The MS Walk (or) how I learned to love waking up at 8am after getting 3.5 hours of sl

Jesus God I'm tired. First of all huge fucking thanks to everyone who donated. This was the biggest year ever when it came to donations raised for the Supercities Walk for MS, and they haven't even finished counting all of the donations/pledges. It was a big success, and a lot of you people here were a small part of it. So again, thank you. And to those who didn't donate, thanks for not bitching about seeing that announcement up there for 7 months, I personally hate announcements.

So yeah, I've been hit with a sudden bout of insomnia the past 4 days. I went to bed just after midnight last night, but didn't fall asleep until 4:30am. That was fun. So was getting up at 8am. So yeah, when it came to the actual walking, I would suggest that I was merely adequate. But the event again was a big success.

I receieved 1 donation from family and 2 donations from 2 seperate members from Something Awful. Every single other donation I got for my drive was from Gaming Age. When I was setting up my profile on the MS Society website a few weeks back, I noticed they asked you to set your goal for money you want to raise, and the minimum was $100. I thought wow, I dunno if I can get even half that, even if I bother making a banner and announcement on GA. I'll set it to $101 and worse case scenario I'll have to donate more money out of my paycheck than I'm planning on.

That was not the case. The sum of the 3 aforementioned donations- family and SA- reached $75. So subtract $75 from this figure and you'll reach the amount that GAF donated to the cause:

$1,385.55

That's fucking incredible. Over $1,300. When it initally reached $200 I was both relieved and amazed. $500, I was amazed yet again. But over $1350? The average donation the MS Society received last year was around $120. The volunteers whom I dealt with when it came to the pledges were very impressed, and I have no one to thank for it but you guys who donated.

If you guys have any questions or want to say anything, feel free. I'm completely fucking out of it thanks to getting no sleep and then exercising in the morning, which is something I never do, but I'll be here.

But yeah, that's just awesome guys. I always knew GAF had a strong, interwoven community here, but I never realized how tight it was until these past few weeks went by. I'm very impressed and grateful.

Congratulations.

I regret not being able to donate, but it's been beyond tight for me as of late.

Both of my parents have MS, and it's been incredibly hard. My mother's conditions are far more serious, and my father effectively ignores the fact that he often has to move his right leg by using his arms to pick it up. I can't say I know anybody else whose parents have MS(Or even one. As far as both parents, my mother has been told that no members of the National MS Society are a couple who both have the disease and had children, but this was some time ago).

I wish I had offered some sort of support, even if it were just words of encouragement without a donation. I just felt bad saying something along the lines of "Good luck, but I can't afford five dollars to give you".

$1,300 is very impressive, though. I'm sure the money will be put to good use.

Unfortunately, you've gone and given me some faith in the fucked up members of this forum.

You're a dick, Mike Works.

There was BC news on TV in the pizza place I was at tonight, and I was just waiting for you to be on there thanking the gaffers. You should have hunted down a TV camera :(

Mike Works: Major props to you for participating in the walk. My dad has MS so I know exactly what it's like. I've volunteered to help out on the walk and bike tour a few times in the past and it's always great people involved.

GAF: You deserve a pat on the back. :) Karma will make you rich.
