build the train first.

So beautiful but I know I'd have to add RC power functions to it, which would push up the cost.

Will that be around for a while? My recent purchases will last me ages, and there isn't much in other themes catching my eye - this, the falcon and the Town Hall is about it I think

I used to have a crazy huge Lego train layout. It started getting expensive since Lego stopped producing the good track pieces.

Also, the Maersk stuff is weird. I don't remember the shelf life on the, but you'd be best grabbing them sooner than later. Maersk Blue is a really wonderful color, too.

I took the plunge and picked up Queen Anne's Revenge at Target. I don't think I've ever built a set before. Growing up it was just build out of the bucket of random blocks.

I finished Medieval Market Village last night! Wonderful, wonderful set. 1601 pieces. Absolutely not a single 'special' piece! Lego, you won me over, again. I had my sons (4 and 2) 'help' me out.

By help I mean I managed to keep them from stealing pieces.

Now that this, and my first two medieval MOCs are all but finished (church & small castle), I think I'm going to hang up my purchasing hat until the LOTR sets drop in the Summer. That is unless I come across the Millennium Falcon on sale.

This is the set I have my eye on. Hopefully the LEGO Store have it tomorrow. Or I'll just get Hillside House.

I really recommend it. It wasn't in stock anywhere where I live (Vancouver Island) so I was forced to order from Lego.com. Since its going OOP, paying a premium for it didn't feel so bad.

Norm posted this i'm hunting for the pieces there's got to be a better way to buy the parts =/

Yeah thanks for the tweet Norm, that should help my chances of seeing it become a real set

A couple of those pieces were pretty hard to track down myself a few years ago when I first made it. I remember those roll cage pieces around the windows were pretty rare.

Picked up the X-Wing at Target this morning, came home, put on some tunes and had SO MUCH FUN putting this together! First time I've played with LEGO in probably 20 years.

Thank you Tested crew for helping to renew this wonderful hobby for so many of us! Now I need to decide what to build next.

Does anyone else think Norm and Will are just a little crazy for RACING through a build of those huge sets? I wanted to take my time and savor every minute of snapping the X-Wing together.

Front end of the X-Wing was really interesting to make. Until I started making it, I didn't realize the front was angled.

I noticed the outside hinges sticking out while looking at the box (near the front of the nose), but it looked completely flat. I immediately thought "What a dumb thing to put there." But once you build it you realize it is just ever so slightly angled. It is subtle, which makes it awesome.

Picked up the X-Wing and the Creator 3-in-1 motorcycle tonight, and as a bonus I got a Vulture Droid kit! My wife and I started a team build for the x-wing (she had the print instructions and I had the PDF loaded up on the iPad). Got through the first 2 bags in about 30 minutes, and the she decided to turn in for the night. I'm sitting here eyeing the remaining bags, but no way I'm going to finish this one off without her this close to valentines day! Such a geeky way to spend a Saturday night, but so fun. Gateway drug indeed...

So the word is that the Town Hall will be released March 1st and will retail for $199, due to the higher piece count for this modular.

Seems expensive, its not much bigger than the grand emporium

the millenium falcon is a tease - keeps going on and off sale at amazon uk

So the USC Starfighter is on sale at the LEGO store for $60.

http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Obi-Wan-s-Jedi-Starfighter-10215

Anyone done this? Worth it?

Got it on sale too for £56 down from £90something and I'm really pleased with it. Build wise it was nothing against my only other UCS (X-Wing) but the final model is really nice.

The stand is good as it rotates which means I'll get extra use out of that for MOCs. Piece count seems low but it's a good selection of parts and some nice use of SNOT.

Man, I have a huge amount of respect for the guy who designed the LEGO Mini-Modular set.

Just finished building it and they are incredibly detailed compared to their bigger brothers.

Since the mini-modular set doesn't include the newest modulars (Pet Shop, and soon-to-release Town Hall), I have made it a project to build mini-versions of them myself (same scale as the official ones).

I'm using the LEGO Digital Designer which is a pretty cool tool, but it is very difficult to make a model as detailed as the official ones. It doesn't help that the Pet Shop is actually two separate modular buildings. I'm working on the apartment section of the Pet Shop and it is very hard to make with only a 4x8 base to work with.

Assuming I can make good enough sets of the buildings, I'm going to try and buy all the pieces and build a physical model.

I'm not sure where I'd start with LDD, can't help thinking I'd be fighting the interface all the time

I might start using real bricks, try to figure out the main details of the large sets and how they'd be represented in micro scale.

If you don't have lots of those little bricks, you could break down the mini modulars and use those for prototyping

The spaceship designs in this game bear a strong resemblance to the designs popularized by illustrators Chris Foss and Peter Elson, who are both mentioned in the special thanks section of the game's credits, and the latter being referenced in game by the leader of the Taiidan rebellion during the Homeworld War.

TH = 2766pcs
GE = 2182pcs

It's significantly bigger (in terms of piece count) than any of the previous modulars, so I could understand LEGO asking for a higher price on this one. The worry is though, if this is true, that they are trying to set a new price level for the modulars going forward.

We should find out the truth sooner or later, if it is going to be available soon.

Wow...checking out the LDD for the first time, it feels soulless, sterile. Poor interface. I guess, though, Lego doesn't want it to be anything more than a helper/planning tool for more ambitious designers.

I just got the Shuttle Expedition which I've wanted for aaages.

Gonna enjoy this build :-)[/QUOTE]
I'm so jealous...

Damn beatiful. Too bad there ain't Vaygr Missile Frigate. Or the Hiigaran Battlecruiser. Or many others...
EDIT there is small Missile Frigate but it is WIP and small.

I want the guys that make tumble to work on LDD. Move + 3D would be a great interface

The Toys R Us sale is looking pretty nice. I may order the falcon, both pirate ships, and one more big set yet to be determined. I'll likely pull the trigger later today.

People have done some amazing creations in LDD, bit it definitely takes some getting used to. Also, Town Hall is going to make my wallet angry...But I have to wait and grab GE before it goes OOP!

I don't know who's doing the math on the TRU website, but the 30% off apparently doesn't work for the LEGO stuff. Everything I'm seeing is only 10% off.

EDIT: Ahh, the fine print... "Top selling" Star Wars products are 30% off, and appears to only apply to a few smaller LEGO sets...

Happy to see those X-Wing build pics - makes me more interested to try it. Have otherwise been pretty lukewarm towards these otherwise. But is there anyway to configure/mod it so that the droid body isn't turned 90 degrees? I had the original Lego X-Wing back in '99/'00 (and, stupidly, sold it and the other early sets I had) and seem to remember the droid being the right way around.

Also, what's the difference between this year's X-Wing and the one from two or three years back? My local TRU has the older one still (was an exclusive for them I assume), but at a hefty £55.

Meanwhile, I'm currently halfway through the Pet Shop build. I love it. Totally moving on to my own modular MOC next - I have the City Train Station, the HP Hogwarts Game (both built on sale) and some pick a brick stuff specifically to do my own creation. It's picking the subject that has me torn!

BTW - do any of the Lego CAD apps (for Mac!) let you only use the contents from from specific sets? I.e. I tell it I own the above sets and the only bricks available to me are the plates and bricks in my collection? Wondering if there was a shortcut way to configuring this stuff. I've got a fair bit of LDD experience, but it's a bit slow and cumbersome and a little buggy.

Yeah, this TRU sale is bullshit. They have a total of three sets for 30% off, an other than the Y-wing, none of them would qualify as "top-selling". In fact, if you take TRU's markup over retail, many of the 10% off sets are still more expensive than other stores!

If you are looking to buy the Death Star or SSD, you could save a bit as they are $360 each, but I would rather give my money directly to LEGO, after this TRU garbage.

I don't find the LDD to be too bad, but maybe that's because I've never used anything else. The one problem I've found with the most recent version is that you're allowed to build with pieces in colors that don't exist.

It really sucks because I've been designing an awesome MOC inspired by the mini modulars and then I realized that some of my models can't be recreated in real life.

Everyone should be careful when buying from TRU, even if it's on "Sale". One example of their markups is the Harry Potter Quidditch Match set, which has an MSRP of $19.99, but they have it priced at $37.99.

^^
yeah, I was underwhelmed with the LOTR selection. I guess that they're still working on things like The Shire, Mordor, Rohan, Gondor, etc.

Hundreds of pictures of the upcoming sets from NY Toy Fair:

No UCS B-Wing or LEGO Direct items, as expected. Jabba's Palace and the new LotR sets look amazing - finally LEGO has created a new horse!

Thanks for the link.

I'm not a fan of the LotR buildings, they look kinda boring and simple. But I love the minifigs!

Let's hope they do a huge Minas Tirith set. Would be awesome.
