The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

I don't know if I am doing quests I shouldn't yet but I never have enough ammo for my powerful weapons and never enough to heal with.

Any tips?

A little late to this but I'll answer too since I went through exactly the same thing.

The quest that changed all my ammo problems was going to Galaxy News Radio. On the way things can be tricky, but I was able to make it with a few grenades a couple pistol rounds. The most important thing that happens is you run into a group of Brotherhood of Steel soldiers (Lyons Pride specifically) and with them heading to the same place you can pretty much hang back and just loot every single super mutant fallen. That way you pick up a lot of ammo for your hunting rifle, the most important weapon (IMO) for the early game. Then you get sent into the heart of DC and your ammo shoots up from there and never comes back down again. At least for me.

Also invest in the sneak skill. Even at low moderate levels it can let you choose to engage a group or avoid them. A common tactic for me was when I saw super mutants was not to snipe them from afar, but to sneak close to get a high percentage head shot and down one immediately and saving your AP for the rest.

If you have ammo problems, pick up the Scrounger perk @ level 8. You will never come close to running out of ammo again, and whatever money problems you have will probably end as well, since you can sell off ammo for a decent amount of caps.

Easily one of the most useful perks in the game.

I suggest letting the Ghouls over run Tennypenny Tower. After I did that, I never had to worry about caps or ammo. You also don't lose any karma for stealing anything, because everyone is fucking dead. DO IT! Also, after you give all the keys to Crowley, pick pocket them back. No Remorse!

Just left Little Lamplight... I'm in the vault now. This game is so good!

Will get when I hit 9.

So what's the point of
Vault 108?

I'm halfway through the game but I've already reached level 20... question is the game keeping track of the extra experience I'm earning from now on? (in case a future patch removes the limit) bc it feels somewhat dull to go for side-missions now.

Don't believe so. That's why I beat the main storyline and made a second character to continue doing side missions.

I want to get this game for my PS3 but I heard it's the weakest version. Is that true or a bunch of hoo-haa?

It's true. Get the PC version if possible, should be cheaper, has better graphics and now mods will pop up soon enough.

There's the usual splitting hairs about frame rate or texture quality. But a friend of mine has it (I'm on 360) and any differences seem minor. Bug and stability is a problem with both versions.

However, there will be NO dlc (some of which looks pretty impressive) for the PS3. Bethesda's been money hatted by MS.

Doh, just encountered my first major 'crash' / bug. Following
Liberty Prime
and shot at some soldiers... first shot almost killed him, second took him out but the game is stuck in VATS. Bummer!

God, Vault Tec HQ was an absolute bitch to get too. I think I went the long way too (from the South of DC all the way up the metro).

So... update... Head of State was messed up and You Gotta Shoot Em In The Head was messed up and Tenpenny Tower always ended up with Tenpenny disappearing and dying. These aren't gamebreaking bugs, but certainly quest / achievement-breaking bugs.

In my old, now discarded save, Hannibal showed up and they fought some dogs, then Hannibal started wandering the wrong way. The slavers were already dead, but the gun-toting soldier ex-slave chick with him kept saying that she's waiting for Hannibal to give the word to go kill the slavers. >_<

Went back a few hours and here's the thing: do not, repeat, DO NOT kill the slavers in the Lincoln Memorial before going back to talk to Hannibal. Kill them when Hannibal shows up at Northwest Metro. Do the last part of the quest all at once, no skipping around, and save often. Fast travel to NW metro, kill anything and everything hostile nearby (important!), then tell Hannibal to wait while you go kill the slavers. This is actually a very good time to use mines prolifically since they're not initially hostile.

I wonder when / if Caleb will ever have the head back on the statue.

Also: a gun that fires 8 tactical nukes at once = lolololawesome!

Is Head of Sate the buggiest quest in the game. I had to reload and do it five times before it worked properly.

yes it is. there are several points where the quest can break on you. make multiple saves

Alright, main quest spoiler (something about a bird and a rock):

I just arrived to Raven Rock, and the President released me from the statis lock. He makes sure no one attacks me, but when I follow the quest marker to the second floor, he orders everyone to attack me. WTF, is it supposed to be like this?

No, that's the Colonel who orders you dead, not the President.

if you're hunting for bobbleheads, don't forget to pick up the energy weapons one there. it's the only time you can grab it

That's the only one I'm missing, so I'm already making sure I don't miss it. My collect-a-ton OCD also makes sure of that.

I only went hunting for them after finishing the main quest and when I looked at the location list I was SO relieved when I noticed I had that one. :lol I'd have to start from quite a few savegames back if not. :s

I rented this for PS3 and only made it to Megaton before I had to send it back. I want to keep playing the game but, I'm wondering if I should get the PS3 or PC version. Thoughts?

I have a Core 2 Duo 3.0 with 4gbs of low-latency SLI-ready RAM along with a 896MB GTX 260 and Velociraptor drive :lol

PC version times 1000.

For PC Users: Friendly's Bunker.

Fast travel to Jocko's Pop and Gas Stop down in the southwest corner and from the warp point head straight ahead to wards the radio mast on the hill. Once you get there stand under the mast and there's a little gap in the rocks surrounding the hill base in roughly the direction of Tenpenny tower - down in that gap is a piece of fallen radio mast bridging to the other side of the chasm. Hop on it and cross over, then look to your right for a drainage ditch manhole entrance.

This used to be just a drainage ditch bunker, but I've turned it into a home with a nuka Cola Machine, Jukebox, Infirmary (in the can) and loads of storage. There's also a large tunnel room that I use as my armory with loads of room to lay out your unique weapons and armor and a couch to sit on and admire them all!

There's also an updated ultimate armor: T52-a Power Armor, 3 pieces, main armor gives +3 Strength, -1 Agility +25 Rad Resistance, helmet gives +3 Perception, -1 Charisma and the powerpack gives +50 AP, -10 Unarmed. It's really long-lasting and should be able to be repaired by any power armor or helmet; the backpack should be repaired by power armor pieces (It's not degraded enough for me to check the repair properly yet, but it does show up as repairable).

The armor isn't in Friendly's Bunker - it's elsewhere in game (hint: same location as the Explosives Bobblehead).

Drop the .esp into the game's Data folder and load from the 'Data Files' option in the launcher.

Fallout 3 silky smooth at ultra settings for you... and for cheap (PC version dude)

Just finished the game minutes ago, 44 out of 50 achievements gotten. The last two main quests were so-so,
the romp with Liberty Prime was kickass, gotta love those comments about communists and whatever. But the endgame itself was awful, ugh.

I need some help GAF. I'm in Megaton and need to talk to Moriarty and the old Water Processing maintenance guy, but I can't find either. I look around town and go to the buildings where they should be, but no dice. Why is Fallout hiding them from me?

I saw that the DLC will cost $10 for 360. Has anyone heard about the cost for PC? Any concerns about downloading it, having to reformat and not being able to access it again?

Uh did anyone had a bug like this: I went to the
Underworld
barber and when I start to browse through the hair my face suddenly changes...a little bit, but still quite noticeable though.

This game is weird, sometimes.

During my last playthrough, which lasted over 50 hours, I never, ever once heard Three Dog reference the songs that he was playing. Now, with my new playthrough, he's talking about the songs all the time, mentioning who they're by and giving little comments about them. What the hell? Why is this only happening now on my new playthrough?

Also, half the time he talks about a song that he doesn't even play.

Lost Cross last night
liberating paradise falls, damn car near the entrance blew up and took her with it. pretty awesome though, i thought about loading my save but then i was like cross would've liked to go out like that. shouldnt have fought right away but that damn dialogue option of 'i let my gun do the preaching' was too good to resist

I don't know about moriarty but i know the water guy is prone to killing himself. check the ground around the water plant to see if he didn't fall off a walkway. Mine died like that along with some others. Recently it's like a 'let's see who's dead' game whenever I return to megaton.

Wait, what? I've never encountered him talking about the music either...
