The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Finally got my 2nd character, a super evil big guns/energy weapons/explosives bitch to
when the Enclave appear at Project Purity.

Finally have decent weapons for her. Now the real fun begins.

And I'm already getting pangs to start a super good melee/unarmed ninja character.

So much to do, so little time.

Beat the main quest earlier..gotta admit, for as great the the package was, this last mission really left an awful taste in my mouth. I need to let it digest a bit before I can give an all out review. It's definitely still my second favorite game this year, and thank god they figured out how to implement sidequest that were actually interesting (Bioware needs to take note of this for ME2), but holy hell was that last mission a stinker.

Is there a New Game +? Also, is there a reason why you can't level about 20 yet the counter still shows level 21 on it?

Because the third DLC will increase the level cap.

I got a copy for PC from my family today (I've already played it but now I have it for ma pc :) ). I'm sort of disappointed that there is a cd-check, even though I'm signed into live with my cd key.

Cracking the cd-check doesn't compromise the cd key for patches, etc., right? Should I just man up and put the damn dvd in the drive? I assume I'd receive patches since it's all done via the live service. Anyone try this?

Torn on whether I want to get this for 360 or PC.

360 would let my roommates, who've bought every other game for our 360, play it too.

PC would let me mess around with GECK, and probably put in thousands of hours rather than hundreds (assuming GECK is good).

What exactly does that GFW key do?

It basically lets you sign in to xbox live with your gamertag associated with your xbox gamertag (or you can just make a new one if you don't have one). While activated you can message your friends, chat, get achievements, etc. It's really neat and it's all free. You also receive patches via the gfw live updater as well.

I started the game last night. Amazing beginning. I played up until the part where you finally
leave Vault 101, and come out to see the wasteland.
Can't wait to play more.

Instead of giving Crowley the keys I just when to the fort and tracked down the T-51. Badass armor, even with the noticeable loss of agility it has pretty insane DR. Though Ranger armor was pretty good too.
what enemies did you encounter inside fort constantine?

Oh and the route to the Republic of Dave (at leas the route I took) is very fun. I came from the southwest and ran into multiple ambushes and cool events. The radio tower... ;-(

same here. Took a NE path from some location and it was fun just getting there. A few days ago it was weird. I tried to from megaton to vault 101, literally a few steps away and I had to fight off a deathclaw and a talon company patrol just to get to the stupid place. Have you guys taken a look at the protest signs right outside of the vault seal? "Let us in motherfuckers" and other funny signs were all over the floor.

Found an easy way to go from very good to evil to acquire Clover without killing anyone(just go in an out of a red locked computer terminal). It's a mixed bag having followers. they can't jump so you can't take shortcuts. I like to stalk and snipe, but the second they see the target they go nuts, so half the time i have to tell them to stay put. They use a lot of ammo if you give them some, so I just have their default weapons on.

Clover is crazy though. Went to vault 106 or 108, forgot which one, and one of the residents opened fire on us and ran away. She chased the guy and killed him, and then kept walking forward, finding and killing anyone in her path. That's after I tried to run backwards so that she could follow me and telling her specifically to follow me. No choice but to run ahead of her and quickly kill whatever was on that floor. Some slave she is.

I went melee originally with my second character, but I found it so boring.

I did that first but the character ultimately was more big guns than anything else.

Next character will be evil female sniper.

Damn you can only have 1 follower?

I dont want to get rid of Fawkes, is he the best one?

In a word, yeah, to both.

There's some bug where you can get a follower, get Dogmeat, kill Dogmeat, and then you can get a second. Never messed with it, though.

I had Charon, Dogmeat, and Cross for a good long stretch of the game. Later, I couldn't get her to rejoin me when I had Dogmeat and Fawkes, nor could I get Charon to rejoin.

I reckon it was a bug. In any event, I'll probably like having ol' Jericho at an early level.

It's pretty shitty how Jericho is in the first town, anyone can have Charon for caps but you have to get deep within DC to get him, the other evil NPC is available as early as Charon and for the same price but easier to get to, and the good NPCs are only available at damn near the end of the game.

Has anyone else noticed the line of cell phones in the middle of the streets? Whats up with those?

Don't think they are suppose to be cellphones... they do look like them though.

The area around, and inside, is almost exclusively dominated by robobrains and Sentry Bots. With Brains patrolling outside, and Sentry Bots inside at major passageways.

Enter from the CO quarters (looks like a shack next to the personnel offices) and by using the passage to the silos inside you can bypass a lot of the guards in the base.

Still, pulse grenades are recommended.

Also, there's a nuke still in the silo and the launch codes can be obtained. :D
But it fails to properly launch :-(

Heh, I think they're what we call Cat's Eyes in the UK. They're the bright dots lining the road that reflect your car's headlights. I'm not sure what they're called in the US or elsewhere :)

Cat's Eye on wiki. Seems they're called Bott's Dots in the US.

I just got this on Christmas and like it a lot so far, it took awhile to adjust to the combat but I'm used to it now.

But, did something mess up? I saved because I didn't want to be bad and
blew up Megaton, then quickwarped there and the survival guide girl was a Ghoul and talked to me. Ever since, the screen gets blurry and the noise muffled every few minutes. At first it seemed like an aftereffect of the nuke, but it never stopped and got really annoying.

Dear GAF,

I really fucked up my GOTY vote. (well not horribly since Braid was number 1 on the ballot).

I hadn't really played much of this, but figured "eh, Elder Scrolls with guns" and moved on.

HOLY SHIT. This game is awesome. Im not very far into it
I just nuked megaton, and am in downtown DC looking for my dad
but holy shit this game is fucking awesome. Ok, back to it :D

So I finally beat the game
and I am kinda disappointed with the ending. I mean, number 1, for some reason I was under the impression you'd be able to keep playing after the ending, like in fallout 2....otherwise, I would have done more side stuff. number 2, I was letdown by the fact it didn't get into town specifics on the endings, for all the good deeds I did, letting me know if my good deeds really effected the town's future....etc UGH....I don't know, but I feel like the ending sucked actually....It was one of the best rpgs I have played except for that...oh well, thankfully there is some good dlc coming

:lol yep, she did the same kind of things with me as well, I'm on my third play though, and this time no more followers for me! I don't need the extra stress ;)

oh, here some interesting stats for the followers

I just started playing this; the first town I found is Megaton and I wanted to immediately detonate the town's bomb. how soon can do that? do i need to be at a certain level or finish some quests first or can I blow it up high sky as soon as I first enter it?

go to the bar at the top of the city, talk to the guy in the hat. He will give you the detonator. Go set it on the bomb, and travel to tenpenny tower (it will be a spot on your map). Go to the roof of that building and BOOM

Right away
, talk to Mr Burke in the bar, then take mentats if your explosives skill isn't high enough and then ... boom but your going to miss out on some stuff in that town..

edit: to slow

but your going to miss out on some stuff from that town

Have a question. I'm in the beginning of the game where you take the G.O.A.T. test. Am I encountering a bug? I sit down and nothing happens. Teacher says to begin but I'm just sitting here doing nothing while everyone else is taking the test.

Sounds like a bug. Try standing up and sitting back down.

Fallout 1 ended abruptly after defeating the Master and his Lieutenant. You could go after them in either order, but once that's done, game over.

In Fallout 2 once you went to the oil rig, that's a point of no return, and when you leave the oil rig, the game ends.

That exact same thing happened to me today, on my first playthrough. Not a good impression. :lol I had to reload my old save. :(

Can't get out of the chair.:lol Reloaded my save 3 times and the same thing happens every time. I just ended up telling him I'd skip the test and selecting the stats myself.

Did you go into the same chair again? It happened to me in the first chair of the right row. I reloaded and raced to get a different chair, worked fine then.

I started a new game today because I apparently missed out the Level 8 achievement. and the first thing I did was find the
blaster
. I am level 5 in 2 hours. This game is seriously amazing.

Okay, I did pretty much everything possible in Megaton and moved on with the main quest. It's pretty awesome so far, but I must horde way too much stuff because I'm at around 215 weight which is close to encumberment. Is it safe to sell off a bunch of the scrap stuff(the part of the menu that lists the baseball glove, paintguns, scrap metal, etc.)?

Also, are there any tips for hacking and lockpicking? Especially lock picking, because I fuck that up horribly.

I'm at 6.5hours and only lvl 4 heh. All I've done so far is the Survival guide quest, nearing the end of that. Don't even have enough caps to pay for my dad's info.

Does anyone know where Walter is for the pipe fixing quest? I can't find him for the life of me and it looks like an easy 200 caps.

Walter.. when you first enter Megaton, head to the right. The water treatment building will be close.
