STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
True, but it's never mentioned in the movies. So for the movies, it seems out of place, it should never be mandatory to know the books for such HUGE details. That's one of the few fails of the movies.

It's simple. Sauron has Nazgul on giant flying beasts; do you really want to take the One Ring into a dogfight over Mordor?

One of the greatest films of all time. Just one question that bothers me though, why didn't the eagles that appeared at the end took the ring to Mordor since the beginning???

Edit: lol the question was already posted. Still, why tho?

Because they'd be massacred. Think about it.

People already answered that question multiple times in the last page.

The one thing I can never forgive is what Jackson did to Faramir. He was supposed to represent the last glimmer of morality in humanity. Instead, Jackson turned him into a little shit.

That thing with Faramir is the same thing I always say when I'm talking about the trilogy.

Gandalf Use it's shining light staff. Win. Wait, they also didn't explain why Gandalf could not fight with all his powers.

Easily my favorite movie of all time. Saw it three times in theaters and loved it (and cried like a bitch) every time.

Too bad the Mouth of Sauron was cut from the theatrical version.
It was a neat little role for Bruce Spence (aka the Gyro Pilot from The Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome).

It just blows me away that these films were even made in the capacity that they were.
I mean, Jackson was mostly known for making quirky, shlocky films (i.e. Bad Taste, Dead Alive, Meet the Feebles)- and New Line had the balls to allow him to control this unbelievably ambitious production. Also, sword/sorcery big budget fantasy films weren't exactly in high demand.
Not only did he pull it off, but from all accounts it was an amazingly loving production from every element. So much unity, passion, and respect.

It's got to be one of the most amazing success stories in the industry.

It's not even remotely funny anymore.

I remember turning in my final papers for school early, doing all my finals in the morning, and heading to the theater around 1PM with my best friend. We got some candy at a gas station, then headed to the theater (we had bought our tickets days in advance).

Wound up seeing it four times within the span of about a month. In hindsight it was rather flawed but is still a good movie.

By all accounts it should never have worked, but it did.

All topped off by the 11 Oscar wins in 2004.

Pippin: I didn't think it would end this way.

Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path... One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it.

Pippin: What? Gandalf?... See what?

Gandalf: White shores... and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.

Pippin: Well, that isn't so bad.

Gandalf: No... No it isn't.

Now I want the E3 gif of this.

I just watched this the other day and I still cried at the ending in Gondor and then at the Grey Havens.

Also, Gandalf's talk with Pippin about death is still one if my absolute favorite quotes of all time. Such a great view on the afterlife.

didn't various companies (i.e. WB, Disney, etc.) turn down the rights to produce these films, assuming it would be a financial disaster?
Or am I thinking of the Harry Potter license?

No you're right. Not sure which company it was, but I'm sure they wanted 1 movie, then were persuaded to allow them to make two.

It was only when they went to New Line that New Line said it was obvious that three films were needed.

Cmon man, this movie is jam packed full of CG sequences. I remember the EE they said it had something like triple the effects shots of Fellowship.

I have no issues with movies using CG, but when an entire movie relies on them and they're the shittiest CG you can produce, it's pretty saddening. Enough talk about CG and more talk about the make up and costumes!

I can get down with that. Has everyone seen the OG witch king design? Glad they changed it.

I like you.
I came in here to post that very piece of dialogue. Good on you.

Has it been that long all ready? My god i feel old now. But i have the blu ray extended editions. I found that all 6 appendixes are sublime going in so mutch detail how all movies where made and showing everything a whole documentary. I mean that's almost 20+ hours worth of documentary alone next to the movies.

Because throwing around magical powers isn't something Gandalf says. He says it in the first movie "Do not take me for some conjurer of cheap tricks!" Being a wizard in LOTR is everybit as much about being a wise man as it is about being a magician. Also there's kind of that whole theme about how Mankind needs to learn to do things for itself in the whole movie, and using magic to solve humanity's problems defeats the point.

True, but it's never mentioned in the movies. So for the movies, it seems out of place, it should never be mandatory to know the books for such HUGE details. That's one of the few fails of the movies.

The first movie has Sauron send an army of crows after the Fellowship. Dude had armies in the sky. In the first movie. The eagles is a stupid point that people keep asking without taking ten seconds to think it through. Sauron had total dominion over the skies. The crows would've seen the Eagles coming, and then Sauron would've unleashed any and every fell beasts he had, and they'd've fought the Eagles and the ring would've made its jump out of Eagle hands right over the borders of Mordor, which were patrolled by Orcs, Southrons and Haradrim.

"I'm glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things."

That line always gets me. I watched it again to commemorate the anniversary. The whole trilogy is a cinematic masterpiece.

Dead

well not really...yet
It's impossible not to shed at least a tear during the ending.

GOATest movie trilogy of all

I remember getting to this point in the game and wondering why the heck the Witch King looked so different. His revised design is much better.

The RotK game is still one of the best movie tie-in games to date; which is shocking when you factor in that they had about a year to make it. I still hate the walls of Minus Tirith level with a passion, but by and large it was a great time - especially co-op.

I love the "oh shit" looks on the orcs' faces when the reinforcements from Rohan charge at them. That whole scene was just great. The arrival, the speech, the charge, everything.

I need to gather my friends, so we can have a gigantic LOTR watch party. So many great memories of this franchise. Reseeing these films on the big screen was a phenomenal experience.

I'll be completely honest - I can't do marathon viewings of the films anymore, at least not without taking extended breaks. I obviously love them to death, but I just get antsy after sitting down for three hours straight - I have to get up and move around :lol

I also am unable to do marathons anymore, if it is by myself. With friends, I have a shot of being successful. The last marathon I did was with with a few Gaffers and attacked the Star Wars franchise. Now that was a loooooooong day.

One of the best movies ever, and also one of the best movie to video games ever. Return of the King on the ps2 was a god-tier game.
