Those were in the first LEGO set I had, which was a Christmas gift from my parents.
I imagine the custom baseplates cost TLG a lot to manufacture, hence the move away from them.

I keep hoping that next year's space theme is some sort of classic Space revival, complete with ye olde baseplates, but with the set names we have that does not seem to be the case.

Still hoping they revive Blacktron somehow, and make it the classic yellow and black.
Kind of getting tired of saying it for ever new series that is announced, but I really dig the minifigs and the style of Chima, but half of the sets being basic Ninjago clones is a HUGE bummer.

Been trying to come up with some kind of MOC (this will be my first as an adult... made some shitty stuff as a kid of course). I have been rebuilding some old castle sets (to make a Kingdom!), so I am trying to do either a tree fort type thing for my Robin hood type figures or maybe just a small blacksmith shop to start up. Just winging it with random pieces I have. Should be suitably terrible... haha.

EDIT: Looks like they introduce a lot of the 2013 sets this episode - must watch soon!

Any idea how much it weighs? I've had to get it sent to work as Amazon (UK) send big parcels via a delivery company that has never been able to actually deliver to me and has the worst customer service you could imagine.
I'll be having to take the train some 7 stops carrying it....... I'm thinking about trashing the box at work to make it easier but I have all the boxes for my UCS's.

its not excessively heavy, and keep the box man!
a little heavier than a modular maybe.
Unbox from the shipping box and then throw the UCS box in a king size pillowcase/ 33gallon extra strong black trash bag (if you have either of those things). No one will know what you have and you can twist up the end of the bag or case and carry it over your shoulder Ryu style.
Bring some weight lifting/cycling gloves to complete the Ryu image and give your self a better grip on the bag/case.
Leave the bandanna home.

Those are my far my favourite baseplate.
I have about half a dozen of them if I remember correctly, plus one that's (sadly) cracked on one side.
edit - they're still back at my parents' place but you can see the little stack of them in one of the bins. Man my daughter had a blast poking through all my old Lego.
Also have one of those raised Blacktron baseplates, and one of the castle ones that's the same baseplate, just green.

I know, but there was that rumor last week about GE going OOP now and Fire Brigade still sticking around. Unless it is just Lego trying to drum up sales with FUD. It worked for many.
