You're in Portland, aren't you? I live in Sellwood, and I have 3 minotaurs, if you want to meet up some time for a minifig exchange. I've got some other duplicate sets I'd be willing to trade too.

Thanks, I'll definitely keep this in mind! I'm going to be out of town most of the rest of the month, but maybe I'll shoot ya a pm when I get back or something. :)

Oh shit! :O It's happening!

79005 Frodo and Ring Wraith
79006 TBA
79007 Eagles Nest
79008 Pirate Ship
79009 TBA
790xx The Betrayal of Isengard
790xx Treebeard Encounter
790xx Bridge of Khazad-dûm

I love this info you share with us!!

Is it publicly posted before you share it with us? Or are you a Lego insider? ;)

I need Bag End.

Ditto. My LEGO fever has definitely died down recently (I had so much more free time when I was unemployed!), but this set is one I am 100% picking up.

I want all of the dwarves, but I don't plan on buying all of the first batch of Hobbit sets, so I hope that bricklink has them for sale at reasonable prices (the rarer Avengers were ridiculous).

Got a little bit of extra cash, what should I get next? R2D2, Imperial Shuttle, Haunted House, Pet Shop or B-wing?

The haunted house will be gone before the Imperial Shuttle. Monster Fighters will be discontinued at the end of this year, after christmas my store will not be getting anymore in.

Interesting...

Do you think it will be like the Winter Village sets, where the Haunted House will be "re-released" next Halloween?

I am a supervisor at my Lego Store, we get notice when sets will be discontinued and when new sets are coming out.

New inside source...
So Monster Fighter's is gone after a few months, but Dino is not discontinued? Doesn't make much sense at all.

EDIT: And you are in Mass as well. Which store? I have yet to make the drive to the closest Mass store from CT.

Well, I am super grateful for the heads up on the haunted house, thanks....guess that's my next pickup. Hopefully I can still get one after black friday, won't have the cash for a few weeks...

Crazy to me that they'd kill that so quickly. Seems to be quite popular.

Seriously? Well shit. I think my Brick Friday purchase was determined for me then. Now to scrape together $200 for the Haunted House.

Oh man, or I could get Vampyre's castle AND Winter Cottage. I'm so damn indecisive.

Ugh. Can anyone shoot me a pm w/ tips on getting the Lego Minecraft set for xmas for my nephew. Why is it so impossible to find? I'm in Norcal btw.

I was hoping to have a year or so to pick up Monster Fighters. This kinda sucks. I don't even have time to build anything right now.

Yeah, I'm trying to come to peace with letting the smaller sets slip by me. Very disappointing.

Anything I really shouldn't miss? I think I just have the Vampyre Castle at this point...and Haunted House next month. I've been eyeing the Mad Scientist Lab in particular.

Hey guys, you might want to check the Christmas isle of your nearest Target. They finished setting up all the decorations and toys and I found this beauty!

There was also an empty bin for a Christmas LEGO Creator set (possibly the rocking horse or toy train announced earlier this year).

Whoa. That is sweet looking.

Possible Hobbit sets early release next week.

Also, if the release pattern follows last year, we could start seeing City, Creator, Ninjago and Chima sets all coming out within the next few weeks.

The mini batmobile is pretty sweet. Had mine sitting next to my big one for a while now. Kind of wish I though the standard batmobile now so I could have all three sizes.

As for Diagon Ally I'm certain that's a goner. Guy in the Lego shop said all Harry Potter sets have been discontinued and there was no sign of that set.

I finally put some more work into building my Lego Kingdom. I am using The Castle of Morcia as my "good guy" castle. I have that one completed. I am working on Vladek's Dark Fortress for my bad guy castle now. I am a bit more than halfway done. I have Mill Village Raid together (me buying it started this build a Kingdom thing). Going to add to the village with Medievil Market Village as my next purchase. After that hoping to build some creations of my own to sort of fill out the the Kingdom some more. I will take pictures once I have both castles done.

These were given away by The Sun here in the UK. Pretty sure I still have a couple lying around somewhere!

Finishing touches being applied to the first part of my daughter's diorama/MOC. So far, I've got one 48x48 baseplate with a bit of scrub and jungle and a dirt track, connected to a smaller 16x32 plate with a part-complete river edge. The next step is to put together a second 48x48 plate to take her Dino base. That - thankfully - should be a bit cheaper, as it's mainly a flat surface for the base to clip on to with a bit of vegetation and landscaping around the edges.

It's been pretty pricey so far, mainly for trees and vegetation, but it's turning out OK. I've managed to incorporate her Raptor, Pteranodon and Coelophysis sets into the build, using tiled areas with a couple of studs to serve as anchor points, so the whole thing should come together really well on the day.

Anyone interested in pics?

EDIT:

And any tips on a quick, cheap way to build a raised plate? The jungle baseplate slopes up on one side to the height of a BURP, and the idea is that the second plate will be raised and the HQ will sit at a higher level. Are there any big pieces that would quickly and cheaply lift the level, or is it just going to be a case of using a lot of bricks and building it up?

Thanks for joining in the thread-appreciate the heads up on the Haunted House.

Prepare to be inundated with questions like, "Is Grand Emporium really gone? And when is Winter Village Bakery being discontinued?"

Yes please.

Strange that Monster Hunters would be killed so soon and the Dino line, which nobody gave a shit about, would be allowed to continue.

Aaaaanyway:

Got a good deal on the Unimog, greatly looking forward to start my build this weekend.

Does the Haunted House fit well with the other modular buildings?

Haunted House is exactly 32 studs wide when done, so in that respect it is the same width as any modular. The issue is that on one side there are bulges from the hinge pieces to make it swing open, and those prevent it from cleanly connecting to the next side. If you build a base for it to stand on that is wider than the house itself, and use that as the connection point, it will connect with other modulars. It will just look odd with all that extra space.

It would be an interesting challenge to build the Haunted House without the hinge, but with the layered floors like other modulars though.

Yes, pics would be awesome!

And as for the raised baseplate, I had to do a raised platform to put the Haunted House on. Using slope pieces (or whatever you want visible) on the ends for support, then through the middle, use 2x2 or 2x4 bricks as interior support. I put the stacks of them at intersection points of the larger plate pieces so that both plates connected to them. Then at about the half way point of each plate there was another support.

Whenever I take apart the haunted hill I can take a pic to show. Or if you look at instructions for the Death Star, there is a similar technique used around the middle area to add height.

Just from looking at pics of the haunted house my fist thought was The Burbs with Tom Hanks. Modding the Haunted House to fit with the other modulars gives the city a creepy house at the end of the lane that all the kids are scared of.

If you make the buildings go around each other like a city block, the house could be in the middle of it all.

I'd wondered about that. There won't be anything visible at one end of the plate, as it should be hidden by the dirt/scub slope leading up so I could get away with using spare coloured blocks (or even half-a-dozen BURPs?) as a support at that end, then use the stacks you suggest throughout. I'm building each plate with a row of black bricks along each side, with Technic blocks/pins to connect each plate to the next, so they would serve as supports on the other three sides - only problem is the sheer number I'm going to need if they're going to be as tall as a BURP piece along three 48-stud lengths!

Oh yeah I forgot to post that. Found this earlier this week along with the WiiU minifigs!

That I did not see, I will need to keep my eyes peeled for that. Thanks!

Just go back a few pages and look at how I connect all the stuff for my haunted house theme. When I get home from work I will dig them up, but we are both using the same idea.

And I still want my hat back...

You Brits are so damn lucky!

Not really. It's the only way we seem to get most of these polybags. Would be nice to have the option of just buying them. Still no sign of the ghost and grandfather clock here.

Also we don't get the same generous deals as America seems to get.

Heh :-)

I'll have a nosy at your HH pics. I'd seen them, but I hadn't noted the construction - time for a closer look...
