The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

I can't decide if the game hates me or loves me.

My character has run into
Deathclaws
not once but twice - at levels 2 and 5. On the flip side, being an unarmed/sneak based character, the rewards for surviving said encounters has proven to be pretty amazing.

Just started a new chara, and I have a question on Sneaking....does it need to be absurdly high?

I'm like level 5, 60 sneak. got the pip-boy light off, no radio playing, just barely tip-toeing forward, and in a dark space....and I still get to caution/danger before I even see anyone, can't get the sneak critical bonus.

Or am I doing something else wrong?

No wonder why Headshots for me sucks donkey balls. I remember having the Sniper Perk and the Rifle accuracy perk on the 360 and headshot accuracy was on par with the torso... not so with the PC.

I believe weight of your equipped Armor and what you've get in your inventory factor in when sneaking. I forget how many sneak criticals I got at 60 but I get them nearly all the time at 100.

But rereading your post, I thought it was just about Sneak Criticals. At 60 skill points in Sneaking, your still very much exposed if you don't stick to the shadows. Your nearly invisible at 100.

Are you even supposed to get random Deathclaw encounters at those levels? Unless your going places where they naturally occur?

Yea, I remember there being a deathclaw cave somewhere, maybe he just got (un)lucky?

I have no idea. The first one I encountered was out front of the Super-Duper Mart the first time I went there for Moira's quest. The second time was me leaving the station after finishing up the "Blood Ties" line, it was right in front of me just after getting back topside. The second instance was the one where I found the schematic.

Super Duper Mart? That doesn't make much sense... Probably the game glitching up at some point. It probably won't happen on your next character, but you'll probably continue seeing Deathclaws all the way in this game.

wtf?!? Are they...working on this?

There are random encounters where you might meet nasty things at lower levels. I ran into a giant radscorpion outside of the Super Duper Mart that was friendly with me until he randomly aggroed me.

Also, having high Luck is interesting, simply due to the Alien encounter. You can get this weapon that can have (at its max) 500 Damage when you critical with it (and it has nearly 100% critical when you've got high luck). It also lights the enemy on fire.

The encounter is random and its signaled by this explosion in the atmosphere. Check out the area around the explosion and you'll find the gun (and the ammo for it, the ammo glows in the dark).

Im not sure how true that is. There was some confusion early on about the explosion you see. It appears that explosion is actually a meteorite crashing to earth, and you can indeed get alien blaster ammo from it. -edit- I just remembered: You do find a gun that is exactly the same as the alien blaster at this meteorite explosion site, but its not the actual alien blaster. (I used it to repair the alien blaster - both guns have identical stats)

But the actual
UFO crash
where you find the alien blaster is a locked down location that you can access as early as you want.

can you run in this game? like sprint... if so...how!?!? (PS3)

and do you have to play the game 3 times to get all trophys? level 8 with good carma /bad / neutral???

Yeah, the
UFO
seems to be a static place (I've got that weapon) but explosion seems to be the
Firestorm? I think its called
. I've had it happen once but didn't acquire the weapon (this was before I knew I could get a weapon from it, I thought it was just dropping ammo).

The crazy thing is that any Wastelander than can pick up a gun can pick up that particular weapon. Imagine facing a Raider with an Alien Blaster :lol

That's kind of how I felt when I got the schematics to make the
Deathclaw Gauntlet
from the second encounter. I was level 5, probably close to 6, and easily one-shotting Super Mutants from sneak. Even out of sneak a Super Mutant takes only a couple hits. The special properties of the weapon seem like it'll be something I want to carry with me for the rest of the game.

Well, that's disappointing. What makes you think it's a bug and not intentional?

I'm back into the game, bringing my second character to 20th level and doing all the quests I missed the first time through.

You Gotta Shoot Em In The Head is an amazing adventure. It sent me to the four corners of the map, to places that were hard to get to but always interesting. This quest alone is better than anything in Fable 2, including the Main Quest.

Regarding alien weaponry...
There are two alien blasters in the game, a 'typical' alien blaster and the 'Firelance' which is an even more special version. One can be found whenever you hear an atmospheric explosion. I heard it near Meresti Station and the blaster itself was on the roof of that building. The other is found way out in the Wasteland. You'll get a rad reading and if you search around enough you will find a small, crashed flying saucer complete with dead alien pilot.

I know this well because while my first character found none of this stuff my second character found both alien weapons. What a great Get Out of Jail card that gun has become.

I've been exploring the Wasteland a lot more since I don't have to worry about fighting everything that notices me since I have the Chinese Stealth Suit. I found Susie Mack from Vault 101 wandering about. I thought that was cool.

Your pretty much invisible with that Suit if you have at least 90 Stealth. Use the Silenced Pistol at point blank range and the enemy won't be able to spot you (louder, larger guns make you detectable though).

I tend to use the glitched Gauss Rifle just because I think its a little more fair than killing everything undetected. If you move into cover for a couple seconds after shooting, you won't get spotted when you move out of cover. I also like sticking live grenades and mines in people's inventory.

I've been meaning to ask, whats glitched about the Gauss Rifle? Is it that it tends to not hit its target sometimes (I noticed this and its pissed me off).

Also, as you said, being able to put mines/grenades in an enemies inventory in broad daylight is so awesome.

Edit: I just looked it up and that hasn't happened to me yet. What has happened is trying to kill something with it in VATS, direct hit and no damage registers at all.

I couldn't even load a goddamned save file without getting a crash. This perplexes me to no end because Bethesda is traditionally a PC developer. Why Fallout 3 shipped with so many game-ending bugs is a huge mystery.

The glitched Gauss Rifle I'm talking about has extremely high HP and would take forever to degrade.

I am at the end of the game.

I need help:
How can I use the virus that the president gives me?
I want to put the virus that the president gave me in the water to kill everything. But the game forces me to go with the Liberty Prime army. Even when I get to the panel, I can't use the virus. I am only given two options; save the day or sit it out.

You might want to edit your post as someone will likely want to smash your face in for those spoilers.

You put the virus in the compartment outside the main ring with the console in it (far wall of the "airlock"). Once you've entered the room it's too late to use it.

Spoiler tags are your friends. Embrace them. Kiss them when no one is looking.

So it is inside the same building where
I am told to enter the code and die of radiation?

PS. Sorry for not using spoiler tags; I thought the game was old enough by now. I also noted the ending in the first line then went two lines underneath it to ask. Besides, the game doesn't have much of a story, really.

It's in the same room. Literally just to the right of where you're talking to the woman to make your decision.

10000!!!!!!!!!!

Has B said when in April the 3rd DLC will release, I've decided to wait for it and The pit DLC, I'm hoping its the first week or so. I hate not being able to play because of the stupid level cap! ;/

Noticed the radio thing there... I really wish I could fix my PC version so that the music no longer skips. Fills me full of rage because the music is so good. :(

Even went so far as to disable / uninstall all my codecs. Nothing seems to fix it, even though it works fine when it's playing on a radio in the game (rather than the pipboy).

I got the 360 version of Fallout 3, but with all the mods incoming I'm going to get the PC version down the road.

Now, since I already bought Operation Anchorage on my 360 and Live accounts are one and the same between 360 and PC, does this mean I can get Anchorage for the PC version for no extra cost?

Thanks for that!

Finally, I finished this God boring game. Now I can sell it and move on. Fuck, I don't think I'm going to play another Bethesda game for a while. Their games bore me to death. I only got this one due to the hype. That'll learn me...

umm sorta pissed off...

So I went on my bobblehead collecting run... and the 17th one I go for... is the energy weapons one that I cant get because its locked up in Raven....

What. The. Fuck. I haaaaaaaaaaaate it when games do this....

Wait really? I just beat the game and I was planning on bringing up a guide and getting all the bobbleheads. Your saying I can't without starting over?

Yep. The Energy Bobblehead is the only one that can't be recovered... well, without cheating (on the PC).

I think you can still get it back after you leave
I believe I missed it the first time through but during the mission where you go back to the Vault I got it

Well on 360 I can confirm the gauss rifle wears out, I've had it repaired several times already.

The power armour from that quest doesnt though.

Referring to the glitched gauss rifle from within the simulation, not the vault with the Chinese Stealth Suit and Winterized T-51. I believe it does wear out but it just has ridiculous HP. I've probably gotten at least 500 shots out of it by now and the value went from 500 to 499.

oooh, interesting links zombiesupastar, thanks.

Bookmarked, might check some of those out once I'm satisfied with "vanilla" Fallout + official DLC.

Anyone post the Pitt shots yet?
