The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Ahhh.... I didn't do that. I hung around for a bit and chatted to a few of them to see what was what, but then went on my merry way.

Damn it, all that work to save them too. :(
Yeah, you have to stick around no matter what or they're doomed. Kind of sucks.

Just noticed the achievements for Operation: Anchorage were added on my 360 account today:

Aiding the Outcasts
Completed "Aiding the Outcasts"
20
Locked

The Guns of Anchorage
Completed "The Guns of Anchorage"
20
Locked

Paving the Way
Completed "Paving the Way"
20
Locked

Operation: Anchorage
Completed "Operation: Anchorage"
40
Locked
they were added to the PC version a little while ago too (with the patch) nice anyways, I can't wait :)

:lol

I was doing some exploration in the North-East of the Wastelands last night and came across
The Republic of Dave and Canterbury Commons. I wish I'd saved before I'd gotten to the Republic as I'm sure there is a chance to disrupt the elections, I got Rosie to vote for herself, but I couldn't persuade Bob. Still, I got a bobblehead from the museum.

And coming across the AntAgonizer/Mechanist.... lulz. Sometimes this game gets pretty heavy with some of the stuff you see or read, then it just throws you into the craziest of situations. Makes a nice change

Actually,
you can't change the elections at all, Dave wins no matter what
:( :( :(

Awww, I thought there might be a scenario where
everyone votes for themselves. I was hoping to encourage regime change through democratic means. Not sure if you can assume power there through violent means, but it wouldn't be good for my mojo anyway

I also swung by Old Olney as well.... one deathclaw I can handle. One after the other and *fast travel home*.

You can. You have to pick the vote box or something. I think it's explained in the wiki.
Yup, you have to
hide under the stairs & search the box the moment that Dave unlocks it.
Pretty stupid really, I tried numerous times before caving in & searching the wiki.

Well, got the game and started playing it yesterday, like it so far for sure. Considering I spent 70+ hours without doing much of anything on the main quest in Oblivion (and then misplacing the save between a computer change), the ways this game reminds me of Oblivion doesn't really bother me.

Haven't loaded any mods though, since I want to get a "pure" experience. Are there any that are considered must have?

Yeah it's a very strange "quest"/town/whatever. The outcomes aren't very rewarding.

Damn I'm going to have to load one of my saves and visit the republic of Dave.

Well I'm ready for Tuesday although I'm still pissed I cant keep on using my guy.

100 gamerscore seems kind of low, although that seems to be the new standard since Fable 2 had the same on the DLC

Developers can only add 250pts of achievements through DLC, and given that there are going to be 3 packs they probably have to space them out.

Something I meant to ask in this thread, my friend said that once you complete the main quest you can't just carry on playing, the game ends. That right? To me the game is pure exploration, I've reached Lvl 18 and I haven't even gone
to meet Dad and the science team at the Jefferson Memorial
. I'm just having too much fun exploring and seeking out new towns and new little quests.

If I can't carry on playing I'm going to have to create a save before endgame and just piss about with that aren't I?

Can't wait for the DLC even though I think they have the releases backwards. Seeing as my characters are level 20 I'll be having to wait til March to get the packs. Hope we get a full proper sized expansion at some point too.

Bethesda are one of the few companies who I get excited over for their work. I look forward to the next Elder Scrolls game too.

Yeah. I got a save right before the last mission where I got my dude all pimped out, armed to the teeth, and rich as fuck.

Ever since I was a little kid I create as many saves as I can. I probably have like 25 saves in Fallout 3.

I keep two save files for each character. One in Megaton before I start a mission and the other to use during the mission. If I mess up, I can restart the mission.

I found using the dart gun on enemies like the Deathclaw make them wussies. I'm sure this has been mentioned many times in this thread but once you use a dart on a deathclaw, they'll limp and you can just keep on backing up and shooting. They wont be able to catch you unless you back yourself into a corner. Makes them very easy. :)

Fatboy makes them really easy too.

last mission spoiler

I had a blast nuking the shit outta all of the enclave when we stormed their place. Didnt use the mirv but it was fun because I was holding back on using nukes for like the 85 hours I had played the game

So what weapons do you guys recommend besides lincolns repeater and the alien blaster?

Save file right before you implode megaton ftw.

Expensive, though. :p

Dart Gun + Railyway Rifle = completely crippled in 5 shots, if they survive. :lol

I avoid the Railway Rifle like the plague. It crashed my game within 5 minutes of using it for the first time. As for caps, you don't have to worry about caps if you use the shop glitch. I have about 50 Mini Nukes on my latest character and I've probably used 20 so far.
Aside from Missiles, the rest of my ammo is in the thousands.

BakedPigeon said:

Wazer Wifle is a favorite of mine.

I haven't got a dart gun yet (although I've made sure to pick up every dart I have found in the game, as I'm sure they will come in handy at some point. Same goes for railway spikes)

Last mission complaint:

Was the robot dumb as rocks for anyone else? It took me 5 attempts to get to the purification area as it kept getting stuck or just stopping for no good reason.

wth? Guess that's another instance of the official guide failing hard...

You can't pick it. Here's what you do (or least what I figured out to do)

When he goes to open up the box, open it as soon as you hear him unlock it. Then grab the votes that aren't for him

FYI: It has been stated that if you start the quest Scientific Pursuits by getting it at Rivet City instead of at the GNR building , that you won't get the trophy. Well I still got mine. I did finish the quest for ThreeDogs.

The only achievement left I have to farm for is the Sharp-Tongued Devil achievement. I need 18 more speech successes but I've finished all the sidequests. Where can I go for more?

Perform Maintenance (x, x, lb, rb, x , x)on your HDD to erase the patch. Then, talk to Knock Knock in Little Lamplight. You can tell her to tell you a joke, and then lie to her and tell it was funny over and over again.

This one still works after the patch. I downloaded the patch and it still worked for me today. They fixed the Big Town one though.

holy crap!

the world map feature from fallouts 1 and 2 is back for 3!

:bow to modders

from No Mutants Allowed
We have waited a long time, but patience is rewarded. Yossarian22 managed to beat Fallout 3 into submission and make it compatible with an actual worldmap allowing you to travel across the states! Let's hear it from the man himself:

Yah, but what this Mod actually does? It adds the entire World map of America, from the very north to the south end and an additional Map of the entire World. To discover the American Continent you can find an aged highwayman at the gas station in Springvale for your free use. It has a Trunk for your Stuff also. If you like to discover Islands, locations at the coast or places far away from the American continent, you have to travel to a Seaport at the East coast, where you can find a Boat for travel.
To point it, the purpose of this mod is to give Mod-Creators an immersive and easy way to create every mod and content they can imagine without bother about how to connect them with the original world or to conflict with other content. They not even have to touch or open one of the original cells. A Mod that is optimized to GTS can be reached by every Player, who has GTS installed.
I made it as easy as it was possible for a Mod-Creator to make his own Mod run with GTS without issues. So, no matter if you want connect an already finished mod or plan to make a Mod with GTS, it should not take much longer than maybe 5-10 min in G.E.C.K. and 4 simple work-steps.

First of the really big ones. Awesome; this should just be the start for really opening things up now.

With this there's the possibility people will start to build the California areas from Fallout 1 and 2 and be able to access them through this.

yeah, you can create "zones" now of content, think of the "entire game of fallout 3" as "Washington DC" zone on the world map, now you get an idea of how friggen HUGE this could make the game....

Wow, that sounds great. I now feel that i made the wrong choice in playing the 360 version.

Don't you hate it when the DLC is coming soon.. and you have 600 points in your account? I wish the point gifting feature was still there.

Does anyone know how many locations there are in the game? I have found 113 of them and I want to know if there are anymore with friendly people because my karma is very evil. I want to keep playing to pick up some achievements and for the DLC but since I have killed nearly everyone in the bigger towns, except the citadel, I have no one to buy ammo or repair my armor from. I cant go to the armory in the citadel because I havent completed the last quest I just left when we go to Project Purity so now all the brotherhood of steel and Liberty Prime are waiting out there at the Jefferson memorial. The lady in the armory doesn't do anything. Any suggestions apart from starting a new game?

You could always do that.
