The LEGO Thread

This thread is horrible for a poor student. Tempted to pick up the t-rex from the creator series, but it's hard to justify the £13 on a toy. I guess I could live on ramen for a week...

A spot of googling should sort that for you. I think Peeron.com has most of them scanned in. I usually just put 'LEGO XXXX Manual PDF' where XXXX is the product number.

peeron is good for old stuff - it can be a git to navigate, so try brickset.com to search for the set, which can then direct you to the instructions on peeron.

lego.com also has instructions in pdf but I don't know how far back they go.

Finally if you want printed instructions, you could try bricklink.com, but old stuff might be thin on the ground and/or expensive

Thank you both!

You could just skip that next AAA videogame at launch and buy it at half price the following week.

That's a good suggestion, but my gaming consists of replaying old game boy advance games at the moment :P Don't have a lot of money. Man, I look forward to graduating and getting a job. Good thing I'm an English major!

Aw crap.

Haha, I just found this set in a crate in my closet:

It's pretty busted up but I think all the pieces are in there.

Time to find out!

I'm in your boat, just said fuckit and started buying small, once you start building you won't regret it! Gonna go pick up another set after lectures today I think.

Also which is everyone's preferred site of Lego news/rumoured/announcements?

OMG, only one left in stock!

Some of these OOS prices are insane. Why wouldn't I run out to get the SSD if it's going to jump up to $2k later.

I dreamt that I was building the Death Star, and then in the dream I realized it must be a dream because I couldn't afford it.

No free shipping? Forget it.

I could always look at it as an investment or something my future kids could play with... Or a sweet dinosaur for me to build. Goddammit, I can't believe I'm this tempted by a toy.

Think of it as a 3D jigsaw that you're using to boost your spatial awareness and hand-eye co-ordination. You'll feel better then.

I would love another Lego game that isn't just a movie franchise.

Also had this game but it was nowhere near as good as Island.

What are you talking about!? That's genuinely my favourite game of all time. Maybe I remember it with rose tinted glasses, but I just had so much fun with it.

Eurobricks is actually where info pops up a bit quicker, but that's a dedicated Lego forum. Within the day, it's usually posted here by someone, though.

And yeah, Lego is an investment AND a creative toy/model/experience.

Then ill just stick to this thread, save me having another website to check daily.

EDIT: Also I had all the LEGO games as a kid, Island 1 & 2, Racers, Alpha Team (best), the various Creator games. I was a spoiled kid when it came to stuff like Lego, k'nex and construction stuff, really it was because my dad was into it, like video games, and used me as an excuse to spend plenty of money on it. I think he's doing it again with my little brother, its awesome.

EDIT 2: Did anyone else have Lego studio? That shit was AWESOME! Hoping I still have that and the original droidworks back home...

Thanks to tested and reading this thread I ended up ordering Queen Anne's Revenge. Liked the look of it and it Should arrive tomorrow. First lego I've bought since I was a kid so will see how it goes =)

Yeah I really like the look of the QAR, will probably buy it for my GF as she also did The Black Pearl which was great. The only bummer about the pirate ships is they kinda cheat a bit on the main hull, it's only comprised of three or four very large pieces so it comes together very quickly.

People on the fence need to get out of the toy/for kids mindset. LEGO is for everyone!

The hardest obstacle is not caring about what others think when you look at them in the shop considering you are in the toy section. I guess you could always say you're buying it for a cousin if someone for some reason asks.

I don't give a fuck about that. Why do you care what some random stranger thinks? In any case I usually go to the local LEGO store where there are NO JUDGMENTS.

I wish there was a Lego store in Scotland, but eitherway I have no problems buying Lego as an adult or of what others may think. When I began to buy eight years ago it was a little bit of a concern, but, it's what makes me happy, it's my hobby, and most importantly, it's my money.

No shame at all as far as i'm concerned.

Every time I go to the Lego store here, there is an employee for every customer and every one of them interrupts my browsing every 30 seconds to ask if I'm finding everything alright. Some even ask me how old the child I am buying for is. I just say, um, 35. And then go back to browsing.

Brickset

Just had word that there's going to be a special unveiling of the third Cuusoo model, 21102 LEGO Minecraft Micro World, at a LEGO CUUSOO and Mojang special event as part of LEGO World Copenhagen next week, on the 15th Feb.

Unfortunately I won't be able to get there but I'm sure we'll see pictures online shortly afterwards.

Not that bothered about it myself, but I know some of you may be. I can't imagine what you would do with the Minecraft license other than to just slap the game logo on a box of basic bricks :/

First, who give a fuck?

Second, if you're in a toy shop buying lego, the first assumption of most people is that you're buying for your child or nephew or whatever.

Unless you're buying a massive ton of the bigger sets, in which case you're probably in a proper lego store and they don't care.

Isn't that a bit easy to say though? Couldn't you say the Super Star Destroyer is just a Star Wars logo on a box of grey bricks? Just because the minecraft world is naturally blocky doesn't make it an easy set to put together. They have to figure out what scale to make it, are they making a diorama or just eg a model of a creeper. There is tons to work from.

they mention something about Minecraft micro world. Having a micro scale layout could be really sweet.

Its price, not mindset.

EDIT: And its taking all my will to not buy the firehouse right now.
Yep. If I find the Millenium Falcon half-off at my local Walmart (which I suspect I might), it's mine. It's kinda sad to feel like I'd be getting a bargain by paying $70+tax for a collection of plastic building bricks.

Well that's the other thing- Minecraft for the most part doesn't excite me, i'm not a fan of the license. Whereas the Star Wars sets are there to re-enact the fun and create new stories I imagine that'll be much harder to do with a Minecraft set- how exactly do you capture that essence and experience of the game but in toy form?

That it's microscale is encouraging I guess- atm I think it could be something similar to the Architecture theme, just more land-based. We'll see I guess.

Jabba's Palace! Do we know when this is coming out?

I asked the guy at the LEGO store and his response was they might release them to coincide with the next movie release later this year. I'm not sure when they plan on releasing Ep 2 in theaters though either.

There are no plans for Ep 2 this year at least for now. They were gonna release episode 1 and test the waters to see if people even are willing to pay to see SW again in 3D

Are people willing to pay? (I'm not). You look like a person who would know this info ;)

well I guess thats the main difference - if you're not into the licence, you might find it difficult to imagine what they could do with it. I love minecraft and there are a million directions they could go in

As much of a SW fan boy I am, I have no interest in seeing the 3D rereleases, but I really have no idea if it's going to be a success. Fanboys seem excited but is that going to be enough to make it a success? Wonder how much LFL is expecting or hoping for.

Wouldn't Minecraft sets just be boxes of parts with no instructions. Don't you build anything you want in Minecraft? Or is Minecraft more than walking around carving things out of the ground?

Minecraft is freedom to explore; its fearing for your life on the first night without shelter surrounded by monsters; its finding a never-ending cave system full of jewels and deadly skeletons; its building a huge castle on a cliff-top; its spider-proofing your compound; its...almost anything you want it to be.

So yes, its more than just walking about ;)

Well my point is that everything in the game is just stuff you or others have made right? I've never played it. So I might be wrong.
