I would buy a Mass Effect Collection for ps4 without a blink, even though i already finished the 3 games.

I think im having withdraw symptons by not playing Mass Effect for so long.
I'd like to do a full blown run through with all the DLC installed. I'm just lost on who I'd romance though!

I would love to see a remastered Mass Effect Trilogy collection! Retooled, touched up and polished on the new hardware would be amazing. A full 1080p HD image would nice and crisp and clear, better textures, shaders and lighting all round would be crucial. Plus having all the pre-order bonuses, alternate appearance packs, weapon packs, the major DLC's, that stupid exclusive Dr. Pepper gear for ME2, the Kingdoms of Amalur DLC everything, every last piece DLC completely and seamlessly integrated right into the game would be amazing, all together all on one blu-ray disc would be phenomenal.

Plus just like in ME1 on 360 having the ability to turn off specific post-processing effects would be awesome. That was the first thing I did, was to turn off Film Grain and Motion Blur, which really surprised me considering you could actually do that on console. It would be really nice too if like the Last of Us: Remastered there was a 60 FPS or 30 FPS option where 30 FPS would maybe have better AA or some fancy effects like tessellation or some parallax occlusion mapping like in Thief where it adds more depth and 3D structure to the textures (provided the consoles can handle it). But having 2 options like that would be sweet. Lastly full controller support on PC is an absolute must have feature, can't stress that one enough.

With all that it would be without a doubt a day one purchase for me.

Yeah, I noticed it performed better when I turned these off. It's a shame Digital Foundry (or any other site) didn't do a comparison to see how much it helps the frame rate.

I would have put money on a remaster being announced today and released in March.

Give me something to play until Batman in June.

Couple more things I just thought of:

Do some extra mo-cap to fix Femshep's "man walk."
.

Yes... this would be great actually - maybe just steal Dragon Age's new walk if that easier.

Also thought of a couple other things:

ME3 Multiplayer + All MP DLC
Inclusion of the concept art/teaser for ME4

Aaryn... you now have me hyped on this, and just after I finished another trilogy run (that is how deep my Citadel feels run).

Oh yeah, and UI changes to Mass Effect 1. It shouldn't be too hard to mess with that. The combat UI in PC ME1 is actually great. It's just the menus that are a pain. Basically ME1's UI needs to feel like a standard party-based RPG UI. Even the Dragon Age UI would probably be an improvement. For starters let me check and compare everyone's equipment when buying new gear, that includes what I have in storage. ME2's planet scanning should be sped up in a remaster.

But mainly, I just want to see what Mass Effect looks like with actual anti aliasing.

If they are going to do a collection I hope it isn't a simple port of the trilogy pack we got a couple of years ago. All on one disc would be nice if possible, all new menu like the Master Chief Collection where you can pick what game you want to play and some extras including interviews and maybe a documentary done in a retrospective style, discussing the series and maybe how the reaction to the ending affected them. (Maybe a brief vid doc on the upcoming game too)

As someone who has yet to play the Mass Effect Trilogy, my biggest thing is having the entire trilogy plus a possible 4th entry on one single next gen console such as PS4 or XB1. Not keen on Origin, I don't have a 360, and the PS3 versions are not quite as smooth running.

The thing I'd love to hear from people is what you'd like to have in such an experience. For me (personal opinion, and based on what people have told me many times before):

- 1080p
- 60 fps
- High res textures, especially on ME1
- Some shader improvements commensurate with newer GPUs
- All the DLC
- "Seamless experience" - the adventures flow into each other without having to go back to save import, menu screens, etc.

Agree / disagree? What else?

Bear in mind this is a "wish list" at this point...

I'm not sure how feasible this is but something I always thought would be really fun in Mass Effect is

  • Drop-in/dDrop-out CoOp
  • Squadmate control options

Having a friend take control of a squad mate online would be an absolute blast. Hell Id love to play as some of the characters myself too (Grunt, Thane, Wrex, Samara, Legion). Not sure how possible it'd be to implement but adding a system similar to that of Dragon Age: Inquisition where the player can directly control any party member in combat would certainly add a lot to the games replayability!

Squadmate control was originally in the game (just like in Kotor on the original Xbox), but they took it out.

Get the story and character continuation between all three to be seamless. Get rid of the planet exploring bit (just a time waster). Fix the driving of the Mako so its fun to drive. I would not mind adding some prequel stuff to help flush out the initial character choices, even a good open cinematic that provides some history. Maybe some additional content along the way to help clean up the story here and there. Integrated all the DLC into the package. A nice collectors edition with a decent model of the ship and hard cover of all the graphic novels and books. I am not a fan of the art books, others maybe are but I never look at them. Books with more context on the world is another story.

Forget the consoles...just get it to work on PC. :)

Sadly so far this type of epic RPG set in a scifi setting is missing. Destiny should have been it but its not.

Oh and can you have ready for me by this Christmas...Thanks! :)

Oh cool I never knew that. Wonder how hard it would be to reincorporate it for a remastered trilogy. Did they ever say why they removed it? I've always wondered why it wasn't there since its a staple of pretty much every other party based Bioware RPG.

I think it was simply time and money. Co-op play does make sense for this game. You could see both as story mode and competitive mode where you have leader boards for how fast or accomplishments doing parts of the game. I don't think I would use it but I am sure others would like it.

ME1 changed a lot during development, I made a thread on it a while back (/ShamelessSelfPromotion). I'm not sure why they changed it, I've heard it was because they wanted to focus on Shepard, but that has always sounded like a fake excuse to me. I wouldn't expect it to implemented in any port, ME1 played pretty differently back then. They didn't even have the power wheel in until pretty late in development.

Just beat the Citadel DLC, wish more games had things like that. Seeing everyone
lying around with a massive hangover
was fun to watch, gonna miss interacting with everyone on the team. Can't wait to hear more concrete stuff about ME4.

But it seems like they already had it built into the game if that gameplay demo video is indeed legit. It had to be a gameplay decision of some kind. Either way online CoOp has been my biggest wish for this series since I first played Mass Effect 1. It's pretty much my biggest wish for all the Bioware Party based RPGs (including Dragon Age) and if it were added it would instantly make the games infinitely replayable and a LOT more fun.

But at the very least I think direct squad control would add significant replay value as well. There are just so many incredible characters in your squad I found myself wanting to try them all out and get a feel for their unique combat abilities. The fact that it's something I ached for throughout my playthrough of the games is just a testament to Bioware's character building and I seriously hope they consider adding it to any remaster trilogy they might make.

Frankly I was surprised nobody else mentioned it as I was reading through the thread. I figured it would be one of the first things people would ask for. Whenever I've talked to friends about he game and what they hope is improved upon with the sequels these are always at the very top of he list for damn near everyone. I think it would certainly sell a lot of copies for Bioware if they add both or either of them.

No no don't say that. I would hope that other remasters take a pint or two from the GTAV remaster and add gameplay functionality (first person) as it's obvious that has a massively beneficial effect on hype and sales potential. I saw say if they were to add Squad control or Online CoOp the hype for the remasters would be through the roof especially since there are so few CoOp games available for PS4/XB1 so far.

Oh and awesome thread btw. Really fascinating stuff. The Galaxy map in particular is pretty amazing. Wish they hadn't changed it so much for release. Thanks for the link!

VERY Hyped for a new Mass Effect game especially since there is a new head writer. That said...what I would want in a remaster of the 3 games for next gen consoles that has yet to be said. How about an option to get rid of the Starchild and play the Citadel DLC as the LAST mission with dialogue to support THIS ending?

Think I'd rather have them go back to the dark energy issue and finish that train of thought...

2.c) Mac Walters mentioned the theme of "Organics and Synthetics" in today's stream. It sent a breeze of cold air over my body. Did he not pick up ANY crisitism of ME3's ending at all? If ME4's main focus is that conflict, fine... just don't revert it in the final 10 minutes of the story for some meaningless artistic statement that doesn't really connect to anything in reality, and then needlessly sacrifice our protagonist for a cause he was never fighting for.
I think you may have misheard what he said? He wasn't referencing that being the focal point (or even a theme) in the new game. He was commenting that as a team they've tackled "big ideas, really big ideas" like in the "original trilogy whether it was organics vs synthetics", all his words. He was just looking back to the past...

I'm excited to see them bring it back. I think there's a lot of enjoyment from the series. I've been at each launch and it has been a journey to be honest. I recently picked up the art book on my Kindle and a small replica of the SR1 Normandy.

IMG_0544.jpg

I want to go back to a time where a world opened up. ME was the closest thing to a new universe as Star Wars. In the last couple years the hype has some what gone away, but I get that feeling that it could come back strong.

What gets me is that the original minds of BioWare have left, so there's a heavy burden IMO. I have no doubt in my mind that the next entry will be good. It's just going to take a while. When the journalist throw this "an end to an era" I get kind of sad. It makes you feel like it'll be something completely different. I think they're creatively talented, but I'm just saying it to just say it.

^Normandy SR-1 is one of my favourite sci-fi spaceship designs ever. That hot rod look, and the way the wing/fin bits fold up when it goes FTL are just so cool. The SR-2 was neat inside, but it just looked like a big whale of a thing compared to the svelte little SR-1.

Alright, here's my (semi-)realistic wish list for a trilogy port.

General
  • Resolution/Frame rate improvements
  • Unified Menu like in Master Chief Collection
  • All DLC (excluding Pinnacle Station for obvious reasons)
  • Universal Codex (a codex that is on the main menu and includes every entry from the series)
  • Choice Editor (For people who want to jump ahead, or replay a game differently. They had the comics for PS3 and Wii U owners, but those weren't very robust)
  • "Seamless experience" - the adventures flow into each other without having to go back to save import, menu screens, etc." Maybe have the credit sequence at the end of ME3 instead of one after each game? Would be one long list with everyone from BioWare, EA, Microsoft, Demigure, Edge of Reality, and anyone else who worked on the series.
  • Extras, like a concept art gallery

ME1
  • Change the achievements. ME1 did a cool thing where you could unlock bonus powers, stat boosts, and Xbox Live gamer pics by unlocking the achievements, but the majority of them took forever to unlock, and had vague terms ("Playthrough the majority of the game using this squadmate")
  • Alter the control layout. You press X or tap RT to draw your weapon, press B to holster it, and you have to press the Back button to throw a grenade. You know something's wrong when you're using the Back button for combat. Why not have put both holster and draw on B, and grenade on X?
  • More save slots. ME1 only let you have 10.
  • Add back the ability to sprint outside of combat. This used to be in the game, but for some reason they removed it. Holding down A outside of combat will just make the camera go closer.
  • A new inventory UI, or at least make some fixes to the old one.
  • Quest indicators on the galaxy map.

ME2
  • When you don't have a weapon out, the camera should be zoomed out a bit more. This applies to ME3 too.
  • Faster mineral scanning.
  • Include all pre-order/Dr.Pepper weapons and armor

ME3
  • Fix the journal. It was fine in ME1 and 2; I don't even know why they changed it in the first place.
  • Let us holster. It was removed due to console memory limitations (sounds like the PS3 in particular), but that shouldn't be a problem now.

Wish list for the remake:

Mandatory:
- all dlc, integrated seamlessly in the games. No downloadable codes. No installation required at the start of the game, like it happened with Bring down the sky.
- Mass Effect 3 multiplayer as an individual entry. Warframe and Destiny keep making money out of ideas you guys at Bioware came up with: the packs, the factions, the structure.
Restore weekly events for a year at least, or until the new Mass Effect hits.
The ideal solution would be to release it as stand-alone and free to play, or a travesty free-to-play release: ever heard about that thing, EA Access?.
Mass Effect has become a brand, it won't be kept alive by shitty comic books and cheesy animes. You are pretty much leaving all the work to keep the brand alive to the fans.
- THE OPTION TO SHEATE WEAPONS IN MASS EFFECT 3 WHILE EXPLORING.

Expected, but irrelevant to me:
- 1080p, 60 frames.
- additional visual effects.

Would love if:
- developer commentary would be added.
- additional maps for the MP. Just a token, a tribute to ME 1 and ME 2 like an Ilos map and an Omega map. Two maps, nothing fancy.
- an optional mode which adapts the gameplay of Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 to Mass Effect 3 gameplay and skill trees/ability perks (THE MP side of ME 3). I know it would be asking too much, but at least let people use sabotage or adrenaline rush the way they are designed in ME 3.
- three player co-op for all three games. I mean, think about it: if you let people co-op with friends, no one will complain too much if you leave that shitty AI you had for ME 1 and ME 3 ;D
- animated extend cut for the ending of Mass Effect 3 instead of artwork. Doesn't matter if it's CGI or in-game engine.
- artbooks and soundtracks for all three games.

Hello,

How about more exploration in Mass Effect 3. In the ones before it you could walk around places and do things. In Mass Effect 3 that was taken out. The world just seems bigger when you can freely explore.

Also I know other people said it and I am pretty sure it is not going to happen .But do something with the Star Child. It is just something that just sticks out like a red thumb. Just when you think about your Character could have been raised on a world were everyone he new and love were taken by Slavers, or s/he could have lost a group of people under him or her.S/he could have even lost some good friends along the way . Yet your Character is thinking about the ONE kid that s/he didn't know. It just doesn't add up. It is not like in MASH, when Hawkeye's actions led to the death of a baby. Now if that was the case I could understand it. But this kid ran away and then held everyone up from leaving .. and getting everyone else in the escape pod blown up. It just seems like something odd to keep coming back to. The players don't care about this kid , since we never had time to get emotionally connected to him.

Thank you
JBS

I think I posted this here before but I desperately want a Spin-off set exclusively on the Citadel. ME1, ME2: Shadowbroker DLC and ME3 showed glimpses of how glorious it would be for us to have an open world/hub game set on the Citadel. Fill it with hundreds of quests filled with fighting, moral ambiguity, mystery, intrigue etc etc and you have a huge hit on your hands. If motivation is needed then you could be a C-Sec investigator. Come on Bioware....

A little late to the party but all of the above sounds great and to add to what you mentioned.

Save import from previous gen:- So you can import your Shep from ages ago and to save having to go through 2 playthroughs of ME1 to get a beefy level 60 character.

Voice controls from 3 across all titles:- The Kinect integration in 3 was a nice little added bonus. Though I would imagine this wouldn't be that viable on PS4 or PC.

Controller support on PC:- That's assuming a hypothetical 'remaster' would come to PC as one thing that is often request is controller support.

Making of materials:- Either the documentaries you've had on the Special Editions, The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3, various bits of concept art or a Directors Commentary type thing.

Swanky Collectors Edition:- To selfishly go with all my others!

Thanks for taking the time to ask for input.

I would very much love a "Remaster" of the Mass Effect games as I completely played through 1 and 2 and still have a perfect save that I never got to play through 3 with.

All of that covers what I would want out of a remaster, closer visual similarity between the 3 games so they fit together just a bit better and the most content Possible from all 3 games (Every little random piece of DLC or bonus item, I'm pretty OCD about that)

The only real "visual" gripe I had with Mass effect was a male hairstyle I really liked in Mass Effect 1 that was completely different in 2 when I transferred my character. It looked much worse and was the only hairstyle I could see that had such a different appearance so I figured maybe it was some sort of bug.

Which brings me to the only other thing I'd really want, maybe a final patch to work out any common left over kinks in the games, Garrus's low res face texture in ME1 for example on PC, which would probably just be fixed anyway if the game was going HD.

Either way I would be all for a remastered collection.

Why (in regards to PS4)?

Tomb Raider: DE on both XB1 and PS4 has voice commands. The PS Camera works just as well as a mic as the Kinect does.

Because the specific libraries that are available with Kinect to hook into key words aren't available on PS4 and I don't think they are on the PC side either.

Not sure what the system is like in Tomb Raider but ME3 you were reading out whole dialogue trees worth of text, I'd imagine that's an awful lot of work building custom speach reconginition or cost licencing it as appose to using a system that already exists, albeit sadly only in one platform.

Thanks! Interesting thing about the galaxy map: A BioWare dev told me that it was actually faked. That would explain how they went from something so grand to what we have today.

Some more random facts:
We only got half the amount of planned UNC worlds.
ME1 was supposed to come out within the launch window of the 360. Considering how much it changed from the E3 2006/X06 videos, you have to wonder what went on in the development cycle. Would have been interesting to see how things would have played out if it did release in 2006, BioWare would have started work on the sequel before EA bought them.

I agree with all of the above.

In addition, please:
  • Make the combat more fluid & realistic.
  • And there's the graphics ( I mean, the current gen is better than last gen, so obviously you can make it look better, right?).
  • And the A.I, fix it. Make A.I. Companions not "dumb" (i.e. get left behind, killed first, etc. if you know what I mean).

EatChildren

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
If I played on console I'd want 1080p@60fps, or at least as close to it as possible.

As I'm on PC those bullet points are already achievable (and beyond). So, thinking invested yet reasonable (eg: no additional content / massive gameplay overhauls), I'd like to see from a trilogy port:
  • Seamless narrative between all three games, avoiding menus and whatnot.
  • Abso-fucking-lutely all the DLC and extra content bundled in. Every bit. No leftovers.
  • DLC content optionally added to stores instead of dumped on the player when they boot the game. Properly integrate guns/armour DLC into the adventure.
  • Improved textures while remaining 100% faithful to the original art. Might be too much work. JeanLuc's texture pack for ME2 is a perfect example of how to do it right, and how it improves image quality.
  • Additional graphical polish/fluff on shaders and post processing to take advantage of modern hardware. EG: Improved shadow resolution/complexity, god ray sampling, etc. Anything the team would be willing to invest time in. Like ambient occlusions.
  • Controller support. I wouldn't use it, but others would appreciate it.

As with all "next gen ports" the rock and a hard place will be with the PC crowd. For example, I own all three games and all the DLC. I've played the saga religiously. At 1080p 60fps. With SGSSAA cleaning up the aliasing and forced high quality 16xAF. In short, visually I the game has already looked leagues better than the 360/PS3 build and, additional shaders/textures aside, better than what a next gen build would look like. My money has already been spent.

Eidos' upgrade program for Human Revolution to the Director's Cut left me happy. It had many, many issues, but the price was low given I already owned Human Revolution and the DLC, and the extra content seemed worth the investment. Seamless DLC integration, tweaked AI and skills, and the super awesome developer commentary (of which there was a metric shitload, almost all of which deeply informative).

So if all a "next gen port" turned out to be was the base three games and DLC meshed together as a cohesive experience, running at 1080p@60fps on PS4/Xbone, then as the PC market I'd be pretty under whelmed.

Sweeten the deal. Maybe it's too much to ask, given something like Human Revolution and Tomb Raider are just one game and this is three. But in my opinion the best ports to a new generation of hardware are the ones that either introduce massive, impressive overhauls in visuals/presentation beyond just resolution and framerate, or those that include a wealth of supplementary content that was previously unavailable (eg: developer commentary) that warrants another trip for familiar players.

Post it please! Or PM or whatever. Just finished watching the stream they did yesterday. They sure know how to say all the right things and the art is absolutely gorgeous. I'm actually not that concerned about Mac being the Creative Director now that I've given it a bit of thought. I think he's always had a good grasp of what Mass Effect is and should be, the main problem is how he structures plots.

I concur with EC's thoughts on what the remaster should do. Developer commentary would be a great addition, especially if they could get Casey back in to do it as well.

For those of you that exclusively own the series on PC I have to question why yall would even care if the series got rereleased since you already have 1080p/60fps and can easily have all the DLC? I mean from where im sitting if I had all that, Bioware would have to offer a pretty decent amount of stuff in addition to what is already available and that would, likely go well beyond the scope of the project. The only thing that seems to be missing from the PC version is gamepad support and I'd consider it a huge slap in the face if you had to buy the remastered trilogy to pay for that privilege.

To me the goal of the remaster/redux would be to give PS4/X1 owners a chance to play it and that it's there for PC players since you guys already have everything needed to play the entire trilogy.

It's not the same as the Deus Ex DC where the boss fights would be redone and the DLC integrated into the main game. ME trilogy already has that.

If all they do is 1080p/60FPS and add all the DLCs, off course i wouldnt buy it because i already have all that on the current PC version(except those weapon DLCs). Plus, i don't really care about gamepad on PC.

But if they do improve textures and fix some things left and right(improve Mako controls and inventory UI in ME1, make planet scanning less annoying in ME2, add back holstering in ME3 + fixing the journal, etc.), depending on the price, i could see myself buying that.

Not all DLC were easily available last I checked since some things were random exclusive stuff.

Basically I would want to buy it to have a complete Mass Effect package with all the trimmings
I mean if this actually becomes a thing then it sounds like it would also be updating the games to look closer in detail and quality with whatever other bits of polishing they might need.

So that would be my reason for buying it.

If it was just a re-release of the exact same games all together with nothing changed, then obviously no, I mean running at 60 FPS should be natural for them on PS4/XBONE simply from the better hardware of the consoles.

Small change to Mass Effect 1 that would require some light work:
Grinding Tungsten and Shredder VII ammo was the worst. After unlocking them make them a permanent rare drop instead of being limited to their current level window.

Actually one change I would LOVE to for ME2 and ME3 would be to allow you to go through the game in any order.

For ME2 allow you to recruit squad members in any order, except for Legion obviously.

In ME3 allow you to do Rannoch, Tuchanka and maybe Thessia in any order and not have missions disappear after a certain period of time. The reason I say maybe for Thessia is that it might contain too many story triggers to be able to conceivably tackle that first.
