The Office: Final Season |OT| It's better to burn out than it is to rust

Yeah it was dumb as hell but I laughed my head off as well. Also thought the Kevin "I did it!" celebration after the senator came out was great too.

I think Kevin has been one of the most consistent characters on the show. They don't seem to have felt the need to drastically change who his character is all of a sudden the way they have with most of the others.

He's not drastically different, but he is drastically dumber. It's not as bad as with the rest of the cast, but it's still a bit irksome.

Goodbye Michael is basically the best possible way they could have sent the character off. "Special Projects" in S8, which is the first episode in the Florida arc, is pretty good. Niagara (the wedding episode) is good enough. Not a whole lot else really comes to mind for me post-Michael Scott Paper Company.

If I was going to tell somebody to watch the Office, I would tell them to stop right after season 5. Sure, there's a cliffhanger, but I'll just tell them the baby turns out cute.

Basically, MSPC is the last arc where I think they actually had material, and where Michael actually got to be competent at something (which is the only time he's tolerable) and Pam got to work hard at something and basically succeed. (Something they then TOOK AWAY from her as part of their deliberate strategy of rolling back any advancement in Pam's character, which is why she quit art school, failed as a salesperson, and only succeeded as an office manager because Dwight, of all people, pitied her.) Some of my favorite episodes are actually in that arc, and I really can't think of a single episode after season 5 that I enjoyed very much.

I'd say if they want to continue they should stop after "Goodbye Michael" near the end of season 7. It has a great finale vibe and closes the Michael Scott chapter very well.

You don't want to miss out on Michael Scott Paper Company. Or Holly's return.

Season One, Episode One:

PAM: "I don't think it would be the worst thing if they let me go, because then I might... I just don't think it's many little girls' dream to be a receptionist... I like to do illustrations, mostly watercolour, a few oil pencil... uhm... Jim thinks they're good"

That's the talking head that sets up the entire dramatic arc of the series. They're all in this bleak office, they do the job, but no one really likes their job, people want more from life. Pam in particular is clearly timid and not satisfied with her life, and Jim is one of the few bright, encouraging spots in the office... one of the few people who actually believes in her.

Just sayin'

Wait what are you saying?

I really enjoyed every part of Michael and Holly after her return. His proposal is one of the best scenes in the show to me. I also enjoyed the episode when Dwight is manager. That's pretty much all I liked in the last couple of years.

This drama with Jim and Pam sucks. I hate Oscar's relationship with the senator. And I can't stand Andy.

Season Two, Episode Three:

PAM: The thing about Jim is... when he's excited about something [...] he gets really into it and he does a really great job ... but the problem with Jim is that he works here so... that hardly ever happens

If only Jim had another job opportunity to pursue, so his attractive enthusiasm and hard work could surface more often instead of his slacker complacency. Why, it might even strengthen their relationship.

From the point where we are now... the only real hope is Pam sees that scene as the documentary starts to air, realises she is in the wrong and packs up the family to move and support his dream.

In reality I'd expect the whole issue to just get dropped as they make a giant slip and slide or something off the side of the building into a pool of hotdogs.

After tonight, the remaining 2 episodes are hourlongs, and the finale may end up being 90min-2 hrs, with a 1hr retrospective airing directly before it.

Bizzare resolution to the Pam/Jim bit...

Anyone else do a double take when they showed Michael Scott in the 'flashback' to the wedding footage? Was so weird to see him all of a sudden.

Bizzare resolution to the Pam/Jim bit...

Yep, I liked the first five resolutions way better. Will be interesting to see how they resolve it again next week.

In general, what the fuck is Pam supposed to be doing? Apart from that pain, the rest of the episode was pretty decent.

So what the hell does Daryl do anymore in the office? He has so little responsibility that he's able to sit in Andy's office helping him review a script, then spend the entire day with Andy filming? Don't get me started on how Andy has the time, but we know that he's the boss of the office. I have absolutely no idea what Daryl's role is anymore. Hell, I don't even know what his role is at the Philly job either.

I'm hoping for a Michael Scott appearance for the finale, it would really help close out this show.

I'm ambivalent on this. I mean, he already made his goodbye two years ago and it was perfect.

Then again, we'll definitely be seeing clips of Michael as the DM crew watches themselves in the documentary. So I'm guessing the documentary crew will surprise the branch by bringing Michael out to visit them.

To be fair, the show hasn't been about the business of paper for a long time. They occasionally involve a sales call when they need an excuse to have some shots outside of the building but that's it.

That's true, but we know who the salespeople are, we know who the boss is, we know about Pam's imaginary position, we know Kevin is the accounant, ect. I just have absolutely no idea what Daryl is anymore. I remember them bringing him up into the office from the warehouse, but since then his actual job title seems like it has been a complete mystery. And now he has a mystery position in Philly too. Though, I barely know what Jim does in Philly either, I guess.

It's funny: they played Roy's Wedding again before the new episode, and he actually tells us what his position is.
Assistant Regional Manager

Let's hope this is the end of the Jim Pam divide. The writers were trying to shove the divide down our throats so they would get one more Jim Pam moment and it didn't work. Clarke once again shows he's been one of the bright spots of this shitty final season. I still can't get over the assassination of The Nard Dog. Was painful to watch him since he's come back and even before he left. As someone who was cheering for him to take over after Michael Scott, I really regret backing him.

For a character I was really down on the introduction of, he's turned out to be one of the few reasons I even bother to keep tuning in. Great addition imo

Dwight and Angela just need to get together, stop this madness.

Finale spoilers:
The finale takes place several months after the second-last episode--there's a time-skip--at a wedding. I'm not sure whose wedding it is, but the episode before the finale involves Dwight proposing to his girlfriend so I assume they'll do a plot twist and have it fail and have him and Angela get married.

I'm hoping for a Michael Scott appearance for the finale, it would really help close out this show.

Finale spoilers:
They've released a ton of finale casting information, and it seems like basically anyone who has ever been on the show is in the finale (including Mose and Badger from Breaking Bad and Kelly and Ryan and David Wallace), but nothing about Carell. Multiple cast members have also confirmed that he's not coming back. Now, is that just a big fib designed to misdirect people? Maybe, but I suspect there's no Michael. The shot of him in the Jim+Pam tearaway tonight looks like about it.

I think the chances of him not making an appearance are practically zero. He'll be there for sure.

I'll go for the Michael/Holly wedding being the finale (it has been reported that he was on set during the finale filming but they did claim he had "no scenes" (yeah right)). Dwight/Angela is the likely choice, but remember at one stage they would have thought that "the farm" wouldn't have completely sucked. Unless they re-wrote the ending after it was canned, you would think they had planned for them to end apart otherwise it would have been really strange (Angela was not to be in "The Farm").

If Michael is in it, all I want is a shot of him and Holly watching it in Colorado (I think that's where they relocated to?), with pictures of their wedding and whatnot in the background. Clearly showing he's moved on to bigger and better things.

Just him and her, and Michael giving that classic teary-eyed Michael smile.

So there are only a few episodes of this show left and they decided to use one to throw paper airplanes and squirt Andy in the eyes with water? I know it is the show trying to set up endgames for some of the characters but damn was it terrible.

And speaking of terrible, that awful flashback/Pam & Jim stand in front of a green screen 'resolution' was unearned and really didn't resolve anything. Jim probably should not have answered his phone when he and Pam were talking but holy hell was Pam a complete bitch about it. Her complete contempt for Jim's job was awful and him forgetting his umbrella (with it very sunny out) will trigger a memory of how great their wedding was and fix everything? (I hated the wedding episode, by the way)

They spent the first few seasons showing how perfect Jim and Pam were for each other but I think what they actually showed was that Jim and Pam were perfect to share a desk at work together, not perfect for each other outside of work.

I started to tear up when Pam got the Umbrella and brought it to Jim and they started hugging and then Kissed. There was just so much emotion in that scene. I love to see them happy as a couple so much and it was a great moment for me.

If they do this, I bet you £5 he'll have a baby on his knee.

I'm a sucker for happy resolutions, despite how stupid I think this storyline is/was.

When Pam and Jim were 'hugging' and it flashed back to their wedding, but you didn't see them at first, and it was just a bunch of people in suits in a church...I said "I can't believe they killed Pam." And my wife started bawling.

lol

I feel like the Jim/Pam scene wasn't earned.. but guess depends on how handle it next week

Agreed.

It wasn't, at all. It was just a bunch of forced drama, which sabotaged both characters to make it work, and in the end there was no pay off. It felt really weird.

Thought it was one of the all time worse. All the subplots were horrible. 2k paper plane contest...really?

Erin/New Jim having a random relationship moment. Andy is horrible as usual. Dwight/Angela stuff is sooo tiring, I don't give a shit if they get together at all. It is awesome she's hitting an all time low after all the shit she did throughout the series. But since the Farm is done it's obvious where they're going.

Jim/Pam finished(if it is) a little too fast. Was getting vibes Pam was done for good. Jim is starting to be one of those work 24/7 dads and Pam was getting tired of it. Knew they were going to go this route. Jim was going to cave in sooner or later. Hope we start getting some closer next episode.

I think a lot of people focus too much on the exposition, which is ridiculous I'll admit, instead of the jokes. Its still a funny show. Stop taking it too seriously now guys.

Tell your wife not to cry for her. She's already dead.
