The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

3 hours in I was like "WTF is so special about this game..."

15 IN Now "Oh Shit this is good!" Playing on the 360 so I can get the DLC as well. Haven't even gotten lose to beating it, and already I'm looking forward to the DLC :)

Huge disappointment that it's not possible to play beyond the ending.

The story is second to the gameplay, yet it has to ruin everything and all you get is
some slides and a voice-over telling you how you played.
.

I guess if you prepared the game for DLC, it all make sense. What bullshit. Why even put so much effort and time into building your character then?

I still have a save game from Raven Rock, would it be possible to do everything else after exiting Raven Rock?

Right now I have a save game right after leaving Raven Rock but before returning to Lyons, since I have a feeling that's right near the end. So I took a break from the main quest to finish the subquests, get all the bobbleheads, etc. I just have to do that quest with the freed slaves, then go beat the game and I'm done done done with everything. 55 hours... not as long as I thought it would take either.

I just started playing this; the first town I found is Megaton and I wanted to immediately detonate the town's bomb. how soon can do that? do i need to be at a certain level or finish some quests first or can I blow it up high sky as soon as I first enter it?

They're right you will miss out on some things in the town but I did the same thing. Didnt do any of the sidequests for Moira or whatever. I do recommend getting the bobblehead if there is one and any nuka cola quantams if there are some. I think I missed out on those two trophies/achievements. Didnt hamper my enjoyment of the game though since I was evil most of the game, now I'm at 80 hours in and I have a bunch of bad ass guns, a bad ass follower, and over 26k in caps.

Play the game how you want to play it, that's what I did and it is quite possibly my favorite game of all time. Bold statement but I'm on 2 hours of sleep today because of this game.

Man I love Fawkes, he's so awesome. I can explore freely now since he's got my back. Too bad I hit level 20 so long ago, I'm still holding off on the last mission until I can explore the whole map.

Behemoth questions
ok I got the one at evergreen mills and the one that spawns at gnr if you skip a couple of quests...how many more are there?

Yeah, he's never been in there in the 20 or so times I've checked. =\

The first time I found him was in the bar.

He gets bugged.

He disappeared in my game after I found the Outcasts.

Fawkes is a she.

Hour 34.

This game is falling in my estimation by the minute. It's really, really bad in some respects, and damn mediocre in most.

Then why are you still playing? If you're playing that long, then there must be something you find engaging about it.

Anyone know if there's a mod that opens up the entire map? Or a mod to get the perk that does it? Already beat the game, started a new one and I just want to check out all the shit I didn't see the first time.

-5-

1. Evergreen Mills, in the cage
2. In front of GNR, part of main quest
3. Outside of Takoma Industrial Park, take DuPont East Metro to get there
4. Follow the railroad tracks NE of Evergreen Mills, you'll see some tipped over train cabooses, in one of them, is a shopping cart with a teddybear. Take the bear out of the cart, then walk around the area for a bit.
5. In the Capitol building

To reveal everything on the map, press ~ to open up the console, and just type tmm 1.

If that's what you mean, that should do the trick.

He's probably dead. That's a known bug. When you quick jump to Megaton, sometimes there's the possibility someone is not standing where he is supposed to be, and falls from a very high distance. Moriarty and Walter both have fallen to death in my game.

Yes. The "point of no return" is supposedly when you enter the building where the ending happens. If you don't enter, you can still leave and do other stuff. If that doesn't work (I haven't tried it), then I'm 100% certain that until you
speak to Lyons saying that you're ready to leave with the robot,
you can still do everything in the game.

Ok yeah, I waited at the water plant 2 hours at a time throughout an entire day, Walter still never showed up. Fucking lame.

Anyhoo, I'm dying a lot, I can't even get to where the quests I need to do are because raiders always kill me on the way. Their accuracy at long range owns mine. I bumped it down to easy and now I feel like a bitch. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I did pretty much everything possible in Megaton and moved on with the main quest. It's pretty awesome so far, but I must horde way too much stuff because I'm at around 215 weight which is close to encumberment. Is it safe to sell off a bunch of the scrap stuff(the part of the menu that lists the baseball glove, paintguns, scrap metal, etc.)?

Also, are there any tips for hacking and lockpicking? Especially lock picking, because I fuck that up horribly.

You can safely sell off most of the stuff from that section yes. However don't sell the scrap metal or pre-war books as these can be used in a couple of small sub-quests. Nothing essential though. And just so you know, if you don't yet know the use for scrap metal then you haven't done everything in Megaton :D

A couple of times I've found Walter by entering the processing plant and then leaving again, he is then leaning against the railing. I think there may be a glitch where he falls off the walkway so check below!

As for the raiders, just sneak as much as possible, and use cover as much as you can, hide and move away from the raiders and let your VATS replenish, then pop out and use it to get a few shots off, then repeat. Also try running away through doorways and putting down a mine, that way the enemies are channeled into them.

Edit: Also go for arm shots, cripple an arm and they will drop their weapon.

The raiders will usually charge you once they see you, just hide behind something and hit them with vats once they get close enough. Long range vats really sucks in the beginning.

Also pick up their gear and combine/repair it and sell it back to a vendor. You probably need to maybe slow down a bit and grind so you can get your level up and get better guns/armor/more caps. Dont hesitate, make lots of trips back to wherever you can sell your stuff...megaton/tenpenny tower. Dont go out at night much in the beginning, it's too hard to see and the computer has amazing aim.

Good luck. Once you start getting nice gear the game is so much fun.

Edit--yeah, shoot the arms or you can actually target the weapon itself. Get a sledghammer if you can find it and use it to conserve ammo/weapon condition

2nd Edit--read the manual, it really helped me lol

I like seeing this. I played for maybe 2 hours, then turned it off having been mildly amused. Then, I made a new game (for trophies), and haven't been bothered to play it for more than an hour or so. I want to like it, and I feel like I'm on some line between, "Eh, what's the point of this again?" and staying up all night playing. Just can't seem to cross it...

I think maybe it's because the game mechanics are kind of complicated. I don't really understand the details of repairing and making things, and I can't keep enough ammo.

When you're traveling around, run in sneak mode. If you're running regularly, it makes too much noise and the enemies detect you long before you can even see them. Go in to sneak mode, and go around the map like that. For the most part, you'll always detect them faster in your radar than them, so you can have a choice of going around them or planning your attack. Sneak running has an acceptable speed and can get you to your places just fine, it's not slow at all. Go back to normal and try this.

Oh, and Walter is dead. I think his no-good drug addicted employee snuffed him out. You should kill him.

Im' at 35 hours and have not found my damn dog! I wanted to find him naturally without using a FAQ, but god damn! :lol

I have upped my pickpocketing abilities a ton, but still get caught constantly when I do it. Is there something I am missing?

I think this must be a glitch, but interesting non-the-less. At the beginning of the game, after I left the vault and checked out Megaton, I headed towards the Super Duper Mart. Outside there were about 100 Alien Power Cells. I thought that was odd.

Damn really? That is pretty awesome although it's weird there's no gun. I have only shot about 3 rounds with the alien gun since I want to save it.

Are you playing on pc?

Hehe I just did this since my last save was outside Evergreen Mills. Waited around to see where the Behemoth was going to come from and ended up fighting a Giant Radscorpion+2 normal Radscorpions. Finished torching them with a Flamer and hear "Boom! Boom!" footsteps, turned around and blam! That Behemoth snuck up and one-shotted me :lol

Not a glitch,I found alot around there as well, even found the gun on a Raider

I just got the game and I am loving it, it is everything Oblivion should have been. I am trying to mix up leveling, side quests, and the main story and am on my way towards the museum. In dupont east I hid in a building while crouched and then fell through the floor. It was pretty trippy.

I haven't been using the VATS at all. Is this a necessity? Would help kill the super mutants quicker and with less ammo?

Dogmeat is such a waste imo, I got tired of reloading after he died and just got
Charon
who is SO much better (especially in the experimental power armor).

I love VATS, and yeah, it saves a whole lot of ammo. I just wish I had more AP.

Oh god, Those! drained me of pretty much all of my ammo and medkits. :lol

How the hell do you lockpick properly? I usually have to through 3 or 4 bobby pins on a very easy level lock.

That's a "random encounter" for a special weapon... the better alien weapon, you should be able to find it on the ground, have Dogmeat find it for you.

Has anyone gotten any Achievement-related bugs? I completed "Following in His Footsteps" last night and no Achievement :(

I'm well beyond that point to, so I'm thinking that if I want it, I'd have to just start a new game?

I'm trying to play through the game as an asshole by killing just about everyone I come across after they give me the info that I want.

But I'm getting annoyed with the whole "you can't sleep in an owned bed" thing. Well, I just fucking shot the owner and both of his hookers. Who is gonna stop me now that they are all dead?

PC? There is a mod that fixes that.

Just started the game, any advice on what skills to tag? I was thinking Small Guns, Science and Speech.

Trying to read through this thread is difficult at this point.

Opt Speech out for Lockpick. Then you have a nice setup

Nooooo! not Dukov. Man was a pimp.

speech is not a good place to put any points in. there just isn't much point to it in the game. even on the 10% or so speech challenges, if you're not successful, just reload from a save and try again.

care to point me to a good place to get mods for this:

and I was planning on killing Dukov and trying to steal his ladies, but they ran. So I shot them.

That's the one thing from Oblivion I was hoping they'd fix, and they didn't.

I've just started playing this for the past week and am totally sucked in. Some cool stuff that probably isn't a spoiler, but I'll tag it anyway.

I'm doing some quest for some dude who wants the Declaration of Independance. I meet up with some chick with a super smg and we do the neccessary tasks to get the parchment. When we first started out trying to get to Rivet City, I notice how she seems to be able to take down Super Mutants pretty quickly with her god gun. Together we clear out all the mutants around the Washington monument.

On a whim, I decide to lead us both to the Capital Building, where we procede to do some mutant extermination as the monsters have a turf war with the Talon mercs. We eliminated all enemies from the Capital Building that I doubted I'd be able to do on my own. I'm hoping she sticks around after I complete that quest.

There are definitely some achievement bugs. I'm not sure about that one but you can miss scientific pursuits if you go into the Jefferson Memorial before you make it to Rivet City. Best thing to do is load up an earlier save if you have one.

The only time I had problems with her dying was when we ran into the Super Super Mutant in the core of the Capital building. I had to reload a somewhat previous save because she kept running into the room with the monster and gets squished. :lol

Other than that, I just give her two stims after every other battle.

To make it worse, she's a slave. What kind of reverse bartering did she do to get in that position?
