Was a very fun build, and a bit surprise how similar in assembly it was to the smaller falcon there. Despite the large piece count it's not much bigger than the UCS Super Star Destroyer, wider of course, but over a foot shorter. The increased piece count really comes from them sticking every manner of tiny part on the outer panels for detailing., the construction on the loading ramp was also pretty creative.

All in all, glad I bought, will be a nice living room display piece for years to come.

One negative. Unlike the Imperial Shuttle, and SSD, the plaque is not a single flat piece, but a whole bunch of flat pieces. Debated even putting the sticker on, but in the end did.

Look at that! LOOK AT THAT!

So beautiful, and it looks like it is to scale with the minifigs.

You got it built FAST!

I must have this someday.

I decided I'd build each part of the Mini Modulars over a five day period. I finished Market Street when I got home and now I'm just holding off the temptation to build Green Grocer.

Anyone know when the avengers sets are due out? I'm selling off all my sets, boxes and spares of series 6 minifigures to fund the next series, town hall and avengers sets but I wanna try and buy them from one seller in one hit to save on postage but I don't know how long I have to wait for the marvel sets

Must be soon.

My local TRU (UK) had the Helicarrier set in today, but only three.
There are only two now :)

Yeah they only did the 1 piece plaque on more recent sets. UCS SD has an exactly identical plaque with another sticker.
Edit: Also I hate you, you are making me jealous, almost enough to drive me to just go get one of my own.

Looks amazing, but the price is still insane.

I was in the LEGO store during lunch today and they already had copies of May events calendar. There are two promotions I'm sure everyone will be interested in:
  • May 4-5th: Free Limited Edition TC-14 Minifigure with a $75 LEGO Star Wars purchase
  • May 16-31 Free Exclusive Hulk Minifigure with a $50 purchase

Here is a pic from my cellphone. I definitely want the TC-14 figure.

Have to ask, does the UCS Falcon have cargo holds, lounge and all that stuff? Or is just outwardly scale model of Falcon?

Ooh, I was looking to get the mini modulars somewhat soonish for a gift, and that's $79.99. Will have to keep that in mind and try to get it on one of those two dates. Still wish I had a Lego store anywhere near me :(

Aim for the second dates , as it wouldn't qualify for the TC14.

Finished the first floor of the fire brigade. Mostly uneventful, but I really liked how they cover the top of the shuttered door with an upside down build, and the sideways door over the front of the building. And the yellow stripes/bollards are cool too. Still think they should have had a more modern fire engine - old buildings stay around, but they tend to update equipment :) might challenge my son to build one for me

Let us know your impressions of the second floor and roof. Those were the best parts of that set in my opinion, and what made me fall in love with the modulars.

That TC-14 minifig will probably be a hot item if that's the only way to get one.

Agreed. In the past at my LEGO store they give out multiples based on how much you spend. So I wonder if they will give you two of them if you spend 150 or what. If so that's perfect to get R2-D2.

It amazes me how much you can save on custom building sets when you just look into it and make some educated decisions on what you're working with. When I built the dragon, I substituted every 2x8 green brick for 2~2x4 green bricks and saved a LOT of money. The same thing goes for things like your build and some of the modulars...Special pieces/colors can be substituted with no impact on the final product and will save a good chunk!

Good call, and that build looks fantastic so far! I love pictures of the framework and skeleton-builds.

Bricklinking a UCS falcon can get annoying and is time consuming, but it was a learning experience.

You pretty much have to make smart decisions now, as a bunch of the ucs falcon pieces are becoming hard to find on bricklink, either in quantity required or for a decent price. For example, it needs 21 left and right 3x2 wedge bricks (42 pieces in total), but that can cost over $50 total before shipping. I learned that 3 plates = 1 brick, and got 63 of each side for almost .10 each. Built my own damn 3x2 wedge bricks.

Still, smart bricklinking will likely only get you down to the mid $800 range for the UCS falcon. It took me over 30 orders, which was too much really, and the shipping really added up. I stopped counting how much it was costing me, but I finished a bit over $900.

I think I love Bricklink, without it I wouldn't be staring at this awesome evil dwarf minifig. Ordered a used but complete set from Indiana Jones (motorcycle chase) for a good price on there just because who in their right mind wouldn't want a motorcycle and sidecar with Indiana Jones and Sean Connery mnifigs...I mean who?

Also dangerously tempted to go out and buy the Millennium Falcon....someone please stop me!

I'm kind of glad in some ways that bricklink is so obtuse to use, I'd spend so much more money there if it was more consolidated.

Quick heads up that Argos in the UK have 3 for 2 on star wars Lego, including the millennium falcon, tie fighter and x-wing

Outside of the cockpit (which is big enough for 4 minifigs), and the top gunner seat, the UCS Falcon has no interior detail whatsoever. The new one is designed to be played with, but this one is only for admiring the exquisite exterior.

Ah damn, I totally missed that it needed to be a Star Wars purchase over $75, thanks for the catch. I'm sure I can come up with something to meet that requirement though lol.

Edit: Also yeah, the Lego US store is also showing R2-D2 as May 1st.

I would much rather get the TC-14, as chrome minifigs are rare, so I'll hold off getting R2 until those two days.

I may find something to get the Hulk, but I wish they had held off until June. Who knows though what the June promo will be.

I thought I read that series 7 mini figs would be releasing today. I wasn't able to stop at the Lego store in Toronto to check. Anyone have good news?

I would think with the Star Wars the Old Republic line coming out soon that more chrome figures will be introduced, as droids play a big part of that game.

Got Brickley in the post. My daughter built him, and he goes well with the lighthouse I did at the weekend.

My mini version of your photo.

I just picked up the lighthouse today for $3.xx at a local TRU that was clearing them out. The smaller Brickley I've had sitting in it's polybag for awhile and had yet to build it. (I was waiting on a lighthouse or some sort of water themed item to pair him with)

Two ships, though I don't want to spoil you on what they are unless you are at a certain point in the game...

I looked it up, my Sith Marauder already has it :D thanks for thinking about the spoiler aspect though. Although I am not overly impressed with the lego version to be honest.

My fellow Lego GAF, I am at a in pass in a purchase right now. I have two choices

1. Millennium Falcon 7965

or

2. Ywing and Tie Fighter

Opinions on what was more fun to build?

General consensus on the Tie Fighter from Gaffers is that while fun to look at, it is not that exciting or engaging a build.

The Tie Fighter shields get repetitive since it's 2 of the same thing. Y-wing is a really straight forward build if you enjoy that.

I went over my parents house today and my mom "convinced" me to take all our old Lego back home with me. Looking through it all there was this mini catalog with this gem.

All 3. :).

The TIE looks awesome but is a average build. The y wing is above average to build but looks a bit less awesome than the TIE. The coolest thing with the Y Wing is the little details pulled off with so few and odd bricks as it comes together.

The Falcon is a really fun build though. Lots of fun and it looks great in the end.

If you can't do all three, you can't go wrong with the falcon.

Again, I know it's not Lego, but...Sorry for the unique picture quality. I'm still trying to learn how to make the Pro HDR app on my iPhone take nice pictures, haha.

I decided to unbox the beast...

Discovered there were a LOT of little bags.

And now, after putting nearly 6000 little blocks in a few containers, I'm ready.

One thing I REALLY like about Nanoblocks is how few piece types there are. I think there's a total of 11? So it makes things really easy to sort and work with.

After building Tower Bridge with no sorting, I can definitely see the appeal of that.

On the other hand, I really like the way modern LEGO sets use so many specialty pieces for detail. The sets from the 70s/80s look so blocky and primitive by comparison. Sets like the mini modulars would lose most of their charm if they were limited to only rectangular pieces.

And that's actually what I don't like about a good number of the modern sets, haha. It really boils down to preference, and it's why I'm loving Nanoblocks more and more. I still love me some Lego, don't get me wrong! But given that I don't want any new sets right now, growing my collection of these guys is a priority!

Elaboration (I was on iPad trying to type and play Tiger Woods, haha). It's not that the new sets don't interest me, it's more that rather than building a curved section, Lego molded a piece. Now, I really love that blocky/pixelated look, but I know a lot of people don't. As a result, it makes sense why Lego did that. That's why I love the sculpture builds that Lego has put out so much.

And I'll take a picture of those blocks and boxes with some Lego comparisons for you neonglow.

PICS!

Neuschwanstein Deluxe Edition = ~6000 pieces
Grand Emporium = 2182 pieces

Just to give another size comparison, that's the T1 Van next to 10 different Nanoblock sets, haha.

The modulars are the best of both worlds. There are a select few odd an unique pieces in them, but most of the set is just standard blocks that have been around forever but using off the wall techniques to achieve the look.

I have the feeling that someone stole the VW Camper off my porch this afternoon :( , Really hoping the same thing doesn't happen to the Shuttle and Fire Brigade sets.
