The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Hrm. If you're going to nuke Megaton, you may as well kill everyone and loot everything. Otherwise, logically speaking, it would all be obliterated, and even if it weren't, walking back in that area should lead to an agonizingly slow death.

I thought about that, too. I want to try it via accepting a quest and then killing the NPC, to see if I get the extra bonus of the reward, too (without having to actually go do the quest). Or maybe you don't even have to accept the quest, since another logical move would be to have the NPC already carrying whatever reward he was going to offer you (rather than him magically having it only once you accept the quest). Some have said that if you kill just one person, though, the entire town is on your ass. So I guess I'll have to see how that pans out in my game.

you get a live access code on the manual that's like a CD key. you put that in and sign in with the same passport account that you used when you joined xbox live. the achievements show up like any other achievements. you'll be able to see and voice chat with all your 360 friends while playing the game.

you won't be able to have your 360 signed in while playing the game that way though.

here's my gamercard. you'd never know i played it on PC.

Nice, thank you. That's a pretty cool feature.

Is there is benefits
From killing the FAMILY in the Blood Ties quest, or is there anymore quests or anything I can do with/for them!

Anyone know if agility affects your running speed? Or does anything? Because it feels (and looks, in third-person) like my guy runs in slow-mo, and his walk is literally at the speed of a crawl.

Edit: It's not an issue with being over-encumbered, either.

My framerate keeps going from 30+fps to downright unplayable...randomly. As in I can be in the middle of a fight where the where the game is running very smoothly, then suddenly it becomes unbearably choppy. This even happens indoors when I'm just walking around or talking to people. Setting the texture size to medium seemed to help for about five minutes, then it started up again...any ideas?

Sounds like your video card is overheating.

I took a left when I got out of the vault and went into a house
occupied by a woman. I forget what she told me to do, but it had something to do with Moriarty, as well as some caps ( think she gave me some). Anyways, all I really heard was Moriarty so I figured once I met up with him I'd have a dialogue option. Well, there was nothing, and I can't seem to figure out what I was supposed to do there, as there's nothing in my quest log.
Did anyone else experience this, and remember what the hell the point of it was?

Got the PS3 version yesterday. Outside of some weird shaking during the opening cutscene and the whole message freeze thing I think it looks great.

Oh and thank you Bethesda for making shoot R1 and VATS R2.

Are there trophies?

I've checked, it's not.

Now I've got a new problem. Good framerate in battle, but then when I use VATS the choppiness starts up again. Completely unplayable. The second the VATS screen goes away the framerate is back to normal. This happens even on the lowest settings :(

well, I happened upon that house differently. I
spoke to Moriarty first, trying to get info on where Dad went. My speech thingy failed, so he ended up asking for 100 caps that I didn't have at the time. My convo led to him telling me I could find this chick that owed him 300 caps, and "take care of her". Then I would have the money to pay him the 300 caps (yeah he jacked the price up) for the info. I went to the house, spoke to the girl, told her I would take her money and tell Moriarty I had killed her. She went for it and gave me the caps which I used to get the info from Moriarty. You can skip this step entirely by waiting for Moriarty to leave his office, then lockpick the bureau next to his computer to get the computer password, then log into his computer to find out where dad went.

god I love this fucking game.

Fantastic. I'll try the computer thing tonight.

This might sound like a horrible question but my wife is at home upset that she can not find a flashlight. It mentions it in the guide but does not say where to find it. So in the effort to save my marriage... where do you get the flashlight?

The fleshlight is built into the pipboy. For pc its holding down tab.

I was wondering the same thing. Stupid Silver. That's why I went to Megaton in the first place.

Hold down B. It's in the instruction manual AND the tutorial.

on the PS3 you hold down the "O" button and it turns on the flashlight. It's not the jump button, or the activate button, or the one you push to put your weapons away, it will be the other one (doesn't the 360 controller have 4 buttons also? lol i don't know)

Hold down whatever button is used to bring up the Pip-boy. For example, on the PS3 the Circle Button brings up the Pip-Boy. If you HOLD it down, it will activate the light on the Pip-Boy, thus giving you a "flash/flesh light".

I have a related question for those of you who have already been through the
school
in its entirety.

I'm playing on easy (no flaming pls), and found some incredibly good loot in the "tunnel" under the school, after killing all the ants. An automatic rifle and about 75 bullets or so for it. I was wondering if the loot is one of the differences between easy and other modes. If that's the case I'm considering increasing the dificulty level as the game has been easy even for easy thus far. Maybe it's because I'm a fallout vet I don't know...

The answer isn't really a spoiler. Straydog is asking if the difficulty level influences loot. The answer is no. What the difficulty slider does is adjust the amount of damage done to your character and to others, and adjust the XP you get for killing opponents. On easier levels, you do more damage to opponents, they do less to you, and you get less XP when you kill them. On harder levels, you do less damage to your opponents, they do more damage to you, and you get more XP when you kill them.

I have this same issue. Core 2 E8400, 8800GT, 2GB DDR800. What's your setup?

man, i had no idea there even was a flashlight. that will make things a lot easier!

Me neither, I remember during the tutorial they said something about holding down the button but I never figured it was a flashlight.

Just wondering if you get to repick your stats, appearance ect before you leave the Vault?

Same bug happens to me as well .

I encountered this in the exact same way.
She was a whore for Moriarty who ran off, taking some caps with her -- her share, she says. She thought Moriarty was after her and asks you to help. I said I would, so after I made it to Megaton and met Moriarty,
I was expecting a dialog option at the same point and was a bit confused when he made no mention of it. So... yes, I was wondering what the hell the point of it was.

Just got home with the pc version, installed it. But it crashes when I start a new game. Now updating my video drivers, hopefully it works . I hate when this happens..
