Looks awesome.

I was so tempted to get Pet Shop while I was in the Lego Store last week :( Decided I don't have the extra cash to get it.....for now.

You know you are gonna buy it though.

My wife saw how much I loved that pet store and said the magic words: I'll buy it for your birthday.

Goddammit April....come soon!

I was using rebrickable.com. Quite neat as you put in the sets/pieces you have (manually or can import from brick set etc). Then you can search for a set and it'll tell you if you can build it. And if not, it'll generate a list of the pieces you're missing and you can then upload that to brick link.
That's pretty great, but the export function is not working for me. The "Export to HTML Table", right? I just get an empty screen, and nothing in the page source.
*edit* I needed to create an account, and now it works.

Where can I get plans to build a Starcraft marine? I saw a guy build a Hyperion battle cruiser so give me those plans too
I found instructions and parts list for this:

http://rebrickable.com/sets/soren/zaku

You can probably use it, change things around a bit, swap all white colors to red, and get something that looks like Starcraft marine.

I broke down and got the 2012 mini modular set last night. I assumed it would be a quicker build because of it's size. Boy was I wrong. 4 hours last night and still need to finish the fifth house. Had a blast, some really neat ideas. The firehouse got a tad tedious though.

Does a single creator design the whole build or different people involved on different buildings do you think?

no, never even noticed that before. Click on 'build this set', and it'll show you which pieces you're missing. Then click 'export this list to brick link' and you'll get a pop up with some XML that you copy and paste into the mass upload on brick link

Yep, I got it now. The only thing I wish it had is to export the complete list, not just pieces I'm missing.

It's kind of funny, I hadn't even realized it, but a lot of my favorite sets from the last couple of years were designed by Jamie Berard. Sounds like he's the lead designer on the modulars, but he's created some other cool sets as well. One talented dude.

Here's a short video of him chatting about the minis. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctco...xt=C32ac0dbUDOEgsToPDskI6uEZ4KT6j2G49WK8P-IDU

And another where he introduces Pet Shop. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVx-7ragrxg&feature=plcp&context=C3a47888UDOEgsToPDskJFbeTJchYbPypWIhamj3Np

Guy's a genius. Modulars, Winter Toy Shop and Emeral Night train are his designs as well. Every single one insanely creative and brilliant.

It was pretty cool to find out he's the guy behind those other sets as well. Every one of them I purchased based on their design aesthetic, not knowing the same guy was responsible. Trains aren't even my thing, but I loved the look of the Emerald Knight so much I grabbed it! His designs really seem to speak to the AFoL.

Man, I'm all Technic'd out and REALLY keen on the Mini Modular set. What say you? Good buy? How are the pieces in terms of creative potential with your own ideas? I'm gravitating towards the modular sets a lot, but I know it'll irk me that I won't be able to get my hands on all of them, let alone be willing to pay for them, so the Mini is a nice alternative.

So LEGO-GAF, Will and Norm from Tested.com are going to embark on a month-long "Endurance Test" where they will be racing to complete their respective LEGO kits. Will has the Death Star, and Norm the Super Star Destroyer. They will be actively trying to screw each other over during the series as well. I think they should start by dumping all the pieces into a pile.

Will and Norm are now on GAF, so check out the Tested topic for details once it starts.

Oh cool, a Lego thread. I recently bought 3 Technic sets off craigslist...all for 60.

8448 Super Steet Sensation
8207 Dune Duster
8437 Future Car

Not a big Technic fan but the SSS is a pretty nice looking car. It's pretty big and I like how you can put it in different gears and if it's put in reverse, it won't really go forward. I wouldn't mind flipping it to buy more Lego but it's so nice, the temptation to keep it grows. Just wish it had the instructions. I would love to get a copy of the Sail n' Fly Marina if I could flip it. I'm a big Lego Town/Space fan

Awww yeah! Got my order in :) Simple stuff but they looked like fun and I want to try my hand at making custom rules to make it less for kids :P Magma Monsters were on sale for $3.50 so the second one might be a gift depending on how awesome the first one is :)

minis are great. Finally finished building them yesterday. My son and daughter each picked one of the buildings to do themselves, and its kicked my son off designing and building his own little houses. Its amazing how much detail they can get from what are mostly fairly normal bricks

If you have the 10213 version of the shuttle there is a service pack you can order from LEGO to increase the stability. The fixed version with the added pieces has number 10231.

I have 10213, so it looks like I will head over to the LEGO site. Thanks for the info!!

emailed lego and they're sending me the service pack plus new instructions. I don't have a major issue with the stablity - its for display more than play, but free bricks are always welcome :)

this VW camper is a pain in the arse. I'm really enjoying building it, and seeing all the little details etc, but there are too many bags, and no structure. There are about 15 different bags, none numbered. By the time I was on about step 5 I'd probably already opened 10 bags. You spend 10 minutes looking for one little piece at the start.

Finally got to the end of book 1, and the pieces are slowly going down to a manageable level..

I like to combine my bags so the building lasts longer. :P

Sounds like my kind of set - I like to have builds that I can stretch out to month-long projects that I build a bit each day.

Believe me, it's a wonderful finished product and worth any hassle!

Today I was browsing Walmart and it looks like they are pushing the friends line hard there. They had most of the small sets and many of the bigger ones too. I also noticed they got a bunch of the new city sets and creator sets too. Like the forest fire and great vehicles stuff. I was kind of surprised for living in a rather remote north eastern Canadian town.
I came pretty close to picking up the creator light house but managed to resist and picked up the Police Pursuit set for the 4x4 truck instead. :)

Not surprising that they're pushing the Friends line hard, as it seems like they haven't had anything really girl-oriented in recent years. My 7 year old daughter has gone apeshit for them. When we went to the Lego store a couple days after the Friends line released, most of their stock had already been snapped up, so obviously there was a demand.

I did it... I couldn't resist it..I bought the Grand Emporium.

God I felt like a little kid when that huge box came in today..... FULL of bags with loads of Lego bricks.

I built the ground floor today and felt 25 years younger.

I'm part of LEGO-Gaf now.

Man I'm gonna be so broke this year, DC, Marvel and LOTR sets due plus I'll probably try and pick up the pet store and town hall :/

The more the merrier! I built the ground floor of the tavern from the Medieval Village today and felt much the same.

Wow. That aircraft carrier is ridiculous. It makes me not want to ever try any MOC's of my own, I will never even get close to that level.

I quite like the friends sets. Not sure about the over-sized 'maxifigs' or the abundance of pastel colours, but the focus on interiors and playsets is good - they have some really nice furniture using mostly normal bricks. Don't think I'll buy any, but i'll definitely have a look at the instructions to borrow some ideas

My friend's nephew got in the local paper for being able to finish the camper van. There's no way I could even attempt something like that, the instructions are terrifying!

My son has put together some of the higher end technics stuff when he was 8/9. He could definitely do the VW camper now (he's 10). I don't know why lego put 14+ or 16+ on the more complex sets really.

What did this end up costing you in the end?

After all was said and done, it cost around $250 USD or so. You can buy one NIB for like $350+ depending, but I had more fun parting it out. The 2x2 Green Corner was the most expensive and hard to acquire part.

Man I have the BUG!!!

been ages since I touched Lego as a kid, (Technics) and after listening to the Tested Podcast this week I grabbed a kit as I past it on a shelf in supermarket.

Just made it with my 2 1/2 year old, he loves cars and was GLUED watching and 'helping'

Now I want to get a collection together and make it a Sunday afternoon thing.

Any set recommendations guys?

It's more of a thematic thing, really. Younger kids won't have as much interest in (or even patience to build) something like Mercedes Unimog or Modulars or Winter houses. They often have historical or sentimental background that means nothing to younger kids.

Mini Bulldozer is great, as there's no kid who can resist the allure of construction machinery, and it's very smartly designed and fun model to build:

There's also a new mini crane that comes with instructions into rebuilding into a different mini bulldozer:
