The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

I installed the GFWL client on my PC, noticed I have to pay again to download anchorage on PC.

I'll wait for the goty edition.

OMG. Totilo got them to answer my question!!!

http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2009/02/20/bethesda-answers-your-fallout-3-dlc-pitt-questions/

BenjaminBirdie @multiplayers How do you get to Pittsburgh from Washington DC. No, seriously. Will it be on the map or what?

MTV Multiplayer: You take the train.

Hines: You take the two-man train [with those handles that each person has to pull up and down]. You don’t do it in real time. You take it and then you get there.

MTV Multiplayer: You would need the Wii for that, because you would need the WIi remote [to make the up and down motion].

Hines: It would be several hours of really boring gameplay.

MTV Multiplayer: [laughing] I meant: “You would need Teddy Ruxpin for that.”

YEAH!!!

mtv just posted an interview with bethesda about the pitt expansion

Bethesda Answers Your Fallout 3 DLC "Pitt" Questions

Is it as combat focused as Anchorage? Because that’s not what I want.

Hines: No. It is much more in line with some of the other stuff in “Fallout.” There are these two factions. There’s a story: the slavers vs. the slaves. And you have to figure out who you want to believe and who you want to help. Clearly, there’s combat involved, but there are multiple ways to go about doing things. You have to decide ultimately what you think is right, because there is no real right or wrong.

is it as linear as the last one, or open world? Is it a separate environment? Does all my equipment transfer over?

MTV Multiplayer: Well, we know it’s a separate environment. [Note from Stephen: not only does it have its own map, but once you go to it, you can't come back to D.C. until you've finished with it.]

Hines: It is linear unto itself. It’s different from “Anchorage” in that everybody won’t be doing it the exact same way. The “Pitt” folks may side with one side or the other and go about doing things differently — so in that sense, it is again a bit more like “Fallout” in letting you be the kind of person you want to be.

lots more.

edit: eff you birdie

What!? Is this seriously true?

What if I decide to format my OS, and reinstall the game? Can't I just log onto my Xbox Live account as usual, and download it again? :/

no you can re dl it, he means he bought it on 360 and it wont carry over to pc.

What a ride, just finished Take It Back! and I'm amazed: I thought the ending was great and there is a sense of closure.

Did most of the side quests and clocked about 50 hours.

Now there's the long wait for the level cap DLC before I move on to Anchorage and The Pitt as I don't want to start a new character :(

I'm on the edge about actually buying this game or just getting Star Ocean. I rented the game, and I blasted through the Main Quest so I can make the 5 day rental without getting fined.

The ending felt like a cop-out, but the journey was just amazing. I even finished a few side quests. Though when I had to return it I didn't even get to explore half the map...

man, i am so loving fallout 3 now with the Wanderers mod installed, seems so much more like a struggle to survive you can die in like 3 or 4 shots now (so can enemies though!), crippled limb make you either walk so slow, cant aim, fall down, or concussion effects.

Having to eat or drink is a pain but fun and there are cooking tools in the game now along with water filtration machines. I love being able to use metal based junk to repair guns (yay tin cans have a use) or wood based items to repair wood based items. (having tools like hammers and stuff in your inventory gives you repair boosts also). Also it adds skill based hacking so itll run a check against your hacking skill and something else and give a yes no on stuff instead of the minigame (you can still do that though..), and I like that explosives now can breach locks (some of the time)

using the martigens mod im fighting like 10 raiders at once now instead of 3, vats is sped up (no more 15 second slo mo for one shot) and they can attack you alot easier during it, im playing it more like a strategic fps now in combat and its actually pretty fun) accuracy is tuned up more and i like being able to use vats further out (like triple the normal distance) and still be able to hit stuff, I only hope its that awesome when I get full small arms and sniper perks with the sniper rifle (oh the fallout 1 and 2 memories with that).

so any pc gamers try it out, ill post a load order which seems so far to crash less (but it still crashes here and there so remember to save!)

oh yeah i did use the "seducing womens" (http://fallout3nexus.com) mod, gives more romance options and quests for my lesbian cyborg character :lol

I'm all modded up and setting up for a playthrough, reading about some of the overhauls in this mod, does it make the game... ridiculously difficult? It sounds like an exercise in frustration based off all that stuff.

Then again it might be nice to play like that, playing through on Hard difficulty in vanilla provided no challenge at all.

So I just got this game for the PC and it has been a long while since a game hooked me so badly. I even was making up excuses for why I had to leave my girlfriend's house so early in the morning so I could go home and play some Fallout.

That said I am always nervous about gimping myself. I'm assuming since this is PC I'll be able to hack my save file and re-allocate my stats/perks? I'm throwing a bunch of points into Small Arms / Sneak / Lockpicking right now. No clue if thats a good strategy or not.

LOL! It is! My character has all 3 of those maxed (lvl 16) and I'm a killing machine. Seriously. I picked perks that give me massive boosts in critical damage.

Thats a good build for anyone just starting.

Both the weapon in front and the choice of clothing of the gentleman on the right are causing some movement in my pants.
i.e. looks awesome.

Is there a bug in the Head of State quest? After bringing the intel back to Hannibal he tells me they'll leave in about an hour, and to meet them at the Lincoln Memorial. So I wait for an hour, watch the caravan begin its slow plodding journey, and fast travel to the memorial but they never show up. I wait for 24 hour periods, sometimes for up to a week, and they never show up no matter how many times I load the game and try again. I really don't want to escort them. It would take a long ass time, and they're a bunch of retards to boot. The one time I tried the caravan was attacked by a single radscorpion and they used the missle launcher on it, killing it, a couple members of the caravan, and dogmeat.

This was quite literally 100 feet south of The Temple of the Union, like 1/100th of 1% of the trek. It would be funny, if it wasn't so damn frustrating. I see of no way to get those fools to the Lincoln Memorial if I can't fast travel.

You need to meet them at the metro tunnel entrance near the Lincoln Memorial, if the quest is still selected on your Pip-Boy. It should show you which one.

I had that problem too. It's really hard to protect them because they usually get killed so fast.

What I did was fast travel to the spot on the map that is in front of the mall entrance iirc, near the lincoln memorial

I would just wait for like 4 or 5 hours at a time and then once they popped up and thanked me

so there is a way to fast travel there and not have to escort them personally

not much help but there's a way

edit---beaten

They don't show up there either. I've tried waiting at the entrance, and inside the tunnel, all to no avail.

Being that my favorite character is a melee weapons (and explosives) specialist, I am going to have to agree with you, good chap. He looks dashing indeed.

must be a bug
i fast travelled, it took them about 2 days to get there I think.

You should be fine. IMO, the only way you can really "gimp" your character in this game is if you take all the skill point perks that offer +5/+5 to two skills, or the experience bonus perks. They offer extremely poor returns and in the case of the experience bonus ones, completely unnecessary.

This was bugged for me too. First time they left they walked about 20 steps then started running everywhere like nutjobs, 3 robots show up and start shooting the crap out of everything. In the end they just ran away in all directions and vanished.

Next time I had the same problem as you, they finally showed up half dead about 3 days later.

Anyone have tips for a side quest I could do that would give me just enough XP to be shy of reaching lvl 20? I'm about 300-400XP away from lvl 20 and want to get the bulk of that just before hitting lvl 20 so I can do the multiple-save thing to get all three karma achievements.

*If it helps, I'm able to activate the "Oasis" quest.

list

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_quests

one of them

300 XP Big Trouble in Big Town, but you'll get more then that when you go though the quest

Totally random - but I was just at Starbucks and the "I dont want to set the world on fire" song came on their music system/flat-screen. My wife looked over at me and said "Isnt that the song from your game?" :lol

yes you will die, ALOT sometimes 2 or 3 shots could kill you depending where they hit you, and woe is you if you get knocked down (yes you can now), also if you get a crippled head you basically have a concussion and have severe double vision and your aim is like really off. but the positive is the enemies can go down quicker too, like im talking 1 aimed vats head shot can 1 shot them alot of the time.

i like it its fun, using marts mod makes it even better, nothing like running across a gang of 12 raiders at once lol!

the eating and drinking does get a bit annoying, but im told you can find a water purifier and cooker? somewhere, also containers can respawn eventually, and i havent ran into too many issues, (cept i have to drink like 10 nuka colas to satisfy thirst, what are they alcoholic or something?)

Late to the party (360). Glad I showed up. I like this about 10x as much as Oblivion so far. Just escaped the vault. Took my time, hope I didn't miss anything.

On the OXM podcast, it was confirmed that XP stops counting after level 20. Too bad, I guess I'll wait until all three DLCs come out to start playing again.

Uhh, WTF is this shit? I placed all of my items in the locker beside the door in my Megaton house (because I read on Fallout wiki that that's the only "safe" locker) and after some adventuring, I return to find it completely empty. Son of a fucking bitch. This was a bug in Oblivion and it's happening again now? WTF. I can revert back to an earlier save but it means losing an hour or two of progress and goddamnit, I don't have that kind of time to waste. Fuck.

That's strange. Items I dropped on the floor 40+ hours ago are still there waiting to be picked up. I've got the game installed on the HDD if that changes anything.

My vault 101 jumpsuit is still in my locker after 50 hours.

Finally decided to beat this last night. Had a few more quests I could do but I figure I'll leave em for the next character I make. Want to get a more melee oriented character ready for the autoaxe :D . Will make sure to get pyro perk and ninja this time as well for some awesome shiskebab slicing action.

That same exact locker did the same shit to me. And it was only that locker.

I reloaded an old save and moved all my crap to the locker that's on the opposite wall. Never had a problem since then.

OK so from what I understand, the last expansion pack - Broken Still will raise the level cap to 30, so can I just wait for that and only then download the other two expansions? 'Cause I wanna use the new quests to get to level 30(I beat every single quest in the game).

Of course. Or just download them and dont play them. Or download them, play them, then replay them (load an earlier save from just about the time you hit lvl 20).

Whats the date of the next DLC anyway?

Is there anything I can do about the damn font of the PIP-Boy? I'm playing on the 360 on a 42" 1080p display at what I would call close viewing distance and it is a real PITA to try and read the font. I changed the font color to white but it is still very hard to read. I can only imagine someone with a standard def TV trying to read it. It is so bad I sometimes have to get up and stand 3 feet from the damn TV just to read the PIP-Boy.
