I was hoping the Chima sets would have some pieces worth raiding, but it's not looking that way. I'll have to be content with the final run of Ninjago - and even those have had a lot of missed opportunities. The first run had the best pieces, and finding those below MSRP is becoming more and more difficult.

That train looks great. I'm afraid to buy any train though; with tracks, motors, stations, etc. it might be a faster way to waste money than collecting modulars. :|

Is that my option for Haunted House at this point? I haven't kept up with the news besides hearing it all goes oop this year. There's a Lego store here but they mark up a lot, so it might be cheaper to buy it at lego.com with shipping.

Yeah, this is why I agree with those who say it'll be back next October.

You have no idea. I did the duplo train when my kid was younger and even THAT got out of control. It's like picking up an entirely different hobby on top of your lego addiction.

That new one is mighty tempting, but trains will remain on the bottom of my wish list until I'm caught up on stuff going oop for this exact reason. ;p

This was my first train, back in the early 80's. I remember lusting after it in the Sears catalog. It wasn't motorized, but that didn't matter to a young me.

Last year I started collecting all of the "Direct" or now "Creator Expert" trains, plus any I get as part of a theme. So far I have the Emerald Night, Maersk, soon the Horizon Express, the Ghost Train and this summer probably The Constitution (part of the Lone Ranger theme).

I too picked up track during B1G1 and similar promotions. I've also picked up enough Power Functions components to power 1.5 trains, so I will likely get some more PF parts at some point. I REALLY like how seamless the PF integration looks in the Horizon.

Well I don't think TRU has it online or at stores but yesterday when I checked my app it showed up as an available item.

So I guess Amazon, Lego.com or Lego stores (or any other random stores that you know that you can get Lego Monster Fighters Haunted House) are your current choices. If I'm wrong please inform me!

How much does the Lego Store mark up the set to at your location?

I got The Zombies for 39.99 at Target today! 447 pieces! Less than .10¢ per brick!

And TRU doesn't list it in my app and Amazon is selling it for 51 bucks and change, so 40 bucks is a nice price I think.

Also, Walmart doesn't have The
Zombies either so it looks like

Lego store/.com
Amazon
Target are the places to get The Zombies!

Zombies was a Target and Lego Store exclusive. That is why there is mark up on Amazon.

The LEGO stores and S@H do not mark-up sets - they are sold at LEGO's MSRP, unless there is a sale or promo going on.

TRU is the main offender for mark-ups, with Target to a lesser extent depending on the manager's discretion. Amazon is tricky, because they do 3rd party sales, so LEGO exclusives and Direct sets will show up, but be heavily marked-up, which has nothing to do with Amazon itself.

Target has creeped up ever so slightly on some sets. BN seems to have gone up some on a few sets as well, with many still being MSRP.

Most themes usually have at least one "exclusive" set each year, with most of those going to Walmart or Target, and an occassional one to TRU. Your best bet with these is to find out (or ask here) where the exclusive is, and buy it there, or get it straight from LEGO.

Additionally, many of the "Direct" or "Creator Expert" sets are LEGO exclusive, so you won't see them from other stores unless they are 3rd party offers. However, LEGO does let some of their exclusives go out to other retailers, often after a timed period.

Yeah, I didn't think that Lego stores marked up the products; that they were all the same; but I just wondered what price the guy saw his Lego store so I could tell him wether that was normal or not.

And yes, Toys "R" Us offends us quite often. :(

Also, the more I look at the pics of past trains, the more I want them. It would be dangerous for me to get into the trains. Of course, I know I will get Horizon Express soon (all that lovely orange!), but the older trains are calling now.

There are only two if you don't go all the way back to the Santa Fe...

I want Emerald Night badly, but it's expensive :/

And most importantly, I don't have the space for any railroad setup.

I think I found one not too expensive. And for display you only need a 10cm wide shelf

Lego UK 25% off all lego except LotR which is 20%

Tower bridge for £157 compared to £210!

Not seeing this and maybe just as well.

I have a problem..... Currently on display is the USC X-Wing, R2 D2, SSD, the 3 Cuusoo sets and Fire Brigade. I've built the Imperial Shuttle and UCS B-Wing but they have nowhere to go as yet.

A shelf will solve the B-Wing issue but I've trying to decide between breaking down the Imperial Shuttle of the Fire Brigade. I can get more use out of the parts from the shuttle but it's only been built a month or so.

FB has been built for some time and although the parts are less useful I could do something with them. 1st world problems......

Buy more shelves?

But where do you put the shelves then? The issue I have as well.

I actually sold a bunch of old DVDs of mine I have not touched in six or more years, which opened up more shelves for sets to display.

An aside, but: all of my DVDs (lost count around 500-odd) have been shifted into DVD wallets, with a set of drawers lined with DVD pockets their ultimate destination. All the boxes have been packed away and sent to live in the loft. Saves a *huge* amount of space and the cases are there if I ever want to sell or display them again.

Oh if it were so simple.

In our living room we have one wall full of shelves but most of the sets I want to display are too big and the space is mostly split between mine and my wife's dvd, book and game collections.

The shelf that is due to go up above my monitors will take the SSD which frees up a window ledge so I can put the Shuttle there but the wife is not keen on not being able to open then window easily.

Lego catalog. If you have ordered from them or are a VIP, you should get it in the mail. I usually get it later than everyone else on here. And I never get the coupons in them either. :(

I just got my Late Holiday Catalog today. I usually get a coupon in mine, but there wasn't one this time.

By jove! I think I've solved it!

I believe I have solved The Case of the Mysterious Minifigures!!

At first I was perplexed by the advanced anti-peeking technology implemented by The Lego Sydicate. But fear not, for I have persevered, to my own surprise mind you; the key was to think with the light bulb above my head!

And so, here it is: the formula for discovering the true secrets of the Mysterious Minifigure bags:

Step one: acquire a 3 or 4d Led Maglite flash lite (it should be 100 or more lumens of brightness eminating from the lantern).

Step two: buy as many Minifigure packages you so desire.

Step three: use your newly-acquired or already-possessed anti anti-peeking lantern to illuminate the shapes of the specialty parts of each bag until a desired figure is discovered!

Step four: celebrate your cleverness with yourself or your friends by opening your new
Minifigure that you've been wanting for all this time!

Good day!

Blurry pic, but this is why I am not building right now. She is in a bad mood today. Think I will wait until after 8 when we feed her.

Kitty is displeased, thus will prevent me from doing any building for some time.

You kind of have like a "black" Garfield lol. I love Garfield! Your cat reminds me of the early drawings of him when he was very chubby. And yes that means I'm saying you have a chubby cat :) Not in a negative way though! ;)

Edit: and grew up with a few cats and one of them was chubbyish; name was brownie. Guess what color he was? ;)

Man I see what you guys are talking about when it comes to PF for the trains!!!

My Amazon cart is laughing at me: 148 bucks for: engine, battery, plug, remote, and remote receiever!
And that's with NO TRACKS!!!

That's not the fat kitty. She is actually about half that size. She is just incredibly fluffy. Get her wet and she shrinks down.

That seems expensive. Although I pieced together PF functions over time with technics sets, none of it is hugely expensive. Are you taking lego's advice and getting the rechargeable battery pack. You can save a small fortune just buying the one that takes aaa batteries

I've been designing my own modular in LDD based on the Medieval Market Village. Even with sourcing pieces from Log Cabin, Seaside House, and whatever loose bricks I already have, I still need to Bricklink a considerable amount of pieces.

This hobby is expensive.

Well the question is will I ever use 100 dollars worth of batteries operating this train? Because of the answer is yes than EVENTUALLY I would save money in spending 52 odd dollars on an rechargeable lithium battery pack and a 40 dollar plug!

How many hours continuous run time do you get on AAA batteries for the battery pack?

Or use rechargeable aaa batteries. Cheaper in the end.

Also would it be overkill to use the XL motor in the trains? Or do the trains not accommodate the XL motors?

And would the XL motors be too fast causing the trains to derail at maximum velocity?

And would they hyper-drain the rechargeable AAA batteries making playtime significantly shorter?

Edit: power functions battery box 15 bucks but takes 6 AA batteries. Recharging 6 is a bitch; usually chargers charge 4 batteries at a time.....

Storage dilemma put on the back burner while I build a little. Looking for inspiration and ways to advance my SNOT I found this Solar Sweeper 3V by tardisblue.

I am loving this and his other work I think this is the best Viper I have ever seen. I've been looking at the few windows I have and wanted to work in some engine grebs below and this is the perfect example of how cool it can look. Not to mention the colour scheme.

Only the emerald night uses a standard PF motor, and I think it's M, anything else won't fit (and even that sticks out a bit).

The maersk (and I assume horizon) use a set of train wheels with a motor built in.

Charge three sets of four :)

Edit: that viper is beautiful. Studs in every damn direction except on top too :)

That's why I stick with mini-modulars; much cheaper and space saving, haha.
