Excellent! You guys need to check it out, I know you already will. A funny, well acted and entertaining departure from Andersons other three films. More tragic then Tenebaums and more uplifting then Rushmore The Life Aquatic follows Murray's character Steve Zissou as he enters old age and re-examines his life. Much comedy and action ensues, lots of action. Jeff Goldblum steals the show, the movie becomes that much more hilarious when he shows up. Go see it, I don't need to convince you.

Is it closer to Rushmore or Tenebaums? I love both flicks dearly, but Rushmore is just a smidgen better than Tenebaums (which I thought was a tad over-indulgent, a la Magnolia).

I'd say more so Tenebaums, maybe just because of the larger cast. Although its pretty different from either.

also caught an advance screening of this tonight.

Tenenbaums > Rushmore

I didn't see Rushmore first, like many of you did, as that may factor into our decisions.

Not to mention that you guys don't even know the proper title. That does not bode well.

I've heard (from more than one person) that it's Anderson's worst film to date.

Oh well, I'll still be seeing it.

Worse than Bottle Rocket? Uh oh.

Also, I thought it was Tenenbaums, but I was just too lazy/apathetic to look it up.

Wow, I really liked Bottle Rocket.

I tend to like Anderson when he gets personal. That's what I liked about Bottlerocket and Rushmore. I found The Royal Tennenbaums a bit detached -- which made it's more twee traits stick out.
