Guess I need a Macro Lense for shooting close to objects:
Overexposed? I thought it was difficult not getting the reflection, should I focus elsewhere?
What lenses are you using for these photos?
Also, what distance are you from the subject? Shutter speed and aperture?
Tripod, or hand-held?
Photo 1:
You might be past the minimum focusing distance on the top photo. It looks like you were focusing on the wall or palm tree in the back. Hard to tell without knowing what lens was used.
Photo 2:
Try exposure compensation or underexpose a bit.
A circular polarizing filter would help if you are trying to avoid the reflection.
Were you trying to get a shallow depth of field, or greater depth of field in this picture?
I don't think focusing was a factor with exposure or reflections in this photo.
In regards to a certain area of a subject to focus, try selecting one of the nine focus points manually.
Press the "zoom in" button (60D, "+ magnifying glass", the upper right on rear of camera) with your thumb.
Through your viewfinder, select one of the focus points with either your main dial (top of camera with index finger), quick control dial or 8-way pad (rear of camera with your thumb).
Then, press the "set" button to lock the focus point.
