The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Played this game for about 6-8 hours.
Went in the exact opposite direction as the town and reached the very top of the map. Then it said I couldn't go any higher :(

Found this
REALLY FUCKING POWERFUL ALIEN PISTOL, IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET MORE AMMO?
. I doubt it :0

Used the aforementioned to kill really tough guys way higher level than myself. Fun times.

In all honesty, this game is Oblivion with a Fallout skin and better combat. It's really fun, but it's still Oblivion. Luckily the combat is so much fucking better that it saves the game for me. I'm happy that I was able to go adventuring all the way to the top of the map and find a whole bunch of interesting locations, like
The Republic of Dave, is there any way to make Dave lose? All of my attempts to pickpocket fail, and I don't want that fucker to win. Is there any way to have someone else win without pickpocketing?
.

Any other tips and tricks?

awesome game.. i wish they would release a patch for the freezeups. No its not my 360, its all over the fallout 3 forums.

I beat it the other day, 52hours.. every quest done except the nuka-cola quantum.. can't find all of those.

Does your karma get a substantial hit then? I'm a very goody-two-shoes character, and really don't want it ruined because of this quest.

I dunno how to tell just how "bad" or "good" you are besides the little portrait? I assume it does get a major hit, though.

I am still annoyed at how much trouble I'm having finding bobby pins. I have almost 3000 caps and nothing I want to purchase except more pins. My kingdom for some bobby pins!

Alright, thanks. Will make a separate save and see what happens.

I'm in the same boat. For a long time, I had none at all. I'd keep being told to go buy some, but no one ever had them. I eventually found some in a random house.

Try around the Arlington Monument, at night. The ammo glows blue.

If your on the PC version just call the console and do these commands:

player.moveto 3B59
prid 3B59
resurrect

Here's some shots that I just took of my char

I have hundreds of em... my lock picking is only at 20 though.

I'm curious what makes a hard lock more difficult to pick? Do the pins break instantly if you don't have it in the right spot when you move the screwdriver? Do you have to move the pin multiple times while spinning the lock?

Does that tag your game for cheating and stop you from gaining achievements or anything? If not than I'd like you to have my children

The area that the pin needs to be in to successfully pick the lock gets smaller as the difficulty rises.

I don't get the letterbox resolutions.

I have a 1920x1200 monitor (16:10) but I want to run it lower. So why does choosing 1600x1000 make it letterboxed (black bars on top and bottom)? Can I fix this?

You'll find some ammo in the Brotherhood Outcasts base, they'll all go hostile on you for entering though, unless I missed some quest where they let you in.

It just determines the amount of leeway you have with picking the lock. A very easy lock might let you be something like 30 degrees off, while a very hard might make you have to be within 3 degrees.

Awesome. I love it when I come across a lone squad of outcasts or steel guys in the wasteland. They're so fucking tough and badass. When I see them like this walking in the wasteland I get this sudden and short proud and safe feeling, like I want to salute them. Set it as my new desktop background.

Nice. If you like I can send you the uncompressed picture. It's 5MB though. :lol

Sure. :)

If you come across steels or outcasts in the wasteland then take some more pics.

God damn it. Spoilers for the Tenpenny Tower quest.

I just spent a good 20 minutes running around the tower convincing everyone to let the ghouls move in, and when I went back to tell Roy Phillips, him and his gang start fighting me, for no reason. Is there any way to fix this bug? I'd rather finish this quest without losing any karma

Think i've fucked up the Reilley's Rangers quest.

Went all the way through the station, crossed the road, reached the hospital, out the roof and to the hotel. Took down a bunch of super mutants, looted the place up and found a Protectron droid lying there. Looted him naturally, and found a Fission Battery. It weighed me down so I threw it.

I get to the roof of the hotel, and the guy tells me I now need that battery, so I go back downstairs to the droid i've already looted, and it's gone, because, naturally, i've already picked up the battery and thrown it away.

I tried fast-travelling to somewhere to find one but it won't let me. Help? Will it respawn at all?

Unless I'm missing something, those only come into play when you get a certain schematic, rather than a quest. Though I guess it could be both, too.

Also, I've personally been having some issue finding a lot of side quests to do after detonating Megaton and finishing Moira's stuff. Blood Ties somehow got screwed up for me off the bat since I arrived at Arefu and the locals hated me and attacked me, so that's done. I finished Moira's book and am still working on the Android quest. I also recently did Stealing Independence (I found the Bill of Rights, too, but haven't given it to anyone yet). The Android, the main quest, and finding a new home for Billy are the only active quests in my pip-boy at all right now, and it's been like that for a while.

Is there another place where you can get a series of subquests similar to Moira's, or are they basically all individually found?

You probably pitched it somewhere near by, it should still be on the floor somewhere.

Just kill him and give a bum a few waters. You're much better off if you ever want to return to Tenpenny.

I thought as much- now it's just a case of tediously crouching down and clicking everything.

For the record, any old fission battery will do. Doesn't have to be that particular one. So if you have one tucked away in your house or have that robot factory on fast travel, do that (you will have to leave the hotel to fast travel though).

This is good advice. Especially if you have a house in tenpenny tower and want to keep using it.
I let the ghouls invade, but even after eveyone is dead it still won't let me back into my suite, says its temporarily unavailable. I even killed Roy and all the ghouls and it still said that.
Had to reload a previous save....

I never even thought about helping the ghouls out, I wanted my crib nice and clean. Imagine how bad the ghouls smell.

Played Fallout 3 up to the point where I rendered Megaton into a smoking ruin... then I went back to the ruins and I saw Moria... I actually felt bad... I saved my game and moved on to Gears of War 2... I beat the quite excellent campaign... played a couple of matches.. not online because I had the leaked NXE... so I decided to move back into Fallout 3... but started a whole new game... and the bomb hasn't been disarmed... but I reported Mister Burke to Luca Simms... and Burke killed him in the back... of course I killed Burke right away.

I'm back into Fallout 3 already.. hah

Where do i go to get the Nuka-cola quantum quest? Ive been picking them up all game and almost have 30.

The Nuka-Cola Challenge Quest:
There's a town called Girdershade. In it you'll find the Nuka-Cola Museum, run by this chick. She'll pay ya 30 caps per Quantum, up to 30, in which you'll get a reward of Nuka-Cola Grenade plans. However, after you get the quest, the other denizen of the town, a dude who's her protector, stops you as you leave and basically says he's trying to get into her pants and wants you to deliver the Quantum to him instead, so he can in turn give them to her in order to impress her.

The upside to this is that you can, with high enough Speech, presuade him to pay you double what she was going to. In my first turn in (I think I had like 12 on me) I made 800-something caps. It's a good money maker.

It's all about getting your own place in Tenpenny's and having a work bench installed there. Makes the whole weapon creation process so much easier and quicker, especially if you've been using your room to store the random stuff you pick up. You have everything right there at your fingertips.

The detox lab you can get is pretty awesome, too. It detoxifies you for free every time you're addicted to something, which is nice, and it also creates random chem products for you after 24 hours. The first time I used the lab I set it to create something, "waited" for 24 hours, and then to my surprise it had created a mentat for me. Pretty rare to come across those without having to pay for them.

I know this questions been asked, but I have yet to see and answer for it, I don't have a house yet, and the way I'm doing the game I'm not going to blow up megaton for a long time, and I was wondering if I put all my stuff in a (metal box or what have you) will it disappear or stay in their forever!

Blue containers should be safe, just avoid the red ones. I've been using Springvale School's lockers for a good ten hours before moving my stuff into Tenpenny Tower.

So are the housing themes worth the caps? I was thinking about going for a lab theme to match the crazy scientist girl I'm playing as.
Each theme is supposed to come with a skillbook as well.

Creepy, springvale school was the first hostile place I entered and it was at night. Very scary.

Playing a female, I tried hitting on Bittercup in Big Town (telling her I was single), but she told me to talk to her later. Maybe my Speech and Charisma aren't high enough? :lol

I checked them all out on my Megaton pad and decided they were all useless, they just take up space.

If you've seen Eulogy Jones' pad in Paradise Falls; well that's basically the Love Machine one - just that bed in the centre of your front room with the huge neon copulating couple hanging above it.

Vault looks like worn bits of the vault (duh). Pre-war is pretty nice; you get a couple of cool sofas and a (non functional, but pristine) TV set on the bookcase. Wasteland explorer puts a non functional motorbike up in the small box room upstairs as well as some other random junk.

Scientist looks okay, but huge waste of caps for what you get IMO and the mainframe units all over the place really cramp the place - you can try before you buy by saving before you speak to the vendor then reloading if you're unhappy.

Oh and none of them change the fabric (walls, etc) of your house, at least in Megaton - it's still the same tin shack but with different junk in it!

Finally, someone else agrees. I was playing at like 2 in the morning, in the dark, after reading Shadow Out of Time by H.P. Lovecraft, and it was nighttime in the game, and I went into that basement, and saw
all the bodies hanging from meathooks, and in cages. I was relieved I didn't see anything worse than raiders and dogs, but I still left without exploring a lot of it. I'll go back later.

But man...I couldn't bring myself to sleep there or use it as a temporary base, I think. :P And on that note, someone said to hold off on doing the Power of the Atom quest since the consequences are permanent. Are there any quests or important things that you miss out on if you do it early? I'd just do it for the house (I assume this isn't a major spoiler, since most people know about it), but I don't want to do it too early if it changes a lot in the game.

Kind of wondering where I am in the game. Can anyone give me a little help? Big spoilers in the black!
Dad just died. How much of the main storyline do I have left?

Thanks! Love the game so much, it's all I think about when I'm at work. Must go home and play.... I think I'm kind of close to being able to wear power armor, which I'm so pumped for.

Didn't even go into the basement :'(, I was scared and weak, saw there were more raiders after the two I killed and went back outside.

Like 3 missions or so, an hour or two left, if I remember correctly
