpiece, and nailed all 4 in one go ;)

The OOP list I found only covered the "big" sets, and the winter village creator stuff. AFAIK, Atlantis is already OOP, as is Pharaoh's Quest and most of the Castle sets. I wouldn't be surprised to see Alien Conquest and perhaps PotC go out at the end of 2012, as LEGO needs to make shelf-space for the new lines, like Dinos, LotR, Monster Fighters, etc.

thanks! I was happy with how it came out. I'd really love to master the tiny scale buildings and scenes, but this larger one was really fun. the interior isn't anything more than that guy standing in the back. Most of it is hidden when the roof is on, so I didn't "furnish" the interior of the room, outside of what you can see looking into the doorway.

I think the Atlantis set may be OOP. I dont see new stock of it anywhere. It was on sale during the holidays pretty regularly.

Does anyone know if they are discontinuing some of the architecture sets? At the store near me, their big architecture display has been moved to a corner, and it looks like they are toning down. I just want that Robie House before it gets discontinued....

how do you find things out like this? I bought the Shuttle through lego.com - just checked and its 10213. So if there is a service pack, you think they'd email me. Going to contact them now.

Lego.com in the UK still show stock, but reduced from £50 to £40. Wonder if its worth picking up a couple? those column blocks look great.

ah shit!

was going through bricklink, looking for parts for a set. Each time I did a transaction, I moved those items from my wanted list to another wanted list, so my main wanted list only had items I still needed.

I was down to 5 lots, and went into a store to buy two of them. Total cost should have been about £5. But I forgot to select my main wanted list, so it defaulted to 'all wanted items', and I ended up rebuying a bunch of bricks costing £45. Aaargh.

There are some advantages to having small children. I now have an annual pass for Legoland. :D Including 10% off purchases in their shop and the chance to get collectible bricks.
