The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

26 hours in, level 11, and I haven't started following in his footsteps yet....regret picking up the swift learner perks because I feel like I'm leveling too quick for how much of the game I've got left.... amazing game.

That was one of my biggest regrets as well. I thought it would take forever to level for some reason.

Without that damn perk, and without sleeping, the leveling would have been the perfect speed for me.

Although I'm at level 20 now, I'm STILL freaking playing with the same character. This is the first game that actually compelled me to get a gamerscore of 1000/1000.

I'm level five and am starting to get a little... bored? I'm not sure the exact word to use but everything seems so monotonous. So much rinse and repeat. I thought that the VATS was really cool at first but after seeing it in action a couple hundred times I have had my fill. At least the scenery changes a little bit unlike Oblivion.
Perhaps I still haven't put enough time into yet so I hope that it starts to click with me.

what the fuck. doing the 'head of state' mission and when I go to meet the guy at the LM he's not there. I see the arrow, im standing on it, but no one to be found.

I was getting bored with VATS as well just destroying everything with the Lincoln Repeater. I've changed my gameplay style though and quit using VATS. I've started to sneak and use the Victory Rifle. If I don't decapitate what I shoot I pull out the dart gun. I either finish them off with the Blackhawk or put down a bottlecap mine and watch them get blown sky high.

Man, I beat this a while back and I'm playing through it again. I thought I did a pretty thorough job exploring and all that, but I haven't heard of any of the weapons you're talking about. I think I missed a ton of content. I got to level 20 and all that, but I just used the normal weapons (hunting rifle, etc.) and only built the Rock-It Launcher.

I've put 35 hours into this since I first got to sit down with it on the 27th.

Now all these game ending glitches are starting to pop up and it's worrying the shit out of me. I got stuck in VATS mode and had to load. That was understandable. Now I was just doing a quest, all the friendly AI stopped moving and I could clip through all the level geometry except rocks. Tried to load and the game locked up...

Anyways, fucking awesome game. Definite contender for GOTY. My only real gripe is that with only 20 levels, I think you level up too fast.

I was stuck on this for a while as well.

Depending on if you told Hannnibal the area was clear, he'll start to move out....try waiting in-game for 24 hours after you tell him there are no super mutants. His little caravan goes all over the map for some reason, eventually, they should reach the Mall spot, and you can talk to them then, IIRC.

edit: Make that 24 hours.

Ugh, I gave away my Lincoln Repeater to the slaves for 150 caps. I didn't realize how good it was... so I went back to the slaves to get it back. Turned pretty bloody.

lol

I saw that option of selling it to them and I was like "Fuck no."

Yikes. Turns out, killing those dudes was a bad idea. Megaton turned against me. Looks like no abe repeater for me.

They take a while to get there sometimes. Give it a few days, and they'll be there.

Did you try waiting for three days before heading to Megaton? I think most crimes are forgiven after 3 days.

This game is awesome, just too awesome.

I was messing around with Arefu and the Wasteland Survival Guide quests when I stumbled around actually found
dad AND finished the dreamworld stuff
. I love exploring too much, I've found all sorts of shit I can't even open or kill and I just have to remember what is where. I'm already level 11 after 11 hours of playing but damn I wish I'd read a tutorial for character builds.

I didn't realize how awesome that rifle was until I started using it non-VATS. Holy shit. So much more satisfying to pick a Raider off with 100% accuracy outside VATS.

How do you get "good" karma?

There was one story instance that was pretty straight forward and when you give to beggars, but besides that I'm having a hell of a time figuring that out.

Any spoiler-free halp? Kthx bai.

Finally got the silent running feat or whatever, so I can actually sneak attack with melee weapons now... yay

Do quests (picking good options obviously) and kill slavers. Also choose the perk that collects fingers from evildoers.

I got tired of hearing the damn church of atom preacher everytime I went to Megaton, so I planted mines to take him out - at his spot in front of the bomb, his podium in the church, on his chair, his computer, his bed...

The one at the bomb did it... so good seeing his limbless corpse in the water.

Anyone have any idea when the first DLC is out?

I too am feverishly awaiting the new DLC, Fallout 3 is a fantastic game that I would love to see get the same sort of love that Oblivion got.

I just started playing this, and god damn it's awesome! Doing the Blood Ties-quest now, and while it was a bit of a pain in the ass to find the damn Family it's also very fun. Now to figure out what to do when there.

Cousin owns the game and I had a blast just watching him play it last week, I can already see the improvements over oblivion and i'm glad that as you level the enemies do not level as quickly, I found at high level in oblivion that it takes more hits to kill a mob you could 2 hit at the start if you had a good weapon.

I think that I will pick up the game today for myself, here at uni XBL does not work correctly and keeps disconnecting so a huge offline game is just up my street!

Definitely my GOTY 2008 love the game
60hrs in level 19 and almost finished the single player.
Played as good as i could and probably have explored about 60% of the locations and side quests.
I think I'll leave all the other quests for sometime later in the year when i play again as Pure evil.
SOOO much fun.
Oh! DLC, this game is just crying out for a wasteland dune buggy to cruise around the wastes instead of quick travel.

I brought the game used, had £20 gift card to use and it's £30+ new everywhere I looked so used at £25 was my best find, disc is near scratch free though so that is all good.

GAME had the ps3 version for £20 new but not one single 360 copy was in stock, must be popular in the sales.

it's just not one story instance, you can give water to the beggars anytime. There is a beggar outside of megaton and rivet city that never go anywhere. Load up on fresh waters(your robot servant can give you free water if you ask), and give them to a beggar. For me, going from evil to really good took around maybe 20-30 waters and it just took a couple of minutes. That's the easiest way to bump your positive karma anytime it dips.

Can anyone clarify if the quest Scientific Pursuits is broken (PS3). I got the quest in Rivet City from the doctor, but I completed the GNR quest. From what I'm reading I won't get the trophy unless I got the Scientific Pursuits quest from three Dogs or will I still get it.

I'm starting to have technical issues. :(

Sometimes the audio will be delayed or go completely out for a few moments.

It has also locked up on me twice, once while trying to enter Rivet City going through the door and just a few moments ago when I clicked on a bed to sleep. The slider comes up to select how long I want to sleep for but I cannot move it and can't soft quit, I have to do a hard reset.

I'd rather hope it's just bugs in the game and not my hardware going out... I'm on a two week hiatus from work without pay and can't afford another $150 repair bill.

the quest is not broken, just the achievement. if you do not get the quest from Three Dog, you will not be able to get the achievement/trophy.

So, there are no respawns right. Of enemies and/or NPC's? If that's the case, my second playthrough is going to be quite the conquest.

There are a few areas where Raiders and Super Mutants will respawn. The two that come to mind are the Bethseda ruins and the Mall.

Have you joined
The Scientists at Project Purity after finding your Father
? Apparently the game will start
randomly spawning enemies wherever you fast travel
. I've avoided starting that quest for this very reason.

Edit: Actually, some clarification from the Fallout 3 Wiki:
The ending sequence of this quest [The Waters of Life], and the very beginning of the next, is probably the best point in the game to stop the main quest and do the side quests, explore.

I can not believe how addicted to this game I am... I am taking the main quest slow and enjoying exploring the land. I plan on playing through 2 more times to get all the achievements as this is one of those games I would be proud of having all 1000 points.

is the bloody perk worth the guts and glory? i heard it makes searching for loot harder..still really want to see what it looks like..

Well, it does give a permanent +5 damage to everything if I remember correctly, but yeah, it does make looting a little bit harder (but not much), but it also gets old pretty fast when almost every kill you make will gib the shit out of the enemy.

It's not special... as for looting harder... I don't understand that at all.

Also, is it possible to get back into Vault 101? I figure there's a way and I haven't found it yet.

Bloody mess is better suited to Fallout 1/2. It's just not the same in F3.

It was amusing at first, but then it got a little tiring. Shooting someone in the head and watching both of their arms and both legs fly in different directions kinda broke realism (if that's possible when fighting supermutants... but you know what I mean).

I actually found it made it easier to loot corpses. As often their body parts would bounce and ricochet closer to me and you can loot everything they had from just a piece of their brain.

I believe it's slated for January 15th.

Radical. The funny thing is, I swear I remember it initially being due in December. Hmmm, maybe Im mixing this up with the Fable2 DLC announcement.

Either way, I NEED to force myself to go back to this. I still have achievements left to get and Im just 200pts shy of 60k.

I read that you can do a quest and add +1 to strength/perception and another quest to add +1 to endurance. Does anybody know which quests these are?

Should Jericho and I become separated due to the story, will he still have the items (particularly armor) that I gave him when I go back to re hire him?
