- Play my GB, GBC, GBA games.

I'm tired of all the speculation over the thing being a portable Gamecube and whatnot. I just want a system that I can buy once, and get at least three years of use out of it.

Nintendo really burned my ass this generation with the GBA. I didn't believe it was as bad as people were saying - then I saw it for myself. fawful! I put the damned thing in storage, I couldn't see the games I was playing - so no use using it.

Traded it in towards the GBA Service Pack, and still wasn't satisfied with the screen. Front lighting was clearly not the solution. There were still a lot of instances in which I couldn't see the f'ing screen under normal lighting conditions, which prevented me from enjoying gaming on the go.

The whole GBA line just screamed abuse of power on Nintendo's part. "Har har! We'll release a hand held they can't see; because they have no choice!" I'm certain that if the public outcry and Afterburner mod didn't get so much publicity Nintendo would have been content with contributing to visual assault and battery on consumers eyeballs.

The Gameboy Player was pants as well. What the hell is up with that image stutter / skipping?

I must be some sort of masochist to be willing to give Nintendo another shot - I'm completely ignoring the NintenD00DS, unless I can score one for $5 to play GBA games on; after having been so clearly swindled by them with the GBA family of products.

What do you want the next Gameboy to do?
 
Have a touch screen, a PSP-sized backlit screen, accept SD cards for music and movie playback (built in play-yan) and play older games.
 
agreed on both counts. and it had better NOT HAVE A TOUCH SCREEN. i really hope nintendo doesn't interpret the ds's initial market success as creative success, or the game boy line is DOOOOOMED. my demands aren't complicated: i want something with a decent screen that i can play treasure's gba games AND kirby's pinball land on. the gb player blows, and it's the best thing we have. :/

agreed --- it's just plain stupid not to have a touch screen when screen is in your hands... I've pointed my finger on my PSP screen numbers of time trying to navigate options :lol
 
I hope it doesn't play older games -that's what the DS is for...it will truly separate the DS from the GB line, and allowing the DS to become the casual, or non-gamers machine and give true freedom to unleash super power in the GB.

16:9 high resolution wide aspect screen like the PSP (oled technology if possible)

The next Gameboy had better...

...at least match PSP in terms of 3D visuals. The era of shitty PS1/N64 3D graphics was nearly dead until the POS Nintendo DS came out.

...have one screen only, and not be touch-enabled. I'm tired of the gimmick already.

...have four face buttons, two shoulder buttons.

...be backlit.

...be as portable as the GBA SP is (this includes having a clamshell design if need be)

...accept all previous Game Boy software (if possible)

...cost less than $130 at launch.

...last at least 6 hours when charged.

...have its premiere launch title be an original game, not a port.
 
1. Proprietary disc format.

I own 60 gamecube games, and I'd be damned if they let backwards compatibility not only hamper the design of the new system but also kill its sales as most first-time adopters just adopt bargin-bin classics like Pikmin and Metroid Prime.

2. 16x9 Touch Screen within a couple milimeters of PSP's

While drohne has a point by all of his whining about Nintendo's products, I'm pretty sure that a touch screen is a logical, cheap, and intuitive interface in a lot of situations. I'd love a next gen system that I can play 3D games that are anywhere near as cool to control as Kirby, Electroplankton, or Yoshi Touch & Go.

3. SD cards

Proprietary discs are understandable, but definitely not in the case of the writable memory. It needs to be capable of all the whizbang media features PSP is, even if it doesn't emphasize them as much.

4. Dual analog

Nubs, sticks, treadmill trackpads, whatever. Just a Nintendo-quality analog control solution on either side of the screen to make FPS's possible. That alone would put it ahead of the PSP. I love my PSP and all, but I can't imagine going back to the days of Turok controls for an FPS. And the touch screen != legit mouselook

5. Sexiness

That thing that the PSP has, where when you're holding one, women come up to you and offer you oral sex in exchange for a few seconds of watching you play Ridge Racer before petting its contiguously plastic front mold.
 
Not be huge like the PSP and DS, Ipod cross with SP size would be ideal.
Have a clam shell design.
Have a high quality, high resolution (at least 640/360) back lit widescreen.
Be backward compatible with the entire gb line.
Have at least 4 face buttons and 2 shoulder buttons.
Have at least 8 hours of play time minimum.
Use cards not cd's, but have the option to use other cards to play music movies etc.
Have Good speakers and a headphone output.
Be at least as powerful as whatever the competiton is.
Be less than $200 cause if it isn't i am not buying it.
Have cheap games comparable with the gameboy line.
 
I want the next Gameboy to...

1. Be powerful. Let's say Gamecube quality visuals. I'm drooling at the idea of a handheld Metroid Prime.

2. Wireless play. I'd say this is pretty much a given, but still warrants mentioning.

3. Be more than a gaming machine. MP3/OGG/MP4 playback functionality. Possibly PDA functions, like a simple web browser. There is good, free technology out there. GPE, the GTK+ based GNU/Linux option is just one of many examples. All Nintendo would have to do would be make a few small, appropriate modifications (e.g., branding) and play nice with the free software community. +1 sale on launch day if this happens.

4. Analog. I don't care if it's dual, but this is obviously a key feature, not that I doubt Nintendo knows that.

5. Design. I want something classy, like the SP was when it was first unveiled. Give us a variety of cool colors and patterns, or better yet, faceplates. Make it a clamshell for the sake of the screen.

6. Screen. Something ultra-gorgeous please. There's no point having nice graphics if the screen displaying them isn't magnificent.

7. GPS. This may sound frivolous, but if the machine has wireless capabilities, wouldn't it be great be able to track your friends (obviously there are many privacy and security issues that would go with this, but that's for another thread on another day), wouldn't it be great to be able to find the nearest pizza places, or bus stops? I can't imagine the technology behind this is too expensive these days.
 
-not come out within 2 minutes of DS's release
-show me that Nintendo has the ability to not suck
-not rely on lame case color variations to sell units
-not suck like DS
 
...not have a fucking touch screen, and have reasonably modern 3D graphics hardware as well as a good resolution. An analog stick would be nice to have as well.
 
-Be as powerful or more powerful than the PSP

-Have a battery life of five to eight hours.

-Come up with a better analog solution than that shitty nub the PSP has. Or at least put two nubs on.

-cost $150 or so.

-have a new Pikmin, Fire Emblem and Mario at launch. Ok ok, I can dream...
 
How can the new Gameboy have a screen as big as the PSPs but become more portable? There's no way.

They could have as large a screen but go with a clamshell design. Move the speakers up to the other side of the shell and have the shell cover the entire bottom half, not just the screen. With that it place, it might make an analog stick (or two) more feasible, because the chances of it being snapped off would be much less (when the case is shut).
 
I'd like to see it have an actual analog stick, if only so I wouldn't have to deal with the painful d-pads any longer. I'd also want it at an affordable price. Handheld gaming is getting waaaaay too expensive.
 
GC compatibilty, the discs are not so big to compromise the design.

Close/open design, I like how I feel with a GBA SP, I would love something like that but bigger for a better screen and more complex controls.

High value, I don´t want to feel that plastic feeling of the DS, spend some money in materials.

6/8 hours, but something comparable to PSP would be acceptable.

I can pass of GBA compatibilty, music, video and everything that makes it more expensive. 200$-150$ would be a good price.
