The mini figs are dangerous. It is VERY easily to blow through a bunch of money trying to get the ones you want.

yup, thats why i will just buy complete sets from now on ;9

mind blown while putting my S8 together yesterday.

true, but.

I agree with the "but." It is a thrill to be surprised at the figure you are getting, and a thrill to find that you felt up the sack correctly to get what you wanted. But it is also a very bad feeling to keep getting the one figure you do not want any more of. (Glares at all the genies and red riding hood figures on the shelf).

i did the grobbling at the store for two series, thats enough excitement for now ;)

Fuck, I hate Lego related quandaries!

Order the B-Wing from the US for 270AUD, or wait it out here to at least see how much my local trusty supplier (shopforme.com.au) will stock it for? GAH!

I'm thinking the former, 'cause its RRP is 350AUD here, so I doubt it'll go as low as 270 straight up.

Phonciple - did you catch the pics I posted? Any tips on improvements or tweaks for what I've got so far? The water is going to be redone with blue/dark blue/white tiles and trans-blue plates and the slope needs some work. Any other suggestions?

in case the question is open for others to comment on too ;)

you might consider adding a few 1x1 bricks or tiles all over the place at odd angles. especially around the tiles.
apart from that it looks great, how old is your daughter again?

Saw the pics at work, but didnt look at them on the desktop until just now.

First reaction: dat foliage! I WANTS IT!
Second reaction: (looks as the 1x4 technic brick with THREE pins for connecting) You aren't messing around!

Looks awesome so far. I just wonder why it needed to be raised so much because it looks mostly flat. Also, I would put a few 1x1 tiles or something in there occasionally to make the dirt and grassy areas a bit more uneven. But I LOVE the foliage. Extremely jealous of that.

Ha. Beat me to it while I was typing. :)

I've been after an extra genie for my daughter, got any you're after to trade?

Is it not possible to tell the figure inside the bag from the raised bumps on bottom seal anymore? Not that it's any more fun to try and identify those than from feel, but it could help to reassure you before going and buying it!

Actually, I need to go back through and double check that. I had quite a few but think I am down to one now. Can double check in the morning. It is like 5 am here. I will try and get a list of what I have and what I need.

No worries :-)

I'll bear that in mind when I place my next BL order - I'm out of tiles and smaller bricks at the moment, so I'll add a bundle to the next lot I get.

My daughter's 9, and she's taken to LEGO like a duck to water, but she's still mainly into sets. The idea with this is that it will give her (A) somewhere to set up her sets and play with them, (B) give her an idea of what's possible beyond building to instructions, and (C) give us something to work on together as a joint project, hopefully handing off to her alone if she takes to it. The setup here shouldn't be too delicate for play, and if she knocks a few trees down she can just rebuild them and start arranging it to suit her anyway :-)

The foliage is my favourite part so far, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. It was the priciest part though, and when I look at people recreating full jungle landscapes (or building 48 square foot Endor replicas!) I shudder at the costs involved. The three pin connections are maybe a bit OTT... :-)

The original plan was to make it a brick lower, but when my daughter picked up the Pteranodon set with her pocket money, I realised I'd need to incorporate some water somewhere so I thought I'd better raise the ground level (even if it was going to be mainly flat) so I could slope it down a little to the waterline.

Definitely going to take your (and FliX's) advice on making things a bit more scrubby and uneven - thanks! And thanks for the kind words :-)

Ah, that might be an idea - I'll price up bits on BL and try that as an alternative.
Blue base plates are easily found in stores. BUT if you want to go super duper crazy, and get five blue half plates along with thousands of tan bricks (for perfect sand!) along with a few other colors; I suggest you get Tower Bridge. A MOC treasure chest of pieces.

with the added advantage of owning tower bridge* ;)

*yet to even unpack let alone build mine.

I can endorse this as well. I bought one from Walmart during the sell because my wife liked it. We started building it together, and then she got a few days off due to Hurricane Sandy and I came home from work to a completed bridge. She said "its mine." She wants to take it to her class to display.....I want to take it apart and use it for builds....Dilemma.

Fire Brigade for 185AUD, shipped.
That's pretty impressive. The Toys R Us tax kinda negates a lot of the sets, though.

Grats. Great set. Second floor is awesome. Bone would never tell you that though.....

Built the TIE Fighter that I bought when Wal-Mart had it for $35, and it's quite a nice set. The 8017 TIE Advanced still looks fine next to it, but it really makes the old 7140/7142 X-Wing look kinda crappy in comparison, so I guess I should go pick up the newer 9493 X-Wing.

Solution: buy a second Tower Bridge

You're welcome.

I never trusted those bumps, I just feel the packages for the parts instead.

For a set with over 4000 pieces, it is a monster. Then add the extra fun of no numbered bags. :)
Tempted to get another one sometime just to have one always built.

It is such a nice piece, for so many reasons. MOC, Display, Value, etc...

I just built the b-wing. What are the two orange lever looking things? They are shown in the book for the first part of the build but don't seem to be used anywhere.

With all the custom moulds they make for other characters and licenses it shits me that they were so lazy with Gandalf staff, especially that he's a reoccurring character across both LOTR and Hobbit sets. I ended up buying one of these from brickforge and stuck a clear gem in the top of it.

I wasn't impressed either, so I made a quick-and-dirty mod to the staff using 2 common elements:

It doesn't look nearly as good as the one you got from BrickForge (which I may have to pick up now), but would it hurt LEGO to include 2 pieces extra to at least give us this?

Alternatively:

even cheaper IMO
