Too bad the Mouth of Sauron was cut from the theatrical version.
It was a neat little role for Bruce Spence (aka the Gyro Pilot from The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome).
It just blows me away that these films were even made in the capacity that they were.
I mean, Jackson was mostly known for making quirky, shlocky films (i.e. Bad Taste, Dead Alive, Meet the Feebles)- and New Line had the balls to allow him to control this unbelievably ambitious production. Also, sword/sorcery big budget fantasy films weren't exactly in high demand.
Not only did he pull it off, but from all accounts it was an amazingly loving production from every element. So much unity, passion, and respect.
It's got to be one of the most amazing success stories in the industry.
