Watched the whole series again last week or so. Such an amazing movie to see in the theaters and witness all of the reactions.

My favorite bit is when Frodo is lifted up by high elf queen galadrathingy. Oh, and when the Rohan charge the elephants and that shot follows them to the impact.

Too many moments to name. It's a shame the newer movies have lost a lot of the magic for me.

To my own surprise, I only cried at Sam's wedding.

What a great thing it all was. It doesn't feel anything like ten years ago, and I don't mean that in an "oh no I'm old" way. It just really doesn't.

I'm getting the Blu-Ray box set for Christmas. I haven't watched the movies in years so it's going to be a somewhat newish experience for me, especially since they are the extended versions.

10 years?
Shit I'm starting to feel old.
I kept thinking at the end it was going to end...but it kept going. (And I was sobbing through the whole ending lol)

Movie is so full of goose-bump moments/scenes. It's like one after the other, as soon as they go back down into your skin the next scene is something grander and they just pop back out fiercer than before.

;(

such a beautiful trilogy, probably the best ever. You can see the love PJ, the actors and all the others put into it. You guys have to watch the documentaries on the SEE editions.

My review is due next week, FOTR on christmas eve, TTT on christmas day and ROTK on boxing day.

Best films ever. Can't believe it's been ten years...

People who complain about the ending(s) are heartless bastards.

I watched the trilogy again last month, and it is still amazing as ever. So many scenes gave me goose bumps and the feels. That feeling deep down of suppressing tears. I failed to suppress them a few times.

I really like the ending and don't think it's drawn out at all. I just didn't want my time with this amazing world and these characters to end.

I've never read the books, even though I've the complete collection as a gift from 10 years ago (including all the short stories).

But now I've re-kindled my interest in the Lord of the Rings, and have been reading the Wiki pages of the entire lore, and it's utterly incredible! To think that this entire movie series only takes place in what is called the "Third Age" is pretty fascinating. I'd love to see more on how Sauron came to be, and the creation of the rings, and corruption of the original 9 Kings of men (who then became the ringwraiths).

The most epic of battles ended the First Age, when Sauron was a powerful lieutenant of Morgoth who ruled with an iron fist and had an ultimate weapon: A dragon of shear size that even its wings could blot out the sun. Smaug was badass, but he's a little wooden puppet compared to Ancalagon The Black.

As for the human element, the story could start with Beren a human hero whose romance with the Elf maiden Lúthien became the catalyst of this entire saga. To point out how much of a central part it takes in the Legendarium, JRR Tolkien and his wife had the name's "Berren" and "Lúthien" written on their tombstones... how romantic!

But seriously, an entirely new trilogy based on Morgoth's defeat with Sauron's rise and fall, would be just swell...

I always have to mention this when LotR comes up, i really like these movies, but i absolutely LOVE the making of. I'd never thought that a making of (extendet cut blu ray) could be more intersting than the movie it is about (not mocking the movie, as i said i like them very much)

GOAT. I most certainly cried the first time I watched it in the cinema. Beautiful, monumental film. I can't imagine another as awe-inducing movie to ever come in the future, damn.

So, tell me this: Why didn't the eagles just carry the ring into mordor?

-Fell beasts with Nazgul riders
-An army of crows
-A wizard in a nearby tower who could fling lightning bolts
-The ring only makes it into the volcano because Sauron isn't expecting a a bunch of tiny hobbits to carry it in. A bunch of giant eagles are hard to miss when you can see everything for miles and miles from your giant tower.
-What if the Eagles were tempted by the ring?

From the Wikipedia article on Mouth of Sauron:
After Jackson rejected the idea of turning the mouth sideways to appear vertical on the face, the designers came up with the idea of rendering it twice as large as the original.
The extended DVD cast commentary mentions that Jackson considered different depictions of the character, such as having Kate Winslet (who starred in Heavenly Creatures, another Jackson film) play the role, partially to emphasise the temptations Aragorn was facing.
Further, his lips are cracked and blackened, with rotting teeth, to hint that Sauron's very words are so evil that simply repeating them causes his mouth to decay.
According to designer Walter Mahy, the original design for the Mouth of Sauron's costume had the helmet hooked directly into the mouth, pulling it permanently open. This did not work out as it made it impossible for the actor to speak.
lololol

I only remember being disappointed by it. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time but I just felt like I didn't have a satisfying experience.

Can someone remind me why seeing this made Faramir change his mind and let Frodo simply walk into Nazgûl-land?
It was Sam's speech that made him change his mind and the warning that it was the Ring that caused his brother's demise and it would never help Gondor defeat Sauron. After that they immediately get attacked by the Nazgul.

Yeah something like, "It drove your brother mad, he tried to take the ring from Frodo."

True, but I still don't understand how Faramir could consider the hobbits capable of completing their mission after that scene.

"My friends, you bow to no one"

tears, so many tears.

This thread makes me wanna rewatch the entire EE series.

Can someone remind me why seeing this made Faramir change his mind and let Frodo simply walk into Nazgûl-land?

He heard what the ring did to Boromir, and realized it was the better thing to do than give it to his dad to be corrupted and let Minis Tirith fall from it.

I'm re-watching the extended editions now. Only got ROTK left. My favorite movie trilogy and a huge part of my childhood. And I can't help but cry everytime I see the "you bow to no one" scene.

Also, I'm glad the ending is so long. If I watch something for 10 hours I better get a nice conclusion so I don't feel cheated. Compare it to what Harry Potter did which just fucking ended.
