The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Can I use the DLC with the Asian 360 version of the game? I got a JPN system but I'm playing the asian version.

Argh. It saw it when I started my save, then I go to look again and it's gone. I'm going to redownload it. (Now it reports as 596MB)

It also crashes on load now. I'll try it tomorrow night. For now, I go to bed.

You can start the marketplace without the game.

I have it downloaded (and installed) now... but I have no idea how you actually access the content.

Load your favorite save file.
Walk around until a message pops up and activates your quest.
Make the quest active so you can find your map point.

Ugh I have to sign up for Live for this?

Why can't Bethesda just do it like they did for Oblivion? Or better yet, be available through Steam!
Blah.

really wanna play the DLC now but gotta wait until my new computer is built then I can play this game maxed out with view distance set at highest.

I saw Major Nelson post about this on his Twitter like a minute before I had to leave for work. Turned on the 360 and bought it before turning it off to download.

Now I just have to wait nine hours until I can go home :(

Thats because its new. Just wait and youll get a pop-up of a new radio signal in the wastes.
I got the radio signal, but it just says to go to Bailey's Crossroads. I couldn't find a waypoint. Did I just miss it?

I just started Fallout 3 (just escaped the vault). Should I download this DLC now? Or wait till I get further into the game?

That would be a bad idea. Lots of super mutants to deal with first, and I'm not sure how well you'll fare against Chinese Ninjas either. Best wait until you've spent a little time in DC at least.

Nooo! I've got a lvl 6 char that I want to play the DLC with on Very Hard :( I don't want to use my main because he's already lvl 20.

Any word on the balance of it? Is it going to be too easy going in with a level 20 character, is there any adjustment according to level at all going on?

Eight hours to get home over here. And I didn't buy it yet. :(

my level 20 character isn't tromping through it but that may be because i'm tired as fuck. maybe not though.

So I get into the Sim and I get a message saying Fawkes is dead. This just isnt good enough.

Need to revert to earlier save and send old Fawksey back to Megaton for rest then start the DLC again. (Im getting sick of him following me around hogging all the combat but I like the option of him being there at least).

Yeah, that's pretty fucking ridiculous that I can't buy this through the same service I bought the game from. Ah well, I assume this will be obtainable by other means eventually. GG on losing money Bethesda.

More questions since I'm stuck at work and can't find out myself.

When you complete the simulation can you re-enter and do it again or is it a do it once kind of thing like the regular quests?

Here are my impressions from the two hours I've played. I've gotten two of the achievements so far:

-When you get to the area of the DLC sidequest, you first have to help a group of brotherhood outcasts fight off some super mutants. Then you follow them into their base.

-Once you're in the simulator, you have to infiltrate a Chinese base solo. You lose all your stuff, like Tranquility Lane. You're given a silenced 10mm pistol, a knife, a stealth boy, and apparel. The guy with you says you have the option of going stealth or guns blazing. I went stealth until I met up with him again, even after I picked up a Chinese assault rifle.

-After that, you destroy some Chinese weaponry. When you're done, it brings you to the US base for a debriefing. That's where I stopped.

-It's all combat. You fight tons of Chinese soldiers. You also fight some invisible ninjas who remind me of Raiden from MGS4.

-When enemies die, they evaporate, preventing you from searching their corpses.

-You can't pick up as many items laying around as you can in the main game. I'm not sure you can pick up anything non-weaponry actually. For example, I saw a pile of metal scrap, but couldn't pick it up.

-There are red glowing health and ammo re-generators as you go along. They refill both completely and you can use them infinitely. They also seem to always have weapons, grenades and mines next to them.

-It's super linear so far, reminds me of a FPS more then the rest of the game. There are a few side areas to explore, but not a lot.

So far I like it, but I'm curious where the story is going.

EDIT: I remember now that you can pick up holotapes to listen to.

can anyone explain what to do to start gaining new levels (over 20) with the DLC active?
I can see the XP progress bar now showing 20:::::::::::::::21 but killing enemies takes no XP.
I saved just before finishing the game, went back to megaton and received the radio call to activate Operation Anchorage. I am now directing to the point fixed on the map, but every fight I get involved into does not add any XP just as happened after reaching lvl 20 :(
Ironically I bought the DLC just to be able to continue levelling up and finishing minor quests.
Should I finish the game and continue to play (this should be now possible if I am right) to start gaining XP again?

The level cap doesn't increase until the third DLC, which comes out in March. If you haven't completed everything you wanted to, besides the new DLC, I'd just start a new character.

Hey guys, I just got Fallout 3 PC and wanted to know what's the best mod community website for it and what are the "must get" mods or game(play) tweaks? Thanks. So far, I've found fallout3nexus.

I feel the same way, but considering I've beaten the game twice with two level 20 characters and all the story sidequests completed, I'm not making a third character. :P

Thats what the DLC feels like. (At least the start of it anyway)
Super linear FPS version of Fallout 3 without all the micro managing of ammo, health, items ect that makes the game so good. Its taken away completely. You revive ammo and health via stations that are almost like checkpoints I guess.

Its also complete with guards that duck and pop up from behind crates/boxes with really bad A.I. Just like in silo from Goldeneye 007 on N64. Three times guards actually ran up to me and keep running past to find crates behind me they could hide behind. they then comenced the ducking up and down routine. other times I flanked them and they just sat there doing nothing.

Oh boy I think I did it wrong (but fun)...

I did the quest with the family, I talked to Vance and he said he had the kid locked up. Well I assumed he was some evil cult leader and being the good guy I killed him. The kid then went hostile on me so I put himm down. I then killed everyone and looted their stuff. I got negative Karma for everything. I guess they were not evil after all, oh well!

WTF, yesterday after 75 hours I said to my wife that I finally seem to get a little tired of this game. She looked relieved..But then today already there's DLC?? Oh LOL, have to play it more then :lol

Here's a question about the March DLC that will raise your cap:

Does the increased level cap only come into effect AFTER you beat the game? I'm midway through the main quest but I've maxed out my character. I've spent so many hours exploring the wastes it's not even funny. I now find myself having little incentive to go back to the wastes because my character is fully maxed out. Can I wait for the DLC, have the cap raised to 30, continue on the main mission/exploring the wastes?

Just finished the DLC and I can't say I'm impressed at all. Basically, everything you know and love about Fallout 3 is gone in O:A. They took out exploration and even being able to search boxes, lockers and bodies, instead focusing on an action-orientated linear mission that plagues every random shooter in existence.

I finished it in 2.5 hours or something, but I didn't have any fun to be honest. I never was close to dying once, I just ran out into the field like an idiot blasting away and that got me though the mission.

No this won't do at all, but I'm afraid the next two will be similar to this. I'd rather take a real expansion to this nonsense any day.
