The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Wait till you get the Power Fist. That thing + VATS is fantastic, judging from the videos. Hopefully it's not nerfed as far as real-time melee goes.

this day is going too slowly. my pc copy awaits me at EB tonight (getting a boxed version of the regular... don't want to risk missing out on any mods...)

oblivion REALLY isn't my kind of game for a number of reasons too long to list. i have very high hopes here and i'll probably throw out some impressions later to digest how i feel about it and how i feel it compares to oblivion for someone that just couldn't get into it.

question that i couldn't see answered in the reviews... is the world streaming or does it load in chunks like oblivion did?

I haven't seen this anywhere yet -- is there any notable romance in Fallout 3? Obviously, I don't want anything spoiled, but it'll affect whether I want to play as my own gender or not (roleplaying romance with my own gender is... creepy).

I purchased a gaming laptop a month or so ago. I've seen the recommended specs for the PC version of Fallout 3 and I believe I'm in good shape but of course the specs are based on desktop hardware. I just want to be sure if I go with the PC version that I actually get better performance over my console. Here are my specs:

Intel Core2 Duo processor P8400 2.26 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache 1066, MHz FSB
4096 MB 1066 MHz DDR3 memory
Nvidia 9800M GTS 512 MB

I guess my main concern is the graphics card. I'm not sure what desktop graphics card that the 9800M GTS would be equivalent to. What kind of performance can I expect? Any information would be appreciated.

The 9800M GTS is one of the best laptop cards out there. Surely you knew that when you bought it? You'll be able to run the game fine.

Oh and I think it's equivalent to an 8800 GS.

Actually it sounds like you own the P-7811FX from Gateway. I do as well.

That is more than fine. You have no worries.

That's funny because I never took the starter pistol.

I let Amada keep it to protect herself and took a baseball bat. Then I later killed one of the Overseer's men and took HIS gun! Way better, no doubt.

This us another example of how awesome this game is because each player's experience is unique.

yeah, thats a good one. I have a Radeon Mobilty x1600 in mine, 512 ram on that with slower clock speed, with a similar CPU setup, and its awesome for games. I ran the witcher maxed out on it no problem.

That's pretty cool. I was considering doing that, but my character isn't skilled in melee.

GAF, help me decide if I should purchase this game. I pre-ordered the LE but am not certain if I will go pick it up or if I will wait and get the game when it drops in price at some point in the future.

I love Oblivion.
I like the post-apocalyptic setting.
I've never played Fallout 1 or 2.
I don't like the idea that I can't continue playing the game after the ending.
I have a huge backlog I could play instead (including Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon)

Yes that is my laptop but I wasn't aware that the 9800M GTS was that fantastic. I bought it because it was a very economical gaming laptop. I wasn't looking for anything top of the line; just something that could handle any of valve's Source games respectibly.

I'd have to say based on points 1 and 2 you should do it!

Just started this on 360 and it looks like it'll be as good as I thought it was going to be. Also, wow, the graphics are so much sharper compared to ES4 on 360, good stuff.

But that is a starter pistol.
I slaughtered everyone in that vault I could, barring the ones trying to make a run for it. When I left the vault I had five of those guns.

Gotcha, but in my defense, I never knew. I'm glad I did it now more than ever. :)

Can more of you post your builds, please? Just curious what sort of stats, skills, and perks people are playing with and how they like them so far. Thanks.

GS reviews up

9 on 360/PC, 8.5 on PS3.

It's a shame, in light of these impressive design elements, that the PlayStation 3 version is shockingly inferior to the others from a technical perspective. Although the Xbox 360 and PC versions display the occasional visual oddity and bland texture, these nitpicks are easy to overlook. Sadly, the jagged edges, washed-out lighting, and slightly diminished draw distance of the PS3 release aren't so easy to dismiss. We also experienced a number of visual bugs on the PS3. Character faces disappeared several times, leaving only eyeballs and hair; limbs on robots went missing; some character models had an odd outline around them as if they were cel-shaded; and the day-to-night transition may cause odd streaks on the screen as you move the camera around. This version doesn't even offer trophies, whereas the Xbox 360 and PC versions offer Xbox Live/Windows Live achievements.

you'll love it, especially moreso than the three backlog games you mentioned.

that was one minor problem I had with Oblivion- you couldn't plant your seed all over the land.

If this is the same Fallout from years gone, you should at least get to 'romance' some coked out, slumming JET-head. :D

Damn that was the quickest 11 hours of my life, fuck I didnt care for oblivion but this game is somthing else, im so hooked, buy this game everyone. three dog out

Well, just picked up my copy. Looking forward to diving in after I wrap up my first play- through in Fable 2. GS manager said they had a pretty good showing last night. Bodes well for sales and congrats to Bethesda, again.

P.S.

With Love Rayne S.

man if there is some hot lesbian action between a female MC and amata, i'm gonna do my best to unlock it. i doubt it though. this aint fable.

and as far as i can tell, the only M rated stuff about fallout 3 so far is just the gore and strong language. no really dirty stuff like in the older games. :(

Just bought it on steam!

One hour until steam rains a fuckton of awesome down on my computer.

Until then? Playing LBP!

Please guys help me. Should I buy the PS3 version (I generally prefer to play on the PS3), the 360 version (I hate how loud my 360 is) or the PC version (normally I don't play PC games)?
I've tried systemrequirementslab.com and my system should be ok. It's a Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz, 2048MB DDR2 667, GeForce 8800 GTS 512 with Windows Vista Ultimate. Would it look and play better on my PC than the PS3/360 version?

PC without a doubt

Your PC is fine and you'll still get all the achievements on your Gamertag if that is an issue for you since it's a LIVE enabled game.

Never really thought about it, are all games that are LIVE tied to your tag. Or is it just the games that are also on 360?

:lol

I honestly can't bring myself to purchase any new release on Steam.

you guys place too much importance on playing it the second it comes out.

learning to delay gratification is a virtue.

also, having a steam copy is far better than a physical copy even if you have to wait a couple extra hours.

Just Fallout 3 I think but hopefully others will do the same in the future

I love Steam, even just bought FarCry 2 on there but there is really no reason it's better than a retail copy of the game. No box, no manual, no preorder bonuses, and you have to spend hours downloading the thing. For what? So you don't have to drive to the store? It's not like most games even require you put a disc in your drive anymore.

So Chiggs, you like that shit or what?

I haven't been up on this thread so I prob missed your impressions.

How's it run?

JSnake said:
Yeah, just 33 more minutes until we can START the download. :/

They don't let you pre-download games any more? Haven't bought anything on Steam for a while now.

Chiggs said:
Oh, I think that's pretty subjective.

True. I still love collecting console games to fill up my shelf space.

Theres just something comforting about knowing that I could get on any PC or my hard-drive could get wiped and I would still always have complete access to my PC collection, hassle free.

I liked the melee combat a lot more than the real-time shooting. It's very Oblivion. Walking around the interiors with a flaming sword (don't do it outdoors or you'll get raped) is rather satisfying.

It runs so freaking smooth @ 1920 X 1200 on my 9800GX2 Q6600 rig, and that's with 2xAA and 8x AF. I'm over 60fps, period...no matter inside or out. If you go back a few pages you can see some pics, plus the graphical options.

So what's a good build again?

I'm:

Strength 5
Perception 6
Endurance 6
Charisma 5
Intelligence 6
Agility 7
Luck 5

I don't want things to be too difficult and I want to not be a melee fighter.

Maybe I should go

5
6
7
4
7
7
4

Yeah, I'll go that way.
