The Office: Final Season |OT| It's better to burn out than it is to rust

I just...I don't know how I feel about that. I don't know why I as a viewer saw it, so it takes me out of the experience a little bit. Same as when there was a small glimpse in the first episode of this season. I have to think about it.

I wonder what they're trying to accomplish with this.

1. A reminder that there is a crew there & that they care about the cast?
2. Another infidelity storyline?

I sincerely hope it's not #2.

I don't think they were supposed to be banging. I think it was supposed to imply that the doc crew is getting ready to call it a wrap or the production is falling apart.

Say what you will about it, it's the most interesting thing The Office has done in quite some time.

When the hell is Andy coming back? It's been too long.

And Jim was kind of a douche. Why the hell was he freaking out that she didn't record the ballerina thing? I'm sure his kid will do pretty of lame things like that. Missing one isn't a big deal. Ehhh...I guess he was just frustrated about losing the financing.

Is Pam going to fuck the camera guy? After one argument? Yikes.

Yup, I had a twinge in my head that the crew might cut it off because it was unusually sad. Didn't think they'd actually do it.

I would argue cheap, not interesting.

That's really all they have. The past two or three or four seasons (It honestly all blends together) have bordered on unwatchable. It's their final season, and nobody is enjoying it anymore. They should have been doing "cheap" stunts like this to add something to the monotony.

Have you guys seen the same episode as I did? I certainly didn't get the "they're gonna fuck" vibe from the ending...at all.

I tuned in tonight (the second time in two years) and I was floored by how sad that ending was. I just couldn't believe they did that. I'm sad now :(

Same. I did not get that at all. Which is why I'm saying they could either:

1. A reminder that there is a crew there & that they care about the cast?
2. Another infidelity storyline?

There is no way they could get away with Pam instantly cheating on Jim after the camera turns off. Especially not after the length of time before she actually broke it off with her fiance early on in the series. It would piss off too many people with how unnatural it is.

I can see her growing closer to Brian over the next few episodes but then she rejects Brian and Jim comes back and everything is happy. I can see it happening and it would be lame if I'm right. PLEASE LET ME BE WRONG.

Me neither. My mind never went there at all until coming to this thread.

This is possible. Or Jim gets jealous of Brian or something. Pam and Brian aren't going to have sex.

As cheap as that move was, I'm glad they did it. The last few seasons felt rudderless. At least with moves like this, it appears that they're going somewhere.

The argument was projected and then forced upon on the audience. I guess the payoff was worth it, but leading up to the reveal, I couldn't help but ask myself if this is what they think people want to see. Because as it was happening, I thought it was really dumb. We'll see where they take it, but the show is on an all time low low from a quality standpoint.

Why the hell does everyone thing Pam's going to sleep with Brian, or that was even implied? The documentary crew's been filming them for years, you think they don't have any connection to the characters, or that they realize when things get way too personal? Dude was just comforting her, sheesh.

Yep. Nothing is going to end up bad between the two. Maybe if it wasn't the last series they could generate some tension...but come on. I'd even be surprised if they even reference the fight next week.
Just wait:

Synopsis:
"Andy is worried he stepped in dog poo outside of the office. Spends 20 minutes stressing about it. Jim and Pam try to start an office softball team with hilarious results!"

Wasn't today's episode supposed to foreshadow (or even more than that) the ending of the series? If so I must have missed it.

The documentary crew didn't bother not showing extremely personal stuff before, so suddenly stopping the cameras for a moment for this is definitely new.

As I said earlier, I think the appearance of the documentary crew is supposed to signify that the project is going off the rails, leading to the end of the series.

Ah I see. For a bit I honestly thought the whole "Dwight is upset about Dunder Mifflin jumping ship" was the foreshadowing, in that Dwight would also somehow get involved in the project and leave. With Michael, Ryan, Jim, Dwight and Pam gone then the series could end.

Being in the Florida hotel room whilst Jim was getting tempted to cheat on Pam kind of makes the whole "stopping because it is too personal thing" seem a little silly.

Yup and yup.

Overly uncomfortable, but at least it wasn't flaccid comedy.

Why the fuck was there still carpet in the office?? They found hard wood just the week before, and instead repair it all?

As for the doc crew, the production staff has gone on record saying the Dunder mifflin staff will be shown a cut of the documentary at some point soon, being as meta as it can be, they are also being filmed watching the documentary that they have been filming.

Also, someone does something next week that will get them fired the week after. "Someone does something drastic and there are repercussions". No idea who or what they do.

My guess would be Nellie or Toby. Also this week is what the show's writers are calling "the beginning of the end."

I was so worried in Season 4 that there would be terrible Jim and Pam relationship drama. I guess they waited till Season 9 to finally play that card.

You guys are letting your imaginations run away from you. It was simply supposed to be an unexpected, touching moment, as well as set up to see more of the film crew as they shut down production.

The terrible acting was definitely hard to watch.

This show really shouldn't attempt drama.
I can't believe people are reacting like this.

I thought it was very well acted. Pam especially.

And I totally was tracking with the argument. Especially because I've been in arguments that have developed EXACTLY like this. And it's irrational and stupid, but you still lose your cool and your partner is basically blindsided by it.

I thought it was very well done.

Edit: It would be interesting to see if it's more of the married folk that thought it was a good scene.

One thing I've been letting go of is the fact that the documentary has been running for ages. You'd think that episodes have already aired, and they'd be more recognizable in public, especially when interacting directly with random people.

I think the idea is that it hasn't aired which makes it kind of a long running joke

In michaels final episode he says to let him know when it airs

Yup. Would have been a nice callback to an older episode where Pam was crying.

BTW Were they implying that boom guy was having a relationship with Pam?

I don't think so. I assumed that they were friends who knew each other as the documentary was filming through the years, and she knew him best out of everyone in the room (including the crew) at the time. I don't think there's anything like that happening.

See, I thought Michael meant for them to tell him when that specific episode would air, not necessarily the documentary as a whole.

I dunno Michael would have been milking it if it aired on tv already and he were an actual celebrity

Like in the uk version Christmas special

Good point.

That was pretty much what he was doing from when the documentary began. I'd like to think that the prospect of getting to Holly outweighed getting his last bits of screentime in the documentary.

Yeah, I had always assumed that none of it had ever aired in their universe. If it had the characters would have had to have referenced it at some earlier point. The main thing I'm wondering is will they see themselves in the same format that we've seen them? If so, they're going to have to jump a few years into the future at the end of this. How are they going to show them ten years of footage?
