lots of cool stuff in those books even though I never had the bricks to completely build anything xD

and to weigh in on the cloud city discussion, that would be awesome! but its all very round and I imagine difficult to realize...

So jealous of your Fire Brigade full build, Phoncible!

I'm still waiting for LEGO to get that missing bag to me. If I don't get it today, I'm gonna have to call them back and see if they have a better ETA on that.

The one I had as a kid was this one. What I really liked about it is the book told a little story as two mini figs traveled through the different themes.

I really wish they would reimagine some of the old classic space series. It probably won't happen as Star Wars is really successful but a man could hope.

I actually had both of those two. I recognize that second book in an instant. My memory of it, however is the same as the other one. Instructions for a bunch of sets that I couldn't build because I didn't have any of the pieces. lol

So I bought and built this last night:

I'm a sucker for Spongebob, and with it being $20 at Walmart, I had to buy it.

------------------------------

What I liked

The back of the ship had a few really creative building techniques. I particularly liked how the windows were put on hinges with little cheese wedges on top to give that shape.

The sail is a printed piece - no stickers at all in this set.

Green bricks in any quantity are always nice to have - the curved slopes on the side of the ship are a piece I've never seen before, so even better. These will be GREAT for unique details.

Speaking of colors, I don't think I have a single one of those trans blue "cannon balls" that this set includes, either. As with green bricks, I love trans bricks. Always a welcome addition to my collection.

I really love the little plank island. It's such a simple and quick build, but it's done very well and has a lot of charm. There's also a hidden cove with a treasure chest in there!

The not so much...

The cannon and base...I realize the cannon can't be built (given it's functionality), but the base could have. I didn't like that it was a specialized piece.

Speaking of specialized pieces, I don't enjoy them. Being a ship and a smaller set, I can sort of see Lego's idea, but overly specialized parts that I won't use again are bothersome to me.

------------------------------

Overall, I'd say the set lies in the average to above-average range. If you don't hate the Spongebob line, at $20, it's probably worth grabbing. There are probably better buys out there (especially since this one IS licensed and has a more selective audience by default), but we've all got our thing. ;)

SSD is spiral bound, one big book

The way it should be on the big sets. Although it is funnier to see people's faces when you tell them a set has four instruction manuals like the Imperial Shuttle.

The problem I have is lighting in my apartment. Sometimes on the instructions I have trouble telling if the brick is black, grey, or dark grey. And on fire brigade you add in lots of tan and dark red and brown. It is easy to tell on most bricks but the instructions are not as easy.

This is a big problem with their instructions. Telling dark grey from black is almost impossible unless both colors are on the same page.

YES!!! I still have that book to this day. It was my favorite Lego book ever, man did that book fuel so many ideas for my brother and I. We built entire Lego towns after studying it. I'm gonna have to dig that out of the closet tonight now and read it while I eat dinner.

I'm still waiting for LEGO to get that missing bag to me. If I don't get it today, I'm gonna have to call them back and see if they have a better ETA on that.

It is just a bag labeled 1 right? With a few smaller bags inside?

If so, just jump right to the number 2 bags and the second instruction book. That way you have the second story and roof constructed, then when the missing bags arrive you build the fire truck and first floor.

I opened Pet Shop last night but it was too late to start. I totally agree with the instruction complaint of not being able to discern the difference between a black, grey and dark-grey piece printed.

When I was building the fire brigade I did make a stupid mistake on the first floor and accidentally used a tan piece instead of a light gray one. I realized it about ten steps later when I had one light grey piece left on the table and no tan pieces. Thankfully, it was easy to spot and remove, as it was one small brick on the back side of the set. One lone 1x2 tan brick in the middle of a light gray wall sure stood out.

I felt really dumb for the mistake, but it was easily corrected.

I did also drop one of the round brown bricks that you use to build the tree. And like all small Lego, it somehow teleported to another dimension. So the tree at the front of my fire brigade is all brown, but in the middle of the foliage it is a round black brick instead of brown. But you cant tell unless you are really looking for it.

Yeah, I built the second level and roof within the first couple of days of having it.

It's now been almost two weeks waiting for the missing bag to show up so I can finish off the build.

WOW. That is horrible. I am so sorry to hear it has been that long. When I opened the box from Toys R Us the other night (which the box was fine but the Fire Brigade box inside was caved in) I was so scared of having one of the missing bag batches.

That really sucks that they havent gotten the replacement to you yet. I would contact them again.

I hated the packaging and 4 manuals of the Imperial shuttle. All the bags just bulge out to the bottom of the box, all of them at the Lego store were like that, and all 4 of my manuals got crushed on the bottom under all those bags

Weird. My manuals came in a cardboard backed bag. At least I think they did. It was either that or the Falcon. Or both. I have gotten too many sets (HA!) this past month to pay attention, but I know something other than Fire Brigade came with bagged instructions.

I had this on one of my sets. Really disheartening. :(

As I mentioned I might, I sold all of the PotC LEGO, and used the funds to pick up the Maersk Train, VW Camper, Pet Shop (which I am currently building), Garbage Truck and Car with Camper.

I'm pretty happy with the exchange, as I would rather see more original LEGO Pirates sets (to go with the Imperial Flagship) than licensed ones.

Well I'd say you definitely made a great exchange! Maersk, Camper, and Pet Shop are wonderful models!

My shuttle came in a cardboard backed bag as well.

Lego sent one of my orders pretty quickly, but another recently left from Strykow, Poland.

The five newest members of the family.
So far I've been able to identify them all by touch and have no duplicates.
But I'm still missing 3 from series 5 and worry that they are no longer there, as I've been using the only box in town to find the ones I have so far.
Still missing
Cleopatra, cave woman, graduate student.
Sadly no other shop around has any series 5 boxes left... :/

Also my complete order of series 4 arrived :)
Yet to unpack and build up. Though.

Looking at the lego calendar again it says on march 15th find the 4-leaf clover in store and get a special savings. Im wondering what it is, maybe an additional % off? Kind of waiting to take advantage of double points on that day to see what the savings is.

Careful, that's the final day of double VIP points. I'm placing my order on March 12th for the free shipping and double VIP points.

edit: Looked it up and they did this last year too I guess, ended up being save $5 on every purhcase over $25. Guess ill wait until the 15th then.

Does anyone know if this will also occur on the European store?

What do you feel for for that Sherlock Holmes guy? I kinda want that one, but have no idea how to find it between all those bags.

got the new catalogue too. Oh look a 10% off voucher, just below a big picture of the new town hall....

I hope mine comes before the weekend...I want to get double VIP on stuff, then get VIP discount + 10% off on whatever else. Double purchase weekend!

Man, I am dying for some new news. Maybe specific August release dates for the new Star Wars sets, or some more info on the Monster Fighters series, or the upcoming UCS R2-D2 and B-Wing.

Are there any upcoming events where Lego would typically release new info like this?

I preach it because I live it - Eurobricks.com

The front page usually has up to date info on what's going on and big releases.
