The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Hopefully something in the patch will fix my radio. Three Dog stopped talking about my quests ages ago and got stuck looping the same boring "news" items.

Nope, I killed him.

Sorry to be stupidly specific, but could you explain how you went about solving that quest? Did you tell him you'd do it and then kill him? Or did you snitch, then kill? Or did you avoid
disarming the bomb
.

Regardless of your choice, you should have some group of people gunning for you.

Edit: after rereading your posts... Yes, the Talon Mercs are the assassins. Did you still not have to deal with them? Or was this a misunderstanding?

Okay.. I'm the biggest Oblivion and Shivering Isles fan... I never had much western RPG experience before those games, which both BLEW MY MIND.. so of course I was looking forward to Fallout 3.. but I just beat the main quest before my dude was even level 12.. it was so short! Call me a fag, but I found the environment and whole mood of Fallout 3 really depressing and not fun at all. I LOVED exploring the land in Oblivion.. the open land and going into the tombs, etc.. learning how to create my own magical spells.. Fallout 3 has NONE OF THIS depth.. it's just a quick jerkoff of a game. I'd recommend anybody who even remotely enjoyed this game to buy Orange Box and play through HL2, HL2 Ep1, and HL2 Ep2... set in a similiar post apocalyptic setting, but done with much more depth and style than this debacle. I'm bringing this back to EB Games tomorrow for Fable 2. Screw the upcoming DLC.. I'll be buying DLC for great games like Castle Crashers and GTA4.

Sucks man, I'm level 17 and have just left Rivet City for the first time. Haven't even met Three Dog or been to Plaza. Somehow after my business in Arefu I stumbled across the whole Tranquility Lane thing out of nowhere... other than that, I haven't even got into the story yet. I'm a bit pissed that the Wasteland Survival Guide didn't net me anything huge but omg I'm going nuts just bumping into sidequest after sidequest.

Finished it today... I am at level 17 or so...

Game was challenging at the start, then started getting real easy... the diffculty just dropped off (normal mode, I wasnt aware of folks recommending to play on hard as I didnt want to spoil the game).

I enjoyed it except for the speed at which you have to walk around which is most likely why I wont play it again (I'm tempted to make an evil bastard character...).

I would keep it longer to wait for the DLC but at $10 I might just sell now

yeah man, I did most of the sidequests, too.. yet it still took me like 9 or 10 hours to beat the thing. Disappointing.

They've fixed the specular effects in the 360 version (Eurogamer pointed out the 360 version was missing some of the specular effects in the PS3 and PC versions of Fallout 3). It's a subtle change for most things in the game, but scorpions, ants, and some of the weapons and robots look a lot nicer now. No framerate difference, probably was just a bug.

Is this true?

That's a real bummer you didn't enjoy it, though FFS don't give it to EB. Goozex or bust, get the full value back.

Wasteland Survival Guide can net some pretty cool shit (besides the the rewards after each act/chapter) if planned correctly. 6% Damage Resistance or 3% Crit is pretty awesome.

sucks that you didn't enjoy it but it's hardly a "quick jerkoff" of a game. sure, i'll be the first to admit that the main quest line is a little lacking, the ending is sucky and the game has it's flaws, but i still LOVED exploring the land in fallout... the open land and going into buiildings, vaults, etc... learning how to create your own weapons.. and found that it did have a great amount of depth. the greatest part was the journey and figuring out different ways to solve the large amount of sidequests and seeing how your actions could create consequences throughout the capital wasteland.

i enjoyed oblivion, even with it's huge flaws. i love the half life series. i've easily netted 50-75 hours for both games, but i'm already on my 4th character for fallout with 35-75 hours for each previous character played. i'm saddened that you weren't able to enjoy the game, but when you make statements like "I did most of the sidequests, too.. yet it still took me like 9 or 10 hours to beat the thing", i suspect that you actually didn't explore what the game really had to offer.

oh, and definitely go goozex!

Seems like people are just mashing through the main questline. I've been exploring around, doing sidequests, finding unique weps etc and I'm well over 50 hours played so far.

It's like the original Fallout games, if you knew what you were doing you could easily complete them in a couple of hours. If you really knew what you were doing you could complete them in a matter of minutes. :D

Kinda of agree with him, this game while fun doesn't have nearly the depth of oblivion. I played the game for 50 hours which broke down to 41 hours of those being sidequests. It took me 9 hours to get through the main story line :lol

Still a good game and I do recommend though.

Wait what? He's been like that the entire game for me... God, that explains why there's only a half hour of radio in the game! :lol

Ok, just finished the main quest
thank god I made multiple saves,
and the end sequence was complete BS. What the fuck was that about. Its almost as if the game just ran out of space so they decided to give you this bullshit last battle sequence
with huge big robot demolishing everything in its way leaving you only to just walk behind him and watch, then throws you in this ridiculously easy fight with the enclave leader, then giving you some bullshit choice to either commit suicide or let the chick die to save project purity. But whatever choice you chose has the same fucking effect.
And then to top it off the ending footage are whatever you want to call it is completely fucking shit.

With that said, the journey was absolutely incredible. I loved every minute of it. Although it was kind of short, especially if you choose not to do any of the side missions. I love post apocalyptic settings, and this game gives me a nice fix. I am going to load up my save right before I enter the last sequence and just head to Megaton and start on all the side quests. Just wish the ending was more of a bang.

Like Oblivion and Morrowind, the majority of content is outside of the main quest. If you just did the main quest in Oblivion, it'd be short as well. And why wouldn't a nuclear wasteland be depressing...?

Also, it's hilarious that you call this game a "quick jerkoff" and then recommend HL2 episodes...

I mean, I can understand not liking the game, but to call Oblivion mind blowing and then hate this boggles my mind.

While I certainly respect others opinions, I too can't understand how one can love Oblivion but hate Fallout 3. I love Oblivion. I love Fallout 3 even more. IMO it improves upon everything Oblivion did.

- the sidequests are much more diverse and interesting.
- over 100 locations. Much more diverse than Oblivion. You get to explore subways, office buildings, downtown DC, major landmarks, caves, towns, slaver outposts, raider camps.
- Better enemy leveling. I found the enemies in Oblivion to be punishing. The main quest was pretty brutal. Fallout 3 throws bigger baddies at you when you level up but there's also plenty of ghouls and raiders still running around.
- more diverse characters in the Fallout universe.
- better graphics.
- better combat system. VATS is awesome. Plus there are more combat options - up close, one handed, two handed, big guns, mines, explosives. Plus you can make your own weapons!
- I really get a feeling of awe in Fallout 3 when wandering the Wastes. Oblivion felt like a much smaller game. In Fallout, I really feel alone in this huge world. Wandering the Wastes at night can scare the fuck out of you.

That's just a list in 1 minute, there's tons more.

Damn I've put like 82 hours into the game and I'm not done with the main quest. I got like 30k caps and a shitload of guns, ammo, and armor.

What's the concensus on the best armor? Is it the Tesla if you're big on the plasma rifle?

I like that armor since you can repair it all the time with all of the enclave out in the world.

okay so I was stoned last night when I wrote my impressions after finishing the game.. In hindsight I liked it, and I'm gonna keep it. I was just talking to a friend of mine about the game, and he like "dude it's not fair to compare Fallout 3 to Oblivion.. they're totally different games" and he made so much sense. I'm gonna run around and explore more and try to find more sidequests.. just so you guys can scold me, I had only finished 19 missions when I reached the end. I'll go do all the extra shit.

I'm a fan of the Ranger armor when I know I'm going to be doing a lot of fighting. I wear Colonel Autumn's outfit
and his laser pistol
when I'm walking around and getting into light skirmishes with weaker enemies..

No, shit where do you get that. I just have the regular one I got from the Enclave dudes.

Damn fallout has so much shit hidden in the game.

I just like the goo the plasma leaves behind, only secret guns I have are the lincoln repeater, the alien pistol, and the experimental mirv

=(

Damn yeah, I went the good route cos I broke the lock on the bottom of the ship

Fuck

Is there a way to get that ranger armor you wear and the laser pistol? I only got the regular kind of ranger armor after doing Reily's quest

What kind of damage does the pistol do?

Fully powered, Col Autumn's Laser Pistol has an attack rating of 78. Its pretty much an energy weapon version of the SMG. Rate of fire isn't as high but each shot is stronger.

EDIT: There's another way to get in. You have to do some diving to find a door.

360 version here.

I can confirm that after the patch, my Colin Moriarty who mysteriously dissappeared for no good reason about 60 hours ago in my game, has reappeared by the ledge in front of Moriarty's Bar.

Awesome!!!

Patch? I just read on another thread that the expansion is due the 27th and came to this thread in order to know more, and now I learn that there is a patch too. Wohoooo!

Is there a full list of fixes for the patch?

Edit: Yes, here http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/updates-v1.1updatenotes-US.html

For the Big Trouble in Big Town quest, the broken protectrons in Big Town become active at the proper time.

So it was that eh? fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck-comic.jpg

I knew something was definitely odd after applying the patch on 360. They added the shaders that were included in the ps3 version, but mysteriously absent from the 360. I had to remove the patch in order to see and prove that I am not crazy!

How very awesome of Bethesda!

Just beat the game and finished up my 1000g achievement whore quest.

Awesome game but........
Am I the only one who thought it was pretty anti-climactic after the Vault Dweller's pops kicks the bucket?

The ending voiceover was cool and everything, but I demand a cinematic or something showing the changes, people fighting the mutants, etc.

I fail to see what was changed between those pics? Can someone help me out. And this is a good thing right? I dont get the "Now its shiny" Seems kinda bad

Have your eyes checked?
Do you not see how the wings have a shader applied to them which makes them shine? Of course, I'm talking about the second picture, but since you asked... had to make sure :lol

Really?

i find the combat much less satisfying than oblivion, as far as depth. Creating magical weapons and your own magic spells. As well as enemy weaknesses to different elements. In fallout everyone is effected by bullets, so you just try to get the most powerful gun in your weapons set. If i could imbue guns with elements or create different ammo it might start reaching oblivion depth.

Other than having stealth being more satisfying in oblivion than fallout everything else is much improved. The game has me by the balls and the extra patches to make the people look more attractive help too.

Yes i notice the difference between shiny and non shiny. Had no idea thats a "shader". Guess ill be checking it out myself, My repaired 360 comes back tommorow :D

Just got 4230 caps for turning in my geomap locations... :O

Anyone know what the max number of "Locations Discovered" is on the stats? I have 158. Which is right for the total number of map areas, but not right if the two secret areas are supposed to be counted.

Ah so the patch was new, my live connection is dodgy here and I thought it might have been an old patch I was unable to grab at the first, so they added shaders and fixed a few little problems? all good new to me.

I'm playing my good char again (from my save just before the ending) to explore the world and do everything I forgot to do, find bobble heads and so forth, I have only just unlocked my Megaton house, so glad now that I can store stuff safely and have my own bed :D

Walking around in full tesla armour is awesome too, I look bad ass for a good guy :lol
