As a multiplatform owner, I usually tend to be a Sony Fanboy about these things and get the PS3 version of the game if it is identical... but it doesn't seem to be the case this time. Should this be my first 360 multiplatform game?

I've been going PS3 lately as well, except in the rare case where multiplatform includes PC, in which case I generally go PC.

This time, however, I think I'm going 360.

At first I was hyped for this game, but with the no DLC for PS3, and the news of the PS3 versions graphics not being as sharp, this has easily turned into a "buy it used at some point" game.
It will probably be good and I will feel like I got my twenty bucks out of it.

my hands-on impressions will hit the web soon. Can't wait for the embargo to lift so I can provide my full impressions.

When does this embargo lift? These embargoes always make me doubt the quality of a game. If you've got to keep such a tight hold on opinions and impressions of the game, that doesn't fill me with confidence. =/

I thought the actual review embargo was day and date, as in the 28th? Or are you talking a preview? Anyhow, what site do you provide reviews for btw?

I need some comparison pics damn it.

It's on Dell for $50CAD and it ends today, and really need to know if it's that bad as some people are saying, because the whole Orange Box thing made me think I was going in to play HL2 on the Xbox but it turned out to be fine. so some people may over exaggerate with these type of things or it could be the worst port ever made.

Disappointing if the reports of the PS3 version being technically inferior are true. My 360's optical drive is on death's doorstep so lately the only 360 games I've been buying are exclusives. That and the fact that Fable II should keep me busy on that console.

hands-on impressions / preview / first impressions... whatever you want to label it.

If you PM me, I'll provide you info on which publication(s) I write for.

The embargo, as I provided earlier in the thread, is October 28th at 12:01 am EST. So be prepared for all those fansites that have the game to put their reviews the minute the embargo lifts and the rest to follow suit when their business day begins.

Earlier on in this thread I provided a few impressions if you want to look them up. Surprisingly, it's pretty quiet around the web about Fallout 3 besides these reports about the PS3 vs. 360 versions. I only have the 360 version, so I have no opinion on the matter to contribute besides the 360 version looking great.

just picked it up with that deal on the 360 (I don't have a PS3), I really wouldn't worry some people in Gaf like to blow things WAY out of proportion by counting pixels and using stopwatches.

I have Orange box on the 360 and played on the PS3 at my buddies house, the difference was minimal (of course I did not have them side by side)

I think I'm going to have to take a chance on the PC version of this game. If it's so sluggish that I feel like upgrading my video card so be it.

I prefer PS3 in most cross platform games but it sounds like it's not up to par. Oh well.

I'm looking forward to more impressions to hopefully rekindle my interest, for some reason I've lost a lot of my hype for this title recently. I'm thinking of cancelling my preorder :(

I just bought the Xbox 360 version via the Dell.ca deal. I've never used Dell.ca before, but the $15 off was worth it to me, but hopefully the game arrives at my door within a day or two of the release date.

Normally I'd be inclined to pick up the PS3 version, but I didn't realize that there is 360 exclusive DLC and that made me decide to get the 360 version. Hopefully it's not just robotic horse armor?

Same here, already canceled it. Don't have time for it anyway, and since PS3 is my only option at the moment, it seems like this game can wait.

Yea I don't know anymore...With so many games coming out that I atleast want to consider, I really don't know what to make of this game...I just don't have the time or money for a game that I may not be 100% interested in.

The same reason any engine is used for a generation as it always have been. They aren't static, they get refined, better optimizations, improved upon with future graphical support/techniques and take into account newer hardware standards, so on and so forth. Trying to reinvent the wheel isn't always the most productive way of doings things. You technically reinvent the wheel and then improve the hell out of it making good use of the engine. Depending on the devs, some might push a use of a previous engine longer than others in regards to their time and resources.

Did you know the engine that pushed the hell out of the PS2 with the God of War games, started life as the engine that powered the racer Kinetica? You can bet the farm that the engine powering the sequel to Uncharted in like 2009 or something would be based on the original Uncharted engine from 2007.

I normally agree, but Naughty Dog is insane. It wouldn't be the first time they basically started from scratch, for no other reason then they are gods :p

When I played Fallout 3 a few weeks back, the thing that probably struck me the most (other than how much it kinda felt like Oblivion) was the interface, the menu system REALLY reminds me of the original Fallouts. I am still a little worried about how open the game is though, it might have just been the spot I started playing from (infact it was most probably that) but I just had the controller in my hand and had no idea as to what I should do first.

But the person I watched play before I got a chance was taking the asshole route (Both in gameplay and in the fact that he hogged the damn game for like 45min) and he blew up Megaton town, and that explosion was pretty epic. Then the guy showing the game picked up the controller and shot the old douche, who asked for the town to be blown up, in the face.

You guys are seriously blowing this way out of proportion. The PS3 version does not look that much worse I mean god I barely noticed a difference until I came in here and read all this crap. I just thought it looked it a little muddier.
But those saying they are sad and aren't getting the PS3 version really need to calm down.

I'll get it... just used and cheap. Bethesda doesn't want my money, based on their DLC decision.

This is what I don't understand. I'm chiming in late here, but this is really disappointing hearing that the PS3 version isn't looking/running great. :( Didn't Oblivion look/run well on the PS3? And Fallout 3 is using the same engine, right?

Can you honestly give a multiplat owner a reason to get the Ps3 version over the 360?

So your 360 doesn't explode?:lol

But really that's not what I'm saying, if you have both you should get it on 360.
I was just pointing out how you guys hyperbole everything.

I see what your saying, and I don't personally think the PS3 version is broken or anything, that's the one I actually tried out and it seemed fine - infact I would prefer to get the Ps3 version... just without Trophies, DLC, and ever so slightly worse performance, it would kinda make me a fanboy to get it on the Ps3.

Also, plz don't jinx my 360.

I was wondering when I'd see this. Almost made one myself TBH...

So F'ing pumped though. Got the 360 limited edition and I'm gonna grab a PC copy down the road for mods.

Anyone have impressions? I know people are playing it right now...

Sad to hear about the PS3 version.

If the graphics difference isn't much though, I don't think it should be a game-breaker. What does bother me however, is the lack of DLC and to a lesser extent, trophies.

Can anyone explain the DLC issue? Was it a decision by Bethesda, or is it actually paid for by MS?

Think again: why DLC becomes exclusive? Yes, only for money.

So that's the end of that.

Can you tell me how good the character creation is?

I obviously don't love the policy, but that's better than if they just decided they didn't feel like doing it for PS3.

In that case, I'd be filling their email server with HATemail.

Yeah, as much as I want vibrant colours and DLC, I really let my fear get the best of me. My fifth box is still going strong, but I am done if this one RRoDs (beaten wife syndrome, I really mean it this time!). Trying to move my collection off to the PS3 so it won't be so painful when it goes down in flames.

lol @ beaten wife syndrome........ LMAO

I haven't been able to find the answer to this question: Do your enemies level up as you level up? I hated that about Oblivion and it is what drove me away fom it.

I went back four pages and while this 360 vs. PS3 is mentioned I couldn't find the article.

This is what a friend sent to me, disregard if redundant.

Fallout 3: Graphically Inferior On Playstation 3

Oct 23, 2008 at 2:33 AM - Playstation 3 Magazine claims that Fallout 3 is at its worst on their favourite home console:

Our exclusive Fallout 3 PS3 review (from PSM3#107) has leaked onto the Internet and, as expected, a single sentence has been dragged out, beaten and interrogated under a spotlight. This one; "The PS3 version compares poorly to its Xbox and PC counterparts." Which, in the parlance of the Internet, obviously means; "THE PS3 VERSION SUCKS! XBOX WINS! ANOTHER CRAPPY PORT!" But that isn't the case. The PS3 version just looks SLIGHTLY WORSE than the other versions.
The PC version of Fallout 3 is gorgeous. The colours are vivid, the draw distance is endless, the textures are high-res and the lighting effects are beautifully subtle, especially when you're gazing over the Capital Wasteland at sunset. It's the best-looking of the three.

The Xbox 360 version's textures are noticeably rougher than on PC, and objects in the distance aren't quite as clear. It does, however, boast an impressively solid frame rate. The game is, otherwise, identical.

NOW, the PS3 version looks the same as on Xbox, but things in the distance are slightly jaggier/rougher, the textures seem 'muddier' up-close and the frame rate is choppier, especially during the last few story missions (which may be the same on Xbox, but we've not seen the equivalent scenes to comment). We won't spoil anything, but the set-pieces here are MASSIVE, and the engine quivers under the weight of what's happening.

So, really, the difference between the Xbox and PS3 versions won't hamper your enjoyment of the game in ANY WAY. High-res textures or not, it's still the same huge, epic, absorbing, brilliant adventure.

I recall the main quest enemies leveling up, so whenever you want to complete sections of the main quest, it's a challenge. All other areas are level set. If you wander into an area of high level encounters you will have a tough time unless you go somewhere else, get more powerful, and then come back.

I asked this in the beggining of the thread.
Its a combination, if you enter an area the enemy lvl will stop to increase, so you can get back and kill them if you die all the time.

No, from what I heard the EX-producer say, you can go in areas with really strong enemy's and you have to level up to kill them... so they stay the level they are.... I guess, not 100% about this. I'm pretty sure I heard this in an interview somewhere....

Leveling system has changed. You'll definitely have points where you get your ass kicked in areas...but as you level up, you'll be able to return the favor.

No, I turned in my hands-on impressions before the release date. The full review will go live when embargo lifts.

I thought DLC is 360/PC only because of their engine. IIRC, they had a hell of a time trying to make their DLC modules work on the PS3 for Oblivion, and pretty much couldn't figure out how to do it. The way their system is set up, it was running into RAM issues on the PS3.

Really been curious about this game, especially since I've never ever played a Fallout game despite being a big PC gamer back then...

Wished that it came out much earlier or around a time that there was nothing else coming out - I'd hate to not put 100% of my attention into a game that needs it like I think this would...

This has probably been mentioned before, but I noticed this morning that Amazon is doing release date shipping for Fallout 3. I guess that's how I'll be getting it.

No official word on when the embargo is up?

Money...only money and no more...

What reason is there to have another 360 vs PS3 debate? I'm sure most people who own both were already going to buy it for the 360 because it was the lead platform, the exclusive DLC, and Achievements. And I'm sure the differences between the two have been blown way out of proportion, they always are.

Do I understand the story of Fallout3, when I never played a Fallout-game before?
I think probably a majority of people playing FO3 will have either never played Fallout, or only played it briefly. I'm sure they will either bring you up to speed on past events, or more likely, just kind of ignore them. Tell a story that doesn't involve a lot of specifics from the past games.

what was weird about oblivion ps3 was that the open areas looked better on ps3 while caves dungeons and stuff looked worse and had way more framerate problems.
