Not really. EAs press conferences have almost always been amongst the worst and I have always been disappointed every time I had even a *little* hope that I could walk away excited. Heck, even with low expectations I end up disappointed. But then again, I am just not a fan of EA and how they try to make every game appeal to the "dude bro" audience. They rarely if ever have any legitimate surprises.

I am, however, very ,much looking forward to Bethesda's press conference as they hit a home run last year.
Heh, not sure why you focused on EA the publisher. Couldn't care less about them, "dudebros" or surprises. Andromeda's getting a motherfucking blowout.

How often do does the ME3 DLC go on sale? I want to do another playthrough but this time I want the full experience. I know I need to buy From Ashes and Citadel at the very least (I'm still livid that I need to buy From Ashes), and then there's the other two packs that I would like to get. Problem is I'm broke atm so I'll have to wait until there's a sale (and even then it's doubtful I'll be able to get them all).

Is DLC sales even a thing?

Depends on platform. On consoles, they go on sale regularly. Basically multiple times a year.

On PC, I believe only once? Basically assume never.

Mercifully the DAI DLC goes on sale fairly regularly. That plus the bundled nature of the GOTY edition means Andromeda will go down the same route of not fucking us sideways.

It'd better, Shinobi. If it's not, I'm coming for you with a righteous fury.

This. I'm gonna post every Newman gif I can find.

I'll be committing sudoku.

they showed a lot of Me2 during e3 2009 didn't they?

Can't wait to hear what Andromeda's soundtrack will be like. Hope it has lots of Sam Hulick.

I personally don't really care who make the music, as long as it sounds like most of ME1 soundtrack, i'll be happy. It's usually better and more unforgettable than ME2 and ME3 soundtrack, which, other than a few exceptions(Suicide mission, Illusive Man theme, Mars, ME3 ending music, and few others), I can't seem to remember most of it even though I played the games so many times I lost count.

IMO, ME1's soundtrack pretty unremarkable versus the highlights in 2 and 3- especially for when it's used, Suicide Mission kicking it was hype as fuck. Though I never liked ME1's theme in the first place.

I much prefer Mass Effect 2s soundtrack to be honest. Whilst I love Uncharted worlds and From the Wreckage, I find a lot of ME1s music only worked in the actual game at the time, and doesn't play well outside of it. Whereas ME2 I can happily just listen to anytime.

Personal preference of course - both games had amazing soundtracks overall. I must also begrudgingly admit that the Clint Mansell music for ME3 is really good as well, even if it does give me horrendous flashbacks to the ending sequence.

I'm with you there. I mentioned Hulick because he's responsible for a lot of my favourite tracks from ME1.

unfortunately don't remember much of Me1's soundtrack. Me2 was great and sometimes just average imo

You don't remember Spectre Induction, Sovereign, Citadel, or Vigil even? :O

All I remember from ME2 is the suicide mission (and variations thereof).

Anyways. :p

ME1 has the best soundtrack, but I honestly think Mars is my favorite track of any of the games.

I honestly think I'm the only person who's not madly in love with Suicide Mission. It's one of the best tracks for ME2, but ME2's soundtrack was super forgettable so that's not saying much.

There's a reason that ME3 recycled so much of the ME1 soundtrack.

Mars was like a hybrid mix of the ME1 and ME2 soundtrack. Outside of combat, you had that relaxing synth sci-fi music, and during combat, you had that "epic", hollywood style, music going on.

Favorite piece of Mass Effect music: There are too many good ones to choose, but Prothean Beacon doesn't get enough mention.

There has been a lot of great guest collaboration on the ME soundtrack. The 80s synth has been really enjoyable throughout the series and choosing Faunts to top off two of the three games was an excellent choice. The very brief rumor that Cliff Martinez would be involved with Mass Effect was fun. Hearing that Clint Mansell would be contributing to ME3 was fantastic, but it ended up being a missed opportunity.

However, this would be an opportune time to try out a new direction with the soundtrack. I totally wouldn't mind something a little more Old Western like Johnny Cash. Just try to stay away from the orchestra if at all possible.

Please for all that is holy, do not use the western stuff.

That music just does not have the resonance outside the States, and it was terrible in the trailer they did. I really, really wouldn't want that as the soundtrack to a Mass Effect game, it would feel completely wrong for the series in every respect.

I only got to play Me1 once since it took forever to get on playstation. but i'm guessing vigil is the menu theme/the theme that generally plays that's supposed just be one of the calmer ones? at the end of the horizon battle at Me2 when ashley comes to you as well as when liara visits the normandy sr2 and the end of the tuchanka mission in Me3?

They're not going to do a whole soundtrack of it, but I wouldn't mind a nod to Johnny Cash here and there.

I mean, I get that that kind of sound isn't going to be as big a deal outside of the States, but c'mon. It's the Man in Black.

Yeah that's the one.

One of my favorite is the one that plays in all 3 games while navigating the galaxy. I've even put it as my ringtone.

Seeing people get worked up about the music in the trailer was the best.

The series went completely wrong with the series. I don't know why music has to be source specific, but if western is too niche then Reggaeton is a good second choice.

I'd prefer they stay away from all contemporary music genres, and stick with the ME1 formula = more synth and ambient space sounds, less cheap "emotional" piano feels à la ME3. That said, ME3 did many things right by evolving some of the synth sounds from the previous games, and in album form it's definitely the most coherent ost of the trilogy. Orchestral pieces work in the epic moments of the game, but are not necessary (think of the Citadel scenes in ME1). ME2 had most of these, and it's probably the weakes score of the three, at least if you don't count the additional music such as the great club music. I'm worried that ME:A might make the same mistake that Halo 5 did, by only having boring and indistinct orchestral music.

My favourite original tracks from each game:

ME1: Noveria
ME2: Charges of Treason
ME3: Creation

I doubt there will be any western tracks. Maybe one. The reason they used that for the Andromeda reveal was 1. to highlight the frontier feeling Andromeda will have and 2. the song is called Ghost Riders in the Sky, and the main character's name is apparently Ryder.

On the topic of music: I thought ME1's soundtrack had a few great tracks like Vigil, and the rest was a mostly forgettable synth slush. I absolutely fucking hated that one track that plays when you're exploring, I don't know the name of it.

ME3's mix of classical instrumental music and synth tracks might not work in every ME game, but thus far it's produced my favorite soundtrack of the series, by far.

I bought ME1 on Origin a long time ago.

The ME Trilogy on Origin is cheaper than buying 2 and 3 separately. If I bought the Trilogy, could I still import my existing ME1 Shepard or does the Trilogy version not recognize separate ME1 saves?

Also if I bought the Trilogy would it let me download/install 2 and 3 without having to download 1 all over again?

I'm not sure about PC, but the Trilogy on consoles really is just the 3 games bundled together, instead of something like the MGS HD Collection or Kingdom Hearts which is put on one disc with a new start screen and everything. Accordingly, I'd be very surprised if PC was not similar and your ME1 save didn't work.

Should be fine. I've been able to go cross platform with saves.

Oh yeah, one of my favorite tracks. Orchestra meet synth. Synth meet orchestra.
Also meet Bladerunner credits and Dune.
Battle Therum

Well they could ride Dune a little harder if they want to go full orchestra. Would be better if they pushed cheesy electric guitar. Dune meets Flash Gordon next.
All right. I'm back on board with the orchestra.

Oh yeah Battle Therum. Pretty nice mix of orchestra & synth.

This and Mars are the perfect mix of that.

Yeah, Mars definitely had the greatest music in the entire trilogy.

Mass Effect 1 had some excellent tunes: Vigil, Sovereign's Theme, Uncharted Worlds, the Ilos battle theme, and the epic orchestra/synth stuff during the game's finale.

Mass Effect 2 has some really memorable stuff for me too, though. Suicide Mission, obviously, but the remixed Uncharted Worlds is great too. Reflections is great. Jacob's theme has some great parts, Tali's theme is excellent. The Collector Base music is intense.

Next to Mars, there's some other good shit in Mass Effect 3. An End, Once and For All obviously. Controversial though the scene may be, 'Wake Up' is still an incredibly haunting piece of music.

I honestly can't remember any of ME3's music.

Plenty of remeberable stuff in both ME1 and 2 though. The amount of playthroughs might have something to do with that though.

I thought ME3 moved away from the electronic stuff too much.

To me ME2 hit the balance between electronic and orchestral perfectly.

Played ME1 back in 2009. Couldn't really get into it (only at Eden Prime lol) but then I watched my sister play and get to the Citadel, and I wanted in so bad. It was magical. Wish I could play over like it was the first time.

So much I've seen and read about Andromeda makes it seem like the true sequel to ME1. I really can't wait.

Yeah that's the one.
that was good for the original trilogy. it was teased at the end of the Me4 trailer but I'd rather they ditched it for a new version of it, not like a remix but like a sequel or similar concept of sort.

uncharted worlds, yeah. i used to have that as my alarm for ceri during ramadan last year. and the year before it, I think

how so? I didn't have a choice anyway. Me2 was my entry, first exposure to ME, and I fell in love with the series ever since.

Because ME2 had technical efficiencies due to coming out years after, but those goodies are heavily tied to its dramatic increase in linearity and action-based overzealous grit slide so its a predictable train of thought that someone who started in the middle of the trilogy finds it and the conclusion to be better games. Meanwhile, many who started the series before ME2 was released were focused on and most pleased by ME1 all the way through the trilogy's releases.

ME2 is far from the vision marketed and presented by ME1, not just in that it lost the scale in gameplay and the meditative, exploration heavy universe. ME2 has a lot to love, I think its masterful, but I don't think it hits the high bar set by ME1 creatively, particularly in terms of the sense of place and the classic sci-fi astronaut film inspiration. The "spectacular new vision of the future" softly spoken of by Casey Hudson prior to ME1 and presented by the game itself was notably moodier than the tone of ME2 and 3.

Me1 was a great game, I think the campaign was better since it was more story driven; obviously Me2 was story driven but it was really side story driven and I didn't like that the game relied on you to do all the side quests to make it feel like that's the way to play the game. there were only like 5 missions top that were part of the main story. i'm not disagreeing with you here...perhaps you were right, and if EA were to remaster the series (sigh...here we go again then I'd have incentive to play through it again and more, and even do a full trilogy run.

but as it stands now, Mass Effect 2 is the one that changed my life.

You could do what I do: Convince yourself they don't exist. As much as I love the series, I have this false sense of principle that I can't and just won't spend $60+ just on DLC for a 4 year old game.

The whole setup is a travesty. I was such a huge fan of Mass Effect but this DLC bullshit has sullied what would of been one of my most favorite gaming series ever. I can't fucking believe they locked away that Prothean character behind day 1 DLC - talk about giving the middle finger to your fans. The fact that they haven't lowered the price of the DLC yet just proves how much they think their fans will splurge on it no matter what - well fuuuuuck you EA and Bioware.

Well put. I played ME1 only after ME2 was already out, but nevertheless in the correct order. Ranking the first two games is difficult for me, but the differences are clear.

And man, that E3 2006 trailer is still awesome. I might not agree with Casey Hudson's decisions on the franchise, but he's got a perfect voice for a presentation like that. That video has some great music too that hasn't appeared on the soundtracks.

I really don't like this train of thought. When did / why do games lose all value when they hit some arbitrary age?

When they became more expensive than all 3 games combined.

edit: There's really no way around this. Individual ME3 DLC missions rivaling the entire trilogy in price is straight up shit value.
