As a married women, I think your fiancee is wrong. She obviously knew about your Lego habit before you proposed- you should not have to change. as long as you two are meeting bills and saving, keep on buying!

We don't have a huge wedding budget so we need have some of our own money available for it; and I didn't get into Legos until after I proposed. She knows I won't stop buying them, just that I need to slow down. But fortunately for both of us I can afford Legos and still be able to contribute to our wedding/honeymoon! She also really likes chococat haha

I got three Series 6 minifigure packs today. Just picked some out at random, and I got one of the the figures I REALLY wanted: The Clockwork Robot! He's awesome. I also got the Intergalactic Girl and the Flamenco Girl, neither of which I was dying to get. It works out, though, because I do have a soft spot for the classic Space theme, and the IG is pretty nice. And the Flamenco Girl reminds me of my future wife, so maybe I'll give it to her. Series 6 is really great, I definitely don't regret getting any of them. Just hope I don't get too many doubles.

These are the first Series 6 figs I've gotten, for the record. If anyone has some doubles that they want to trade for blind series 3 or series 5 packs, or for some different series 7 figs of which I have a couple extras, let me know! Besides the Alien, the Skater Girl, the Surgeon, and the Mechanic, I really want all of them. Particularly the Statue, the Highlander, the Minotaur, the Bandit... ;D

I'd definitely be interested in the blind series 3 bags!
Will have plenty of s6 and s7 to trade after the weekend!

As a divorced man, I wish there more women like you in this regard.

Amazon: Attack on Weathertop (9472) officially 17% off ($49.95 -- as it should have been priced all along :p)

unrelated, but I saw some batman dark knight rises heroclix blind packs today, bought two as an impulse buy... and ugh, I got a cop and a bandit :P I'm such a sucker! I really should get the starter kit though, has some cool figs in it

Always wanted to try heroclix. I go to Gen Con and have the chance to...Problem is, nobody I know plays it (and my local game shop is not fun...).

Same. But I could probably convince a person or two to give it a try. Granted, most people shy away from collectable games of any sort since it gets very expensive... and fast.

BTW, heroclix (at least this set, not sure about others) are packaged in such a way that you can't feel them out and try to discern what figure is inside. They are in plastic casing to prevent squishing :( Makes buying them in any way other than by the case a ridiculous gamble.

I wonder why LEGO hasn't tried to create a gaming component to its minifigs? Yes, we've seen chess and the like... what about more of a wargame approach?

So it looks like Jabba's Palace has some "mystery holes" on the underside that point to it hooking into another set...

Rancor pit anyone?

Staying on Star Wars, ACPin on Eurobricks has created an amazing MOC of the Geonosian arena from Episode II.

I would advise anyone into SW to visit his site.

Another Supercar update!

So this is where I'm at currently. Overall shot!

Seriously, I thought System models were genius in execution. Technic models have made my head explode. These designers are VERY intelligent and creative, and definitely deserve a pat on the back.

And for what it's worth, no pictures can really do the details of this model justice. You have to build it to believe it!

It has been about 12 years or so since I did a Technic model. Loved those things as a kid because of the sheer complexity of it. But since they moved to the studless bricks it is really, really cool. Last one I did was the Destroyer Droid when it first came out. Think I will be grabbing a technic set soon, just for the challenge.

And I did grab two really cheap sets tonight, just for the mini figs:

And Hoth Rox!

EDIT: BTW, Nicoga. Please, please, please do not start me down the dark path of Technic. My wallet is weeping at all the awesome Creator series and modulars. If I go down the Technic path I will be lost for good...
Once I start down the dark path, forever will it dominate my destiny. Consume me it will. Just as it did Vader...

Yeah the Technic sets have become quite complex and very interesting in how they're put together. I keep meaning to pick up a new one - I'm waiting for the parts for my thrift air enforcer (which is basically just a modern version of my old Whirlwind Rescue) and then I might take a look at some new sets.

It also reminds me of the first Technic set I ever got as a kid, which was the desert racer. I don't think I got all the parts, though, as I probably got it used from someone.

I also played a ton with the generic pneumatic set at the time. I loved it so much - which makes sense as I would have been seven when I got it.

Not Technic, but the largest set I owned as a kid:

But my Holy Grail as a kid, but I never got:

Funny that Brickset lists it as "Test Car" when it was called "Auto Chassis" when it was released. I loved the older packaging for huge sets where it had a flap on the front of the box that flipped up to show you some of the larger and rarer pieces.

That Model Team truck was the one set I owned that I NEVER took apart after finishing it. When I moved, even into college, it stayed assembled.

Sadly, I have no idea where the set is now. I dont know if I left it at an apartment I moved out of on short notice about ten years ago, or if it was at my mother's and my nephew took it. I got most of my Lego sets back from her, but I know a lot is missing. Like most of my Pirate and M-Tron stuff from my childhood.

It also pains me that I am missing ONE part of the Futuron Monorail track. I am missing one curve, which makes it impossible to completely reconstruct the track.

this was my ultimate lego present when I was a kid. Other than a couple of space sets, I don't remember any specific sets except this one.

Phoniclebone - there are of course *two* dark paths you can take :). One is to buy a couple of neat technics sets. The other is to re-buy some of your favourite childhood lego. I bought my 8860 from ebay and opening the box was like that scene from ratatouille where the critic flashes back to his childhood.

Dem wheels on those old Technic sets. Always wanted the massive wheels. But I have TONS of the classic ones like the Go Kart and Arctic ones.

And as for rebuying old sets, that is okay. I have been able to reconstruct quite a few of my old classics, like almost all the Space Police (gen 1. The best gen dammit!) and Blacktron classic (when they were all black and yellow). I am visiting my mother in a couple of weeks, and I plan to scour the house for another bin of missing Lego, because there is WAY too much missing from my old sets to just be random things my nephew took.

Model Team was like a cross between Technic and System, right??

Ha - I was getting bored with System. I haven't bought a System set in a while because of it. The mechanics, the functionality, the creativity in design...System does a lot of this, but it doesn't offer the mechanisms that Technic does.

My Bricklink order of 320 2x2x2 inverted slopes in white turned up this week so I picked up some thick 600gsm cardboard and my put together my frame for the collectible minifigures using an Ikea Ribba frame. Here's my first test run with Series 1. I need to go and pick up another 6 frames now :|

ikeaframe.jpg

I want to do up some more as well one with batman minifigs, one for the avengers, one for the lords of the rings, one for indiana jones. I may even dip into star wars stuff and grab 8 or so minifigs to represent each film from the original trilogy in a frame. On top of that I'll probably put my ghostbusters and slimer in a frame along with the keymaster, gatekeeper and stay puff marshmellow man I'm working on.

did you glue the slopes to the cardboard?

did you glue the slopes to the cardboard?

yeah just a single drop of super glue on each one, I actually built a bit of a support structure with other bricks around it as I glued them so each one was spaced evenly and easily.

Pro Tip: don't put too much superglue on unless you want your support structure stuck to the paper as well :P. There's a few chunks of paper torn off cardboard and some stuck to my support bricks now, guess I need to order some more from bricklink to replace them as some of them were from the modular sets. The glued ones will just become my permanent support pieces from now on. Thankfully where the paper is torn from the cardboard isn't noticeable once the minifigs are on their stands.

Looks great, how did you attach the diver?

Funny you should mention that, I didn't think of that beforehand and as I went to place them all on their stands I realized he wasn't going to work. Thankfully both the tops of the inverted slope where the minifigs standsare hollow and the bottom of the flippers have a small hole in them the same size. So I took one of the below pieces which I knew I had spares of, cut the clip section off and then cut the remaining rod in half and stuck it in the tops of the inverted slope and stuck the flippers on that.

Simple. Small. Elegant. I love it.

So what's the verdict on keeping creator sets sealed so they go up in value once out of print? I picked up Hillside House and Lighthouse Island pretty cheaply and pondering whether I should open/build them or not.

I think it looks great, but I was hoping it was more modular style instead of a playset. Also find it weird that it comes with vampires and a Frankenstein when those already have their own playsets. Would have expected more ghosts and maybe skeletons to hide around the house.

Hmm, I'm kind of in two minds seeing it close up. It'd be easy enough to pull off the shutters etc, and maybe add a little more finessing around the edges. The hinging is quite nice I think - it wouldnt sit with other modulars anyway, so not a big deal and it gives easy access for playabilty (I can see my daughter loving it). Lots of modding opportunity - needs a tangled garden with gnarled tree for starters

Let's just think of it as a bonus entry to the modular lineup - assuming the scale is about right

Yeah, this set really should 'belong' to the ghosts. The vampire couple already have a cushy castle.

I do love all the detail on it though; there doesn't seem to be any wasted space. And, it's a +2000 piece build. Should be pretty epic.

yeah the haunted house is awesome!!!! only the interior design is kind of lacking ... also why is there no manbat in that set :( :( :(

together with the vampyre limousine and the werewolf tree that house will look fantastic

Are there any resources for alternate builds of modern Lego sets? My kid is really into the Ninjago/Hero Factory/City sets, but he is a bit to new at it to really make his own creations. He loves following the directions.

Rebrickable.com is what you want.
You enter all your sets and it can tell you what mocs (in their system) you can build.
