U2 won Rock Performance by a Duo or Group and Rock Song for Vertigo...I disagree with both awards, personally, but am a fan of Vertigo and only feel that the other songs were superior...mainly Take Me Out. The album was technically released too late to qualify, since the Grammys have their fucked up October 30th deadline. Idiots.

Hmm... Watchin the west coast recording, and Kanye just won best rap album...

and... god damn if he ain't a cool motherfucker.

You now belong to FMT.
watching these rock artists perform freaked me out because I know all the words to the songs, yet I dont listen to rock... I was bopping my head and singing and my girl was like WTF and then I thought WTF?!?!? then she left, I go turn on my xbox to play madden and then I realized that I have been subliminally injected with EA trax from Green Day, and Franz Ferdinand, and others... As a hip hop/R&B lover, it feels good to actually like and appreciate rock again...

highlights of the night for me...

Alicia Keys playing the piano with her back to the camera... nice sight.

Kanye finally winning an award after being snubbed at so many award shows, and his speech that sounded from the heart..

getting the damn BLACK EYE PEAS out the way at the beginning, I am growing tired of them.

Latifah doing decent hosting the show, and really impressing me with her Jazz...will get her album.

Green Day/Los lonely boys/Franz Ferdinand.Maroon 5 guys/ I like them all now, and will get some of their music...

Hmm... even though it's kind of mean to say this: Ray Charles doesn't deserve the best album of the year award. Usher does. Why even have him in the nominations, we all knew he would get in because the "im dead, vote for me." Ugh.

Usher killed everyone else this year, he had like 20 singles off his 17 track Album, he sold the most in 2004, and he still didn't win. Wow. And i'm not really an Usher fan. Gay. Gay. Gay.

Green Day, Alicia Keys, and Kanye all had great cds too... this is bullshit.

Charles, maybe not. But Usher? NO. Confessions is the most overhyped album in history. And the Ray Charles album really is good. It's easy to say "well he's not here anymore so that's why they gave him the award," and that may be partially true... but the album is still damn good.

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
Did anyone else turn the channel right as Kanye West began delivering his speech? I swear, I could stomach seeing this guy getting all pussyfied about winning an award. I immediately turned to my local Japanese station...

Did he cry?

Did they have to cut him off?

Regarding my earlier controversial comments.

The movie was at least technically sound, it was well produced and the choreography of the dance numbers is great.

The plot makes absolutely no sense and is so riddled with holes that it completely ruins what the movie tries to achieve. Why does Selma stick to the story of donating money to her fictional father? To defend an immoral dead man in some sort of bullshit quasi 'Mum's the word' promise? Am I supposed to believe that she couldn't tell her son about the need for his operation because his 'eyesight will get worse if he worries about it!'? Am I supposed to believe that despite stating beforehand that the son must get the operation when he was 15, now he must get it right away!

I could go on, the amount of plot discrepancies was enough to make the latter half of the movie border on parody. To be fair, I was moved by Stormare's performance, so the movie wasn't a total loss.

Alicia keys did great as usual. Jamie Fox did alright, but I just can't take him serious. I guess I've seen In Living Color and Booty Call too many times...

I liked Usher's performance, even though it was a blatent imitation of Michael Jackson. Probably why I liked it. I'm always up for a good Michael Jackson immitator.

I'm still amazed at how James Brown can move at his age. What is he? Like 80 years old?

Usher/Greenday probably should have got record of the year.

A few too many country music performances for my tastes, but whatever.

Nelly was nomiated for a Grammy? Where was Mos Def? Bah.

I'm happy for Queen Latifah for how well received her jazz performance was.

Marc Anthony seemed okay, but something with J-Lo's voice just sounded off key so many times. That dress also made her look pudgy around the mid-section.

Kanya West's speech was borderline, but I thought he ended it extremely well.

There was less manufactured pop this year, which was good. But still the show was fairly boring overall.

"Here, you can have this..."
"Wow! An award statue! Ohh....it's just a grammy..." *throws off the balcony*
"Hey! Don't throw your trash down here!"

The Grammys are just a masturbatory celebration of the American music industry. Unless you want to see some live acts, or you adore celebrities, I don't see any point in watching.

None of these points are even valid. She's not an intelligent woman, all she wants is for her son to have the operation.
As for the bit about his age, he turned 15 during the course of her trials so he had the operation.

Yeah, Bjork fans saying Wilco is boring. BJORK FANS. Something is boring. BJORK FANS are saying SOMETHING IS BORING. Something does not compute right here.

I cannot think of any music outside of really mainstream stuff that rhymes more with boring than Bjork.

I don't see how anyone can say Bjork's music is boring...unless you've only heard Vespertine or something, but you're still daft.

And really, who cares what you think?

Björk >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wilco. It's pretty much a fact.

Vespertine is pretty much the only Bjork album I can stomach at this stage of my life. Back when I was younger and more naive, her older albums did it for me.

Wilco, though, pretty much everything they do I enjoy. How could anyone say that what Wilco is doing is boring? Some albums take time to enjoy. Bringing up Uncle Tupelo doesn't help your case, either.

I do like Uncle Tupelo, though. I love alt country.

I liked Alicia's performance with Jamie Fox but I only saw the end portion of it.

Kanye's speech was entertaining and painful at the same time. I did like how he ended it. :)

As far as Bjork's albums go I've only heard/own Medulla, Homogenic, Post, and Debut. Believe it or not I don't like Post much it just doesn't seem to be focused enough - it's too random in style and theme. Medulla and Debut are both great, well rounded albums and Homogenic is a personal classic. I still have to get Vespertine and Telegram (and whatever else there may be)

Um... have you heard A Ghost Is Born? Thatr album personifies dull. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot has a few alright songs, as does Being There, but Wilco's music is meandering and boring... they're like an overglorified- 'Adult Alternative' band for people who've gone over the hill but still want to be 'hip.' I'm well aware some albums take time to enjoy, I just don't see myself enjoying Wilco anytime soon. Maybe when I'm 50. *rolleyes*

And it figures that the only Björk album you like is Vespertine :lol . Seriously, I don't see how anyone can dislike Homogenic. It's a masterpiece. Not to say Vespertine is bad (it's one of my favorite albums), but... yeah.

But anyway, this is pointless. I still wager Björk deserved the award, but congrats to Tweedy and Co.

And I'm not quite sure why I brongt up Uncle Tupelo, but they do suck as well. Not my thing.

Interesting note about Wilco...

They had a concert last night in Birmingham, AL and they were cool enough not to cancel their concert just to attend the Grammys. They gave an outstanding show, and they made a few funny references to winning their two Grammy awards this year. The best comment was something to the effect of: "This is going to be our last show. Now that we've won a Grammy, we have nowhere to go but down, so this is it." Their lighthearted attitude in general towards the Grammys made me like them that much more, even though Ghost is not nearly as good as Yankee (and in fact, they played as many if not more songs from Yankee than from Ghost last night).

And for anyone saying Wilco is boring, I would challenge you to attend one of their concerts and still say they are boring. They might not have the stage energy of a punk band, but they gave a great concert.

Well you're the same guy who told me that what's pretty much my favorite band isn't that good, so we clearly have very different opinions on good music. I used to really enjoy Bjork, but her music basically gives me a headache every time I listen to it. Something about the production of her music is so sterile; I don't know what it is. Vespertine seemed to me her most organic album, and I thought her voice really suited the soundscape it created. It just feels like the perfect winter album.

At least we both like Talking Heads!

I agree with you in that respect, I just think that sometimes Vespertine gets a bit to 'samey' and everything just washes together. "Harm of Will" in particular is quite offensive (though that climax that lasts for about 4 seconds almost makes up for the est of the track). I'd still give it a 10/10 though.

By the way, I was wondering.. is Byrne's solo stuff any good? Which album should I get?

I am extemely happy that Garden State won for Best Sountrack. That was one of the few I was really gunning for.

Also, I am suprised it hasn't been mentioned, but John Mayer's "Daughters" for Best Song was the right choice. What a beautiful song.

I really enjoy David Byrne's solo albums -- the one's I've heard at least -- but they're not really anything like what the Talking Heads did. The first solo of his I heard was Rei Momo, which is essentially a salsa album. I like it a lot, it's incredibly catchy, but it's pretty much basic salsa with David Byrne's English vocals.

My favorite albums of his are probably Uh Oh, Feelings, Look Into the Eyeball, and Grown Backwards. I'd probably just start with Grown Backwards, which came out last year, because it's the most cohesive and human album I've heard him release. There's something very emotional and real about the way he sings the songs on this album.

I think most of his albums take a world music angle -- I haven't heard his film compositions; and I haven't heard all of his albums -- but most of what I've heard is heavily influenced, especially Uh Oh and Look Into the Eyeball.

Grown Backwards really has none of that influence, though. One of my favorite songs on the album is actually a cover of Lambchop's "The Man Who Loved Beer". I like the original as well.
