I poke my head into tese threads every once in awhile, and every time I'm glad I gave up on this show when I did. Awful.

It makes no sense why they decided to turn Andy into a jerk. You mentioned the sorta mini drama between Andy and Erin and they finally get together, and also how Andy won over the office in season 8. Basically just threw away everything they did with the character over 6 seasons.

You could say the same about Dwight and Angela, Angela and Andy, Darrel and what's her face etc etc. People move on and so do plotlines. That was the least of my issues with this ep (though I was generally ok with it). The Brian storyline is soooo awwkkwwarrddd. That casting is just weird.
I already made my peace with that at the start of the season.

Meh, Andy is a character the writers constantly change to fit the needs of the show. He must have gone through at least 4 or 5 different personas over the course of the show.
Remember when he was the Angry Dwight of the Stamford branch? Good times.
I don't know, it seems like it, but at the same time the writers wouldn't wait this long to ruin the only decent relationship on the show, would they?
True,4 seasons of development to toss it out in one ep. This show is has become awful. they need to end it now.

I honestly hate everyone on this show.
The last scene needs to be a retelling of the Superbowl opening, except with a real fire that kills everyone and the only thing that survives is the camera + documentary footage. Perfect!

actually had 'office stuff' in it.
The Brian lunch scene was terrible but the rest of the Jim/Pam stuff was good. Nice last moment I can relate to.
The Andy bits didn't offend me. It was about as good as it could have been
I especially love how technology allows me to skip the rest of the show with the mall and stuff, although Daryl's initial reaction to Oscar's proposal was funny
Overall? I give it by far my highest rating of the season: Poor bordering on mediocre.

I'm not someone who routinely shits on this show, I thought the episodes after Michael left including the season after were still really funny. But the last few episodes have been really bad and the season overall doesn't match anywhere near the previous.
This episode is the worst of the season and I think maybe in the entire series, I found nothing funny or amusing at all except erin's new boyfriend guy asking why nobody ever stops Meredith when she says too much. Also some of you are saying Andy's return wasn't funny? I thought it was obvious they wrote him in order to get you to hate him this ep like the co-workers did, he wasn't supposed to be funny.
I got really uneasy, annoying vibes from this episode in general. This is the only 'dramatic' episode I felt was genuinely distasteful and lacked any kind of sincerity. I don't know how to describe it, it felt like the writers did not want to write this and the actors did not want to act, it felt like some going through the motions depressing shit, like I was in an actual office.

So where to now for Brian?
It either has to be:

Well, top 5 at least this year.
It either has to be:
a) Nowhere. This is the most likely outcome and consistent with the quality of writing. He will just slink away as Pam and Jim get on with their lives. Probably he was only brought in during Andy's absence so the train wreck that is his character looks incredible by comparison.
b) Scranton Strangler. I'm not sure if they are hinting at this intentionally (to create a red herring) or they just don't have a clue what they are doing so they made the lunch scene creepy as fuck by accident. If he is the SS, this means Jim and Pam have been long time friends with a serial killer. Me-thinks that is not the best end for the show.
c) Andy will get fired and the new boss will be...Brian. It makes no sense at all, but it could allow for lots of wacky situations.
d) Despite reconciling, he continues to hit on Pam and ends up causing trouble with Jim so the story line continues until they reach another point where they make up again....
e) We find out Brian is really an eccentric film producer who handles the sound himself. Pam, Jim and the rest are really just actors in a film, not a documentary and it is all taking place on an island somewhere. Despite this, Pam and Jim fall in love anyway.
In other words...no matter how you look at it the Brian storyline will go down as the biggest piece of fucking garbage in the history of tv comedy writing.

I think the problem is that they are shoehorning this Brian story/Jim & Pam drama into the last season. It feels like something that should have been stretched out a lot more. Instead we are introduced Brian and we're supposed to care about him just as much as any other character in the show.
