Running and gunning is possible in this game but

1) You need armor that can soak up the damage you'll be getting

2) Its a huge waste of ammo

With that said, if you want to run and gun, look into building the Big Guns skill. Flamer, Gatling Gun etc will allow you to mow down stuff. But the easier way to play the game is to slow it down, conserve ammo and pick off enemies one by one.

I finished Anchorage today....it was ok. Very combat focused, and also extremely linear. The anchorage backstory was very weak...hardly anything there and really didn't feel like a massive battle that it was supposed to be. The Gauss rifle is awesome to use, and the main thing which holds it to a higher accord. Ultimately, Bethesda didn't give us 10 dollars worth of content. It should have been priced half this amount. They better step it up for the next two packs, or give me a real expansion instead of something which is half assed.

According to Todd Howard from Bethesda the next 2 DLC's will be pretty much exactly what we want.

I hope so. On the one hand, I'll pay for one bad dlc pack since bethesda gave me 80 hours of fun off the retail package. On the other hand, I got 80 hours of fun for 60 dollars and 3 and a half hours of mediocrity for 10 bucks. I'm really interested in seeing what happens in The Pitt, and we get a real back story with real questing instead of doom levels of first person shooting tunnel linearity and worse AI.

are cool addition. But yeah, I found the whole Anchorage scenario pretty lackluster... I was actually rushing through it just to get those two new items. The Suit totally breaks the game though :lol that and the Alien Blaster = Blaster to the Face (Point Blank)

Like I have a 1920 x 1200 monitor but I'd rather run the game lower to get a good framerate. But when I pick a 16:10 resolution, it makes it letterbox, squishing the image.

Or is it a problem with my video card like new driver?

PC should have 16:10 support. Have you tried Bethesda support over at their forums?

I should have mentioned 1280 x 800 works fine. Nothing is stretched.

But I tried 1600 x 1000 and it gets squashed.

So maybe it's a video driver issue? I dunno, there is no new driver available for my card so I'll have to go the modified driver route...

IIRC, you can either save it and go on a killing rampage afterwards, donate a shitton of pure waters after blowing it up, or like me thus far on my neutral, just leave it.

Technically, if you save it, you could always just keep accessing a red cabinet/desk/whatever...but it's gonna take a while.

My guess is that you have to start looking for the evil option in quests to move away from being good. Leveraging between good and bad branches to remain neutral. You could just kill some Wastelanders out in the field for bad Karma to get back to Neutral (or as stated, Pickpocket/Lockpick).

So I downloaded a modded video driver (185.20) and it fixed it right up.

Kinda silly Nvidia didn't include many resolutions with my card, 9800M GTS...

Where the heck can I find the family? I've circled around the three spots for ages but there's nothing in 'em. Then I confronted my first Super Mutants and lost right about all my ammo/explosives but managed to kill six of the fuckers... this game is much more fun on hard though now I'm so broke.

I'm only like six hours in and I've got 20 Nuka Colas (one quantum) and I heard these are hard to come by? They're everywhere

There's a subway station next to a shop just a bit north of Arefu. In the subway there's two ghouls that you can sell Sugar Bombs to (they make Ultrajet). There's a passageway in that subway that leads to the tunnels where the Family lives. There's a lot of traps, and you'll know you're there as there's a security guard.

I'm a huge Fallout 3 fan but seriously you don't miss out on all that much. The two upcoming DLC's though. Those should warrant hardcore Fallout 3 buffs to buy a 360 (assuming they don't have one).

After reaching GNR, I went back to Megaton to do a bit of leveling and am now in the middle of the Arefu quest. Clearing one of the dungeons, I'm encountering Radscorpions that take a fuckload of bullets to kill. Ammo is so limited so I'm relying on VATS to conserve ammo but I always run out of APs way before I can kill the Radscorpions, having to backtrack and take a few hits while recharging the APs. I have about 55 points in Small Guns and am switching between the Hunting Rifle and Assault Rifle. Am I doing something wrong?

I'm in the same spot. Radscorpions seem to have a lot of health so it's no biggie if it takes long to kill them. Just smack them around with a melee weapon if you want to conserve ammo. And the super mutants were indeed tough but with your small guns skill level it's easy to make your way right next to 'em and blast some criticals to their heads.

(I have a kickass sniper rifle that one-hit-kills those mutants :b)

You're not doing anything wrong.

I completed the PS3 version with two characters (120+ hours, platinum trophy, etc) and once Bethesda put out a Game of the Year version for the PC with all the DLC, I'll buy it.

You can either wait for the third expansion (in april) to continue after the main quest or just got back to the other file.

Small Guns seem infective against Radscorpions, the only Small Guns weapon that seems to take enough out of them is the shotgun but the weapon itself deteriates pretty fast. The best weapon to use against Radscorpions is Big Gun weapons. Either case, I just try to avoid them via crouching and changing my line from point A to B a little. The amount of ammo you need to take on out and the experience you get from one isn't worth the expenditure.

Also, I would kind if stay away from Downtown for the time being. The explorer in you probably wants to rove around but kind of keeping a close perimeter then venturing out a little farther from Megaton seems to be the safest way to tackle the game (when you've first started playing it). You'll start to build an cache of ammo, weaponry and caps.

Also, remember, crouching in FPS mode and I believe in VATS will help accuracy.

I've been in Fallout withdrawal for the last week or so after beating the game. I've tried to start playing a few other games but they sort of bore me.

It's weird but after you finish a really good game just a good game feels worse somehow.

Swivel the bobby pin around, and move the screwdriver a little. Depending on how much "give" you have, that's how close you are to the correct "spot" that will let the screwdriver turn all the way.

Good luck finding bobby pins, I only managed to find them in containers or lockers. Hint - after you try picking the lock two times, exit out then go back in. That way you never break your bobby pins.

Hey uh sorry for resurrecting this old thread but I'm in the mood for a really awesome rpg on the PC and am considering purchasing fallout 3. I have mass effect but I keep feeling like it's just a series of rooms, doesn't feel like a huge world at all. So I'm kind of disappointed. What's the verdict on the PC version of fallout 3? Will I get the huge-open-world-with interesting-side-quests feel I'm looking for?

Fallout 3's side quests are miles better than Mass Effect, and there's an expansive world to explore, albeit some spots can be a bit barren, but they're few and far between.

For the most part though, I felt there were a satisfying variety of side quests to do, and from what I remember, each had their own unique and interesting story.

Only big gripe I had with Fallout 3 was how quick you hit the level cap. After hitting it, I no longer felt compelled to continue playing with that character, so I would recommend grabbing a mod that slows down leveling, if you have no intention of powering through the game.

yeah I've done a few of the side quests for mass effect and they are awful. Do you happen to know of any issues with fallout 3 purchased from steam? or any issues with the PC version of the game besides the levelling pace?

I bought the retail version of Fallout 3, so I wouldn't know of any Steam problems. Personally, I never had a single memorable problem playing Fallout 3 on the PC. Almost always stayed above 50 FPS on my (8800GT, 2.66GHZ Core 2 Duo, 2GB Ram) rig maxed out with 2xAA/8xAF @ 1680x1050, and the times it did dip were few and far between.

id avoid fallout 3 on the pc until they fix the bugs the newest patch introduced, it dramtically lower vats accuracy, had a 1-3 second load time EACH time you go into vats, and like 3 or 4 perks related to accuracy dont work at all.

They're randomly found in medkits and ghoul corpses. That's it. You can't buy them.
