The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Can someone please answer my question above?

I have some questions about the release bugs (PS3).

1: Do I still need to turn off system notifications or can I turn them on without my PS3 crashing everytime someone logs in/out?

2: What more did they fix with the latest patch?

1. It has been fixed iirc.

2. Trophies.

I never used the fatman on my first play, because I never found any ammo for ages and ages. I would say they are handy to end a fight quick though or piss about with :D

Does the concept of grinding or leveling up exist in FO3? I find myself getting owned and running low on ammo in some places, should I do other quest first or explore more to get more cash/ammo/guns?

It seems like I do part of a quest, blow my ammo, run back and spend all my cash on repairs and ammo.

BTW WTF is the point of a repair skill if I need multiple guns to use it? Lame.

The first time I played I found ammo lacking a lot, but suddenly I hit upon lots of ammo (not in one go mind you) from boxes and bodies, check everything. But I can't remember exactly where, you need to explore a bit because some places will net you for example tons of 10mm ammo, chain gun dropped by a mutant, group of rebels who all carry AR's.

I think I only brought ammo once or twice at the beginning then just used what I found, also try not to spray unless vital, pot shot with rifles to keep spread down and use V.A.T.S often since it's there to be used, after a while though I slowed down using vats because I was good at headshots with my AR.

Also I never repaired anything other then my power armour and 1 gun, you find enough of each weapon to just swap and use a fresh one. some things are more rare though so depends.

I found the repair skill to be one of the most useful ones in the game. I'd pick up a bunch of weapons, and whenever I needed to lose some weight repairing would get rid of most of it, and leave me with fully repaired and usable weaponry, and valuable if I wasn't using it. That's how I made most of my money, getting a lot of weapons, repairing the lost, and selling. I never really ran into a level problem, though I didn't fully dive into the main quest until level 10 or so. Before then I mostly concentrated on side quests, but even then the difficulty wasn't an issue. I was playing on Normal, so YMMV.

If you don't mind exploiting glitches, search "fallout 3 shop glitch" in Youtube. It will solve all of your troubles.

I don't suggest using it on your first character though.

Repair is one of the most crucial skills in the game and using it is how you get 99% of your money.

I've never had a money problem but I'm having ammo problems at the moment. I'm searching the northwest corner of the map and there are TONS of mirelurks, giant radscorpions, yu gais, and a few deathclaws. It takes a lot of ammo to put these puppies down and they don't give you anything in return. At least super mutants usually carry assault rifles and have lots of ammo on them.

I'd probably be broke and out of money if I didn't put points into repairs. It's the only essential skill in the game.

I can't believe I just wasted 29 hours of my life on this worthless game. What a horrific ending I think I'm just going to kill myself. The last time I do a media blackout for a game. WTF I should have just read some threads, comments, reviews, etc.. so I would not have to wasted 29 hours of my life. This game made me lose faith in all of humanity. There is no God.

Ending was pretty bad. Only I spent well over 50 hours :) The journey there was great, though.

Agreed journey was fucking awesome. Now I wonder how can anyone say with a straight face that this game was GOTY.

calm down there junior.

So what if it had a shitty ending, what's important is that you enjoyed the game. If you didn't either then I dont know why you would continue playing past 10 hours.

That's the problem. All the hours I spent feels like a waste. The ending ruined my entire experience of the game. I wasn't expecting the greatest story of all time, but having the end just fall apart like that really ruined it for me. Normally I can go back after beating a game and explore the rest of the world. I tried going back and doing other quests after I beat it, but I just can't force myself to do it. After the end Fallout ceased being fun and just became a monumental waste of time.

Suicide is the only viable option then. I usually throw a grenade to my feet. If you found a rocket launcher, use that instead because there's more gibs n shit.

Only 29 hours? :lol

Damn I can't imagine how you would have felt if you really invested time into it.

hah you really do get emotionally attached to your games eh?

Buddhism can help you with that, works for me.

I think I am in the minority, but the ending doesn't bother me, it was all about the journey getting there for me.

ahhh... ok. Thanks. I'm not that far into the quest.

Anyone been to the Yu Gui/Deathclaw sanctuaries?

You can find a bobblehead in each of those areas

Oh man I had a fun experience last night. Told the Sheriff about Burke's(?) desire to destroy the town. After he shot the sheriff, I blew him away. Looted both their bodies. Then figured this was a good time to re-attempt my "loot the sheriff's house then the town armory" plan. The plan had failed miserably before. That attack droid was a total dick.

So...I lawfully entered the sheriff's house. Started taking all the stuff I wanted to take before. Then his kid sees me. Crap. He runs through town screaming as a handful of residents start taking shots at me. I escape into the wilderness, sell some junk to the traveling merchant, then head back into town.

It's all okay until I decide that it's quiet enough to enter the armory. The droid starts shooting and immediately drops me down to half health. I get my ass out of there, only to come face to face with the droid and four villagers outside the armory as they all simultaneously turn around and aim at me. Gulp.

I race back inside, grab as many of the weapons as I can, and hole up near the locker against the back wall. I turn around just as the onslaught begins.

Thankfully they're not able to hit me too much, so I've got some breathing room, which allows me to equip my frag grenades. Hop into VATS, target the droid, and queue a shitload of frags. When the smoke clears, the droid's at half health (sweet retribution) and the villagers have been replaced by smears of red on the walls, ceiling and floors (<3 splash damage). A few detached arms and legs were scattered about.

Went back into VATS and queued my remaining two grenades. Brought the droid down to about a quarter health.

I mash B and frantically scan through my weapons. Missile Launcher. Thank you, raiders out near Super Duper Market! I equip the missile launcher and enter VATS one more time. My AP is too low. Craaaaap.

So I start dodging the droid's shots as much as I can, pop two stimpacks, then finally my AP recharges enough.

Targeted the droid with VATS, finally put him down!

I grabbed all the loot, repaired my stuff, healed up, then got the fuck out of dodge...after I sold a single piece of scrap metal to Walter. :lol

We just received word from Bethesda saying that a mandatory update is now available for Fallout 3. It will be up today in all territories via Xbox Live and PlayStation Network and the PC patch can be found on the official Web site and will also be up on Games for Windows Live as well.

A full list of the issues the update fixes is available here.

This update will be required to play the downloadable content coming to Xbox 360 and Games for Windows. The first DLC for Fallout 3, Operation: Anchorage, is scheduled to be released Tuesday, January 27 via Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live for 800 points.

Looks like the 27th for the first DLC pack.

I recently visited
vault 87?
in the main quest, and
I had a follower, some woman from the brotherhood in the citidel, anyway, when you leave the vault you get kidnapped by the president, and well, shes kinda gone now, is she dead, or is she waiting for me somewhere? I gave her a few stuff to carry to sell later...

You're talking about megaton? Who is Burke?

Burke is the guy in the hat thats in the pub area, who wants you to
blow up megaton
.

I wish I shot him, because he sent assassins after me, gave me a right fright!

So are there any skills that are worth maxing out or getting up to 75-80 besides Lockpicking? You say a Speech skill of 50 is enough for most speech challenges and any gun skill with at least 30 is effective. If I had at least a 50 for every skill would that make me unstoppable?

Ah... that guy. Yeah, they have a contract to kill you. I'm a good character so I told him to go fuck himself. I actually like when they appear because they carry good loot and the combat armor they wear is decent, especially when you repair about 3 of them together.

I mean... I kind of expected it. But man.

Oh, well, see all those cars and motorcycles lying around? When you get your repair skill over 20 you can hotwire them and travel around the map quickly.

no you can't but that would be awesome.

It looks like they are fixing the npc death by falling bug according to the patch notes, but I wonder if it's too late for the rest of us whose npcs are already dead or disappeared.

If you really want to stat max, you can probably put everything at 60 and then find all the skill books and bobbleheads to max everything out.

Wow, if you're ever short on ammo hit up the Chryslus building. Lots of super mutants but tons of gore bags and boxes full of ammo.

I have a question that may have been asked before.

Will there be an expansion disc similar to Oblivions Shivering Isles?

Just moved back to my parents and they're internet connection is stuck in the early 90's :( no live for me :(

It's likely that there will be a "Game of the Year" edition with the DLC. They did it with Morrowind and Oblivion. Oblivion's GotY edition (and the Shivering Isles retail disc) was not even announced until over a year after its release so you'll probably be waiting awhile.

That's a nice little adventure. Although, I feel like people don't appreciate the simpler resolution to life's problems nowadays; I just ran up to the droid and beat his ass into pulp with my baseball bat. :lol

Felt kind of good about it afterwards too. :lol

Someone at Valve got misinformed!

"EDIT: It looks like the GFW patch is the proper way to install. We won't be issuing the patch through the Steam client. Please excuse my misinformation."

So...was there every any fix to the "ticking" during the music from the radio on the PC version? Crystal clear with the character interludes, but normal music/songs on the radio sound stuttery.

They've fixed the specular effects in the 360 version (Eurogamer pointed out the 360 version was missing some of the specular effects in the PS3 and PC versions of Fallout 3). It's a subtle change for most things in the game, but scorpions, ants, and some of the weapons and robots look a lot nicer now. No framerate difference, probably was just a bug.

Still not fixed for me. I even went so far as to uninstall all my codecs and re-install my audio drivers. :(
