The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Does this game bother anyone else's eyes?

After a couple of hours, my eyes are really strained.
Yeah it really does a number on me, gives me quite the headache as well. First game I've ever had to take a break from every hour or so.

112 hours clocked in, and I just finished the game. All major and miscellaneous achievement quests complete (and Anchorage), 960 achievement points, the only thing left to do is data miner and the neutral/negative karma ranks.

This is the first real role playing game I've ever cared to put time into. It's definately kind of bitter sweet right now that it's over, but the next couple of DLC's will fix that. What a ride.

Sorry, I'm sure someone's answered this deep within the other 195 pages before this, but I waned to know, are the level-ups like Oblivion where you're encouraged to game the system in a completely unintuitive way to make sure you get the best stat gains, or is it just experience points with a set number of stats to allocate every level. If that's the case, is it easy to gimp yourself in your stat allocations?

Stats are fixed at the beginning and can not be raised, except by finding Bobbleheads (one per stat hidden somewhere in the world, giving you +1 to that stat) or by choosing the perk "Gifted" which has ten levels (+1 to any stat per level). 10 is the max for all stats.

Skills on the other hand can be raised by a set number of points each level (usually you get around 20 skill points to distribute, it's based on your Intelligence). You also get to choose one (1) perk per level.

HELP!!!

So I DL'd Anchorage last night, and I cannot get the radio signal NOR does the Bailey's Crossroads Metro door show up south of Red Racer Factory.

What am I supposed to do?

Good, at the least I want it to be twice as much EXP as it was to get to level 20!
lol Quoting myself, just listened to the podcast and Howard said its triple the EXP from level 20to30. Bethesda Am REDEEMED!:D

That's for the confirmation of my thoughts.

Man, that fucking blows. It really does.

So, if I were to continue playing my current character for the next couple of months, is there anything I could do to either (i) continue improving the character without further leveling, and/or (ii) "save" the XP I earn so that it can be put toward the 20-30 leveling, when the patch goes live?

Re (i), I know that I can read books and collect bobbleheads (both of which I have done fairly little of). Anything else?

Man, I feel so conflicted. I'm so sad. Haha.
Yeah this is my delima also, Bethesda fucked up soo bad, I can't understand why they didn't just up the level cap to 25 in the DLC release a few days ago. I'm going to quit for 2 months too, which isn't a good thing. The developers should do things to get people to "KEEP" playing, not quit for 2 months!

Which podcast?

So its triple the XP from 20 - 30 than it was from 10 - 20?

I've put about 4 1/2 hours into Anchorage, and I'm not finished yet. It is such bullshit that anyone can claim to finish this in 2 hours.
It felt like 2 hours, but I didn't clock it or anything. I did finish it after work before midnight, and I get off at 8pm. I'd say it couldn't have taken more than 3 hours. I just crept through dealing out head shots repeatedly.

Man, I know. I'm fucking hurting. I want to keep playing, but I can't keep using my current character right now. It would just feel like a 'waste'.

So, I am thinking of going one of two routes.

(1) I could start a new character, focusing on fundamentally different stats/skills. Perhaps by the time the level update hits, I'll have two characters at roughly comparable spots, and I'll be able to choose which to take from 20 to 30.

(2) I could just put F3 to the side for now and focus on some of the games in my 'back catalog'. In particular, I'm looking at Braid, the new Prince of Persia, The World Ends with You, and a couple of Pixel Junk games that I downloaded but never played.

Thoughts?

Play Braid, then make a new F3 character.

Bethesda could make a new content pack every month for the next couple of years, and I'd keep buying them. Last night - after tracking down
Agatha and finishing her quest
and collecting the last of the bobbleheads, I finally broke down and went to the citadel to start the final mission. I want more. I want a mission where I go to the facility where the super mutants are still being created and destroy it. I want it to keep going on and on and on.

I'd almost say that I want an MMO, but I don't. I want the single player experience, but I want to continue from here, and walk to the pitt, and do a bunch of quests there, and then make my way across the country to the west coast, and solve crises there. Bethesda has really done an monumental job of creating a great world to play in.

I was actually pretty proud myself, I found all the bobble heads myself apart from 2. The first one I missed was that bullshit room in the armory (small arms bobblehead) where you need to activate the locked door. I couldnt figure out how to get up the top (actually easy) so gave up not realising there was a bobblehead in there.

The other was the 'Rockopolis' bobblehead. I mean lets be honest, Id say most people didnt find rockopolis:lol

I'm gonna sue Bethesda if I can't get rid of this stupid-as-fuck corrupted crashing saves bullshit bug. They don't even have any goddamn support guide on their website, holy shit.

PS3 version? Is it the one where it crashes when you walk through doors?

I hope the March DLC is large, considering it's raising the level cap to 30. I get the feeling the three DLCs is all we're getting but, Todd hinted there might be more. Sadly if there is more, I might run out of room on my 360 HDD. :(

I really want a DLC with an epic battle where you and a group (lets say Brotherhood of Steel) are fighting a huge army. Of course I also want more to explore.

just stopped my second attempt at playing f3. the game just doesn t click with me. i am around level 11, and have done some story and side quests (Survival Guide, Those!, Vampire Quest, Android). for me the game just feels soulless. where are the charismatic characters and WTF!? quests from fallout 1 and 2 ?

some other downers:

- find the quest npcs for yourself -> holy fuck I don't want to search all of rivet just to find mr. xyz's apartment.

- subway system. it sucks. period.

- finding locations on the map, my first trip to rivet city consisted of fail, aids and horrors.

Tell me I'm not the only person that's spent many many minutes crossing the wastelands while over-encumbered? I hate leaving anything behind that has a sale value or might be a component for a weapon. :(

That's the synopsis of Fallout 1. Sounds like you should start the other games.

Rule of thumb: don't pick up any junk worth less than 100 caps. The most lucrative way to make money is to repair weapons (especially assault rifles and energy weapons) until they're in peak condition.

Carry some buffout with you at all times that gives you some extra strength.

I finally went into the deathclaw sanctuary and cleaned it up. Man the gauss rifle and flamer really takes them out good...and of course me and Fawkes are practically unstoppable.

I'm shooting deathclaw hands out of my rock it launcher, pretty cool.

I never did! :D

Buffout will grant you a bit of extra strength which can help if you are slightly overloaded, otherwise I'll fast travel back to base, dump a load of shit in the locker and pop back again if needs be.

Its handy when you have a companion as you can start giving them stuff to carry for you.

NB - Power armour also grant you +2 strength.

That's great advice, thank you. :)

Yeah. Unfortunately they don't stack so didn't quite cover the extra 120WG I was carrying last night! :lol

I'm a bit of a purist with these games, I try not to use those if I can avoid it.

I'm playing stealth/sniper so I'm trying to keep my attire light. Just standard Leather Armour and the Shady Hat at the moment (Level 10).

I'm not a full on RP'er by any means, but I do like to try and play within the context of my character.

Yeah dude the power armor gives you some more strength. The power armor from the dlc is pretty sweet.

I got the prototype medical armor but damn it seems like it could barely take any damage I had to stop using it before it broke on me.

Who's the best vendor in the game to take your armor to so he can repair it?

I guess it varies from one vendor to another right? their repair skill?

Crazy Wolfgang is the best but you'll need to do something first to get him at max repair skill

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Crazy_Wolfgang

yep it varies from each trader, the wiki has alot of them listed, but you'll need to look though it, here is a start

Is there any way to get Quantums back after giving them to one of the people? I gave like 15 to the girl before changing to the guy. So far ive given him like 20.

I tried killing them, checking their fridges, nothing. Guess i have to look for more?

Just finished the DLC. Enjoyed the story aspect but it was fairly meh overall. Still, looking forward to trying out a few mods and seeing what comes next.

So I just got the final achievement for Fallout 3. Im reduced to wandering aimlessly (ironically, very much like real life) around the Wastes looking for outlined locations indicating an undiscovered location.

Amazingly I found a couple towers way up nor-east near Republic of Dave.

So, after the DLC, I got a real Fallout kick again, and decided I was going to hunt down all of the bobble heads. I got about 11 and was going for the energy weapons one in Raven Rock. Only trouble is that I finished the Raven Rock part a long time ago, and don't have any saves from that part. I really can't go back in and grab the bobble head?

Did you make
eden blow it up?
I think if you didn't maybe you can, but IIRC you cannot get it past that part.

No matter what you do, you can't go back. Luckily, I grabbed the bobble without knowing it was a one way trip, but I can see how others could miss it.

so fallout was getting kinda of old on me after awhile until i installed mmmfs increased spawn mod. its pretty awesome trying to take on armies of super mutants.

i had to keep jumping back in the chamber to save myself and bottle neck the places that could shoot me from.

yeah ive just been reading up on it, sounds like it should be fun, i wanna see what the gargantuan super mutant looks like (even bigger than the behemoth)

Does anyone know if theres a cheat that you can input to show all locations on the map? ive completely finished the game with every achievement done, but I want to keep playing in the world while I listen to podcasts.

Unfortunately I didnt get the perk that shows all locations, and Im sure Ive missed 2 or 3. I guess theres maps online that show all locales? Still, a cheat code would be more convenient.

Strange... just looking at the achievements and I've noticed I'm missing a few I should have. I don't have aiding the outcasts for instance, even though I've finished the simulation.

Quest is still showing incomplete (as are a few others).

Yeah, I got the same glitch with Aiding The Outcasts. Had to reload a save right before you enter the simulation (then actually enter) to get it. Fucking bugs.

Well fortunately for you guys that achievement is unlocked as soon as you get into the sim, so no need to trump all the way back through it.

wat? After actually finishing the quest, can you re-enter the simulation to get the achievement if the game bugged out the first time?
