The LEGO Thread

Seriously, why hasn't this been done yet? As well as the opposite, a piece with the bottom side repeated on the top?

Come to think of it, there may be a weird issue regarding the molding of the brick...That would be the ONLY reason I can think of. :|

E: Based off of cjelly's comment, this isn't an issue. Now I'm even more in the dark as to why Lego hasn't done this.

And yeah, Kamino is what I was thinking of. I imagine it to be a medium sized play set more than a UCS style thing, but it just struck me as a really neat location.

I'm going to stand by my idea that Lego is going to design and release sets based off of the new 3D re-release schedule, haha.

I have no Lego any more but I'm strangely drawn to this thread every time I see it.

I just remembered that all my childhood Lego got given to a centre for people with severe special needs, the fact that it's all so far from being salvageable now is quite comforting.

Do a modular Hill Valley Future and and you've got my vote.

More votes, plz

Here's my collection of city vehicles. My favorites are the yellow car and it's caravan as well as the orange tipper truck. They are both sturdy and well built. I was disappointed with the garbage truck. It felt very flimsy on the sides and not a fan of it's dumping mechanism.

Nice collection of cars! That's disappointing to hear about the trash truck. I was looking at that one with my son last night. It's interesting the orange tipper truck feels more sturdy to you because the back is open.

The yellow car comes with the camper on the right of your picture right?

So Lego has renewed the Star Wars contract for 10 more years...and with most of the main ships already released as UCS sets, where can they go from here?

The way I see it, they can go in two directions: reach deeper into the prequels and expanded universe and release lesser-known ships, or they can re-release some of the fan favorite UCS ships like the Falcon, ISD etc.

What do you guys think? I know re-releasing past UCS sets is something Lego would probably never do, as it'd piss off collectors, but it's also ridiculous to have these amazing sets only available for a couple years before skyrocketing into these silly price ranges because they're out of print.

don't re-release. re-imagine

you don't piss off collectors for releasing the same set, and you can use some of the nice new bricks and techniques from modern sets to make them stand out.

Prequel trilogy, extended universe, games etc just don't have the broad appeal to support $300-400 UCS sets

I like the way you think. I'm only bringing this up for discussion because I'm bitter about missing out on the UCS Falcon and want a piece of the action at some point :(

I need a Falcon in my collection but the only one available is not minifig scale so it will look stupid with all my other scaled ships.

I'm only suggesting they redo it for exactly the same reason ;)

plus after seeing what they can do with the imperial shuttle, VW camper and shuttle expedition, the thought of a 'new' UCS falcon and Star Destroyer makes me drool

I hate being "that guy" who replies to every post... :P

But this is so spot on. The T1 Van is where I start with showing people how far Lego has come. If they took the time to re-imagine some of the UCS or older sets, they could really take things to a new level.

But they've never "redone" a UCS set. Even the two upcoming ones we know about are brand new - R2D2 and the B-Wing.

Let's just hope they don't do any more busts like the UCS Darth Maul hahaha

On the boxes does it define the set as a UCS? I was thinking about ordering the Obi Jedi fighter as it's on sale on Lego's website for 60 dollars. I figured almost 50% is a good deal. But I was looking at the image of the box and I don't see anything about UCS on it.

How is that determined?

The newer UCS sets don't say UCS. I think it's part of how it's numbered (10xxx).

Yes, they come together.

What?! I love the sculpture style pieces! My Lego Dragon I parted out is (next to the Tower Bridge) the most adorable and amazing set ever, haha. Sculpture sets are gorgeous for display!

I did it. I bit the bullet and bought Obi's starfighter and got my g/f a Dobby keychain since she likes Harry Potter so much.

Finished my Imperial Shuttle during the weekend, it's gorgeous and all, but damn didn't think it would be this big. Kinda having a hard time finding a good place to put it, and takes up ton of space when on the stand in flight mode. Also it's kind flimsy with how it's wings are designed so trying to find a place that the cat won't get to it.

Yeah I didn't think the wings would be so loose and wobbly. My cat started rubbing his face on the middle wing and I almost had a heart attack.

I just want the Ebon Hawk.
I want the Mass Effect Normandy.

So I got a VIP card a long time ago when I bought a Slave I for my office. First time I got a lego set in ages.

They announced double points for the first half of March, so I figured I'll pick something up to compliment my Slave I and get some points for a Lego Friends set for my niece in the future. Now I'm sitting in my office with an Echo Base set, Droid Escape set, and the old Wampa Cave set (which I ordered online because, what the hell, might as well get a snowspeeder for Echo Base.)

What a god damn slippery slope. Working less than a block away from the Lego store doesn't help either.

I wish they would revisit other old sets too. Like the Classic Space sets for example. I'd love to see some of the old space sets "re-imagined" with some new details and more modern pieces. Take the good old Galaxy Explorer for example. It was my absolute favorite Lego set as a kid. I must have built that thing over a dozen times. Take it and change out the windows and glass, add some of the newer wing parts into the mix, make the landing gear more creative, update the buggy in the back, make the engines on the side a tad more detailed and there you go! Then go and do that to a bunch of the old Classic Space sets and make it a new theme. I'd buy them in a second.

I remember when I was younger that I had some sort-of Lego book. I don't believe it was a catalog (it might have been but that was so long ago - late 80s), but it it just had images of really large sets and some of the images were for models that I know you couldn't buy.

I recall one being this huge space station/space base type model, build on one of those gray bases that had the little craters in the corner. The set was primarily blue/gray with the yellow tinted windows. It looked massive back then and seemed to have a lot of detail. Am I crazy or does anyone else have an idea of what I'm thinking about?

That's not it. I can't find it anywhere.

If anything it was sort-of like this, but it was a base build onto a crater plate. I remember thinking it was cool because it was a very "vertical" set. It had a ton of different levels. In my mind I'm thinking it was something done just for this catalog/magazine that it was in and wasn't something you could actually buy - I just wish I could find an image of it.

I seem to remember whatever magazine/brochure that had the sets I'm thinking of was sort-of like a very early "Do it yourself" Lego guide. I seem to remember that they're were very basic instructions for smaller sets that you could put together with pieces from the different 80s era Space sets.

I can't even remember how I got that magazine/brochure, but it wasn't anything where you ordered sets.

EDIT: I FOUND IT! One min while I load the image

And this was the book...

do you mean like, when the manuals would show you a really cool *picture* of a model you could make, but not actually show you how to build it? That shit used to give me incredible rage

If you have a LEGO store nearby and you want to order something that shop.lego.com has in stock but not at the store, you have them order it in the store and they will waive the shipping costs. I just did that with the Obi-Wan Star Fighter and one of the Winter Creator sets. You still get double points too!

I always wondered as a kid if they gave you enough pieces to even build the extra models. Apparently they did and I just wasn't good at Lego haha.

For real! I think when I had that building guide they didn't even sell those type of space sets any more. The second round of Space Police and the Blacktron series were what I had to choose from.

My fiancee just said I wasn't allowed to get the Death Star or SSD any time soon, because I just spent ~$530 on a ton of sets last month and we need to save for the wedding.

I'd better go ahead and order one of them soon so I can set a precedent :D

Pet store, batman vs cat woman, superman vs lex, mech Batman and joker turned up today. I think my 2.5 year old girl was more excited than me, she hovered around while I took it all out the shipping box and went "LEGOS!" When I revealed it all. The "ooooh what's dat? When I took the pet shop out of the big Lego bag it was wrapped in.

She kept asking to open them but I was already for work, she just sat and looked at the box while I got ready, had a massive tantrum when I took it away "I just want to look it"

I can't trust her not to destroy the box and contents if I left it out all day. Last time got a modular (fire brigade) she wasn't even walking so I always built it when she was in bed, I'm tempted to build it with her this time, dunno how that will work out though and I won't be able to with her til Sunday.

I just discovered something very disappointing. The US has over 60 lego stores. I just found out that up here in Canada we have 4!. 2 in Toronto, One in Calgary, and one in Vancouver. Bummer! :(

that ideas book is great. Page 42 has a windmill/waterwheel with a neat offset cam-type thing that works a little saw. Going to build that

Finished the Fire Brigade this afternoon, and damn was that an awesome set.

Preparing to begin the second floor and roof. No sorting, just bags emptied into their own piles.

It is the little touches in the set that make it so awesome. As you see here, you build a couch, sink, and kitchen area. Complete with a frying pan on the stove.

apmapl.jpg

Fridge before you put the hot dogs into it. Yes, this set comes with small hotdogs (or sausages if you will). Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds.

V45Nel.jpg

This might be my favorite little touch on the second floor. The ping pong table.

4KwZIl.jpg

Completed second floor, along with my cat who was upset that I was playing with Lego bricks instead of letting her sit on my lap all afternoon.

The second floor was the best part of the set. It has the coolest, and funniest little touches inside of it, but also the front of it is so fantastic looking when completed.

LOhM8l.jpg

The completed Fire Brigade. The roof section is awesome as well. The surprise at how you actually build the numbers, down to putting a bat in the bell tower.

As I have said many times in this thread, I was never a fan of Town themed sets. But the way this thing comes together and all the little touches that you dont know about until you make them makes this one of the most fun and enjoyable builds out there. There were more surprises and moments of glee as I built this than even when making the awesome Imperial Shuttle.

I also like how they have the bags separated by floor, so it is easy to stage and pace this build over a few days. I need to give it a month or more, but Grand Emporium is going to be my next order. My wife might not even kill me, because she found this set so neat as it came together, and also realized just how much these things shoot up in value over the years.

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I'm sending this post to my friend who isn't allowed to buy Lego again until his infant daughter is old enough to play with them.

Just got the Lego catalog through the door and there's a 10% off voucher on the back just 3 days after I spent £375. D'oh.

Oh well, at least when I go back at the weekend to use my 900 points or so I can use the voucher too.

Ooo - mine should be here by the weekend for my trip to the Lego store!

I just got back from Walmart and grabbed 3817 Flying Dutchman. I'm a sucker for Spongebob sets, and it was Osage for $20. Figured why not. :)
