The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Walked into BB today and grabbed one of the last 360 CE preorders. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. Won't be able to really dig into it until the weekend though. Plus Fable 2 has it's hooks in me still (not to mention Dead Space and Saint's Row 2). There's just too much awesome to go around.

I could do with these reviews being a little less enthuiastic, since my Overpriced Clock Edition isn't even "Shipping Soon" from Amazon yet--the hype, plus the fact that it's like five hundred freaking page long, did just push me over the edge into ordering the LE Guide, though.

On Clock Edition packaging, somebody on CAG e-mailed Bethesda and was told it would be one big box with two different boxes inside--one for the clock, and then the regular CE.

"Across the three platforms, the PC version of Fallout 3 is the best, provided you have hardware that can handle it. The PC version has better lighting, a bit more graphical detail, and just looks better, overall. It's a Games For Windows Live game, too, so if you're dead set on playing the game with an Xbox 360 controller, you can do that on the PC, as well. Additionally, it has achievements, just like the 360 version, though they're kept separately--this means you could technically double up, play the game to completion on both the 360 and the PC, and have double the points as a result.

The 360 version is no slouch, though. It might not be quite as pretty as the PC version, but it still looks fine. The load times remain pretty reasonable. The PlayStation 3 version is below the 360 version, by comparison. The level of detail when you're in the wasteland or other areas where you can see for great distances isn't quite as good, the game seems to be a bit more aliased, and the frame rate isn't as smooth. Plus, the PS3 version of the game doesn't have any trophy support (yet), and the game actually freezes every time a status message, such as "so and so is online" or "DUDE HOW DID U GET FALLOUT 3 EARLY!!!!???" is on-screen. That's bad enough to make you want to log out of the PlayStation Network before booting up the PS3 version of the game."

I won't fucking believe it. I'm logging off PSN to play F3... Jesus Christ.

I still can't get a proper sense of how big the game world is. I don't know if it's small and dense, or large.
I remember Todd Howard said waaaaaay back that the size of the game world was somewhere between Oblivion and Morrowind.

In either case, that's pretty damn big.

Really? Because I actually remember him saying it was smaller than Oblivion's, but packed with a lot more shit to see and do.

That's why I'm a bit puzzled. There are some mixed signals.

They initially said it was going to be denser (good), but then it ballooned during development or something and now it's the same size as Oblivion (kind of not good?).

Let's see!

Where's gametrailer's review?
They fell off with their reviews. Tons of shit dropped over the past 2 weeks and the Fable 2 review only came out a few days ago, and today they put out Golden Axe: Beast Rider :lol

At least their retrospectives are ace

It's a bit smaller than Oblivion, I think, but it's jam-packed with things to do.

It's smaller in area but there are a lot more "landmarks". For instance, I was travelling towards a location somebody had told me about and on the way I noticed a fairly large building to the east. I travelled to that building and the usual "xxxx discovered" notification pops up. The world is definitely more packed, it's just not as big.

I can't just go to Gamestop now and grab one, without a preorder.... can I? :(

No Gamestop is very retarted on making you preorder copies, they'll say they only have enough copies for the preorder people when in reality they have a surplus.

Awesome.

So the PS3 version is slightly gimped, but nothing worth complaining about (assuming they fix the bugs). AND with no trophy support I have to reason to put off my purchase until after midterms.

Really good reviews all around. GOTY stuff for sure.

Dude again, just turn off in-game notifications. They'll most likely patch it soon too.

I know but still,to have the game launch with something like this is ridiculous.

Other than that I cant wait :D

Ya I agree, but I've been waiting too long for this to care lol, I can't wait for my own copy its tough watching someone else play it lol, it's gonna be a hard GOTY choice between this and MGS4.

Damn. I'm starting to realize how badly I want to buy this game now, but I've barely scratched the surface of Fable 2 and my backlog is 15 deep.
Crap ._.

That's what I figured. Sounds good.

Same. Luckily I finished Dead Space a while back, but I've only done 2 main quests in Fable 2 so far, I just bought LittleBigPlanet today, and I've also been playing Far Cry 2. Gamefly also recently sent me Saints Row 2 as a rental, and I literally haven't even opened the packaging for it yet.

This month is deadly to the ol' wallet.

Yeah, I agree, there are way too many games coming out. I still have a few sealed games that I have to open. On top of that I still have games from months and months ago that I have to beat. Ugh, it's making me go crazy.

This is the game that will make me upgrade my PC once more. I doubt it will make me happy even on my E6600 @ 3.2GHz, SLI 8800GT, 4GB, Vista 64 setup. Especially since I plan on running it on my HDTV.

No point in upgrading with that kind of system. Returns won't justify the cost.

DON'T DO IT MAN!

So my Wal-Mart has it in, it's 1 AM here now and I'm contemplating going against my better judgement/planned game budget and buying the 360 version...The game has caught my interest in the past, but more recently I just haven't been that excited for it considering the amount of games coming out in the next few months.

I placed it low on my 1-10 'gotta have day 1' chart. Is it just so good that a man like myself could live with himself if he were to further his debt for a game he hasn't been 100% on in the past?

Does Wal-Mart carry the collector's edition?

WTF. Dude, please that PC will run it easily.

I have a E6600 @ 3.2
Only 2gig of ram
and one 8800GTS 320mb

And I am sure it will run at max at 1280x1024.

It uses the same engine as oblivion and i maxed that out at 1080p with numerous mods and my rigs the same as yours.

You sure? The recommended settings indicate a 512MB GPU.

Actually, you're probably fine, nevermind.

My copy of Persona 3 FES is still sealed... wtf am I going to do?! Fallout, gears, CoD, Fable, L4D, Last Remnant, Valk Chronicles, LBP, MS2, *head explodes*

I'm pretty sure you are good.

Maybe upgrade to an E7200 those are cheap?

I wouldnt upgrade the 8800gt SLI unless you can get a GTX 280 for a good deal.

I have three times as many games to catch up on at this point. I ENVY you.

Yea seriously, that's my dilemma. Limited fundage yet SO MANY games coming out in the next few months. It's never been like this before, as far as I can remember. I don't know what to do, and when F3 was first announced I was really into it but as time went on I wondered if it WOULD just be Oblivion in post-apocalyptic D.C. (Not busting on Oblivion by any means, but I had my issues with it)

Same FPS as E6600 at 1600x resolutions.

No real point. (I did it though, bought one on launch day and did the testing).

Video encoding helps though.

I'm glad they brought back the Mysterious Stranger perk. 1UP details it as such:

1UP said:
Mysterious Stranger, for example, occasionally summons a trenchcoated, .44 Magnum-armed dude who kills your target and disappears, spaghetti Western guitar riff resonating in his wake.

Doesn't seem like he changes attributes/weapons based on your level anymore, but still, that is so mine.

ugh. i swear to god if i didn't have school in the morning i'd pull an all nighter with this shit. i ended my play session JUST getting out of the vault, long enough to see the achievement unlocked notice pop up and saved.

this game leaves me moist and wanting.

I didn't ask...but I'm sure they have a few copies. I've seen other CE's there...

I think I'm gonna go check out Wal-Mart to see if they have any copies of the CE.
