Ok I just started the game, how do I get the Megaton armory to open?

Iam lvl4, I am at the part where you meet the brotherhood and you follow them to the radio station where this huge things keeps coming at us but I keep getting killed, any suggestions?

I need some weapons, where else can I buy ammo and weapons other than Megaton armory?

You need to branch out and do some side quests, explore a bit..you're pretty under leveled for the radio station right now. You need to up your lock pick skill a lot if you wanna break into the armory. Also, at the radio station...when you run into the super mutant behemoth there should be a dead brotherhood guy with a fatman which you can use to shoot a mini nuke at the behemoth.

Don't just follow the main quest. You're going to be missing out on A LOT of the game.

Behemoth at level 4? :O

I'd advise doing a bunch of the side quests first.

Anyone know how many non-Broken Steel new quests there are around the Wasteland?

I wont give the name away but I found a new quest in the History Museum. Anyone found any others?

Scroll down to side quests and unmarked quests near the bottom.

There's a dead Brotherhood soldier near the fountain (?) in the middle of the area. His body has the Fat Man. It's a portable nuclear bomb launcher.

Get a suitable distance away from the Behemoth and fire a shot as soon as he reveals himself. He should go down in 2 or 3. If I recall, the dead soldier comes with 6 or 8 mini nukes.

i'm about the same point as you. level 4, and clearly under-leveled for a lot of these quests. my problem playing games like this is that i get frsutrated i can't do everything at once, over-extend myself, and get killed constantly. haha.

my friend has recommended i do some of Moira's quests (from the craterside supply) to get out, level up a bit and also find some more stuff to sell, before attempting some of the harder stuff. out wandering in the wastelands i found a few raiders, who i killed for their weapons (assault rifles, shotguns etc). they are a good source of weapons and ammo so far.

Did some side missions, Big Town/police station missions and the Find the Family and that fucking cannabilist, fucked up shit.

Anyways I am trying to do the Slaves mission but everytime I get close to one they start blasting me, how do I capture them without killing them? where can I get a pokeball :p

Awesome game BTW, hated Oblivion to death but I love this, I guess it's the more interesting setting and the satisfying combat system.

Just got this game and am enjoying it so far, am just at the point where you are looking for the family.

I do have a couple of questions, i checked a bobble head guide and noticed i missed the one in your fathers desk in vault 101 and was wondering if i would still be able to get this later on in the game or if i have missed it for good.

On the same not is there any things i have to look out for such as items/missions that you can miss and not be able to go back and do at a later time as i am looking to get all the trophies in 1 playthrough.

Any help would be great, thanks.

You can get it later.

Yeah, you have one more shot to get that bobblehead. There are two other bobbleheads that can be missed and never gotten again.

Strength Bobblehead - kind of a spoiler, but pretty much everyone knows about it already -
Is in the Sheriff's house in Megaton. If you decide to blow up Megaton without getting it, it's gone forever.

Energy Weapons Bobblehead - more of a spoiler but I won't give away any plot details -
Towards the end of the main storyline you go to a place called Ravenrock and the bobblehead is located on a desk in there. You only have one shit to get it, once you get to a certain area of Ravenrock you'll never be able to go back and get it.

Thanks for that, will keep it in mind.

Are there any other things that might prevent me from getting all the trophies if i were to miss it or leave it too late?

Did anyone else find Broken Steel tough? For me every quest in the game up to this point was average or fairly easy. The only time the game felt hard was the first 10 or so hours. Broken Steel has been by far the hardest quest, partially because Clover kept dying (eventually I sent her away) even when wearing the Operation Anchorage armor. It would probably be a lot easier with high sneak; mine is only 68 while wearing the Chinese Stealth Armor.

Broken Steel is still my favorite quest in the game. Bethesda was really on top of this one.

Yeah BS made the whole game tougher. I usually wear the hellfire armor because as long as you keep it in good shape the DR is 50 as opposed to the 45 of the OA armor. Game's a lot more fun now that I ditched fawkes. I'm level 29 looking forward to getting to 50 and starting off a new game-missed a lot of the game in my first play thru since I blew up megaton as soon as I got the chance.

--best thing on overlords is to just shoot the gun out of their hands they're slow if they charge you and you can keep on shooting them with the heavy incinerator

I barely use vats against them unless it's to shoot their gun because they take so much damage

Well I'm fed up with my game crashing whenever I alt-tab out to go to my browser. So I'm looking to in-game browsers.

Can anyone comment on one that works well with this game?

So I finally got around to the Head of State quest (never did it because I heard it was buggy). I already cleared out the memorial a long time ago. I went to the Museum, returned, and I was told to meet at the memorial. I'm there but nobody has shown up. Will they ever show up or is this the typical glitch associated with this quest?

Yeah this happened to me. I just waited for like 8 in game hours. Then I went to the metro where the objective marker was and they all showed up.

I've used Steam's built in web browser before and that worked well. Just launch the game through Steam.

Xfire is another option too and probably a little less resource intensive than Steam. It also defaults the homepage to the Fallout 3 Wikia guide, which is really handy.

Thanks, didn't know the Steam overlay would work with non-Steam games.

Anyone know of a cheat that lets you disable perks?

Im such a stupid cunt. A stupid stupid cunt. Not only did I get the swift learner perk way back at the start of the game because I thought it would be helpful, I - get this - GOT THE FUCKING PERK TWICE!

Thats right, minor kills get me 30xp and major kills 61xp.

I just did a mission up near Old Olney and had to fight lots of death claws, so I put the difficulty down to very easy just so I would get as much xp. It meant I only got 31xp off each kill which is good. But it was sooo easy. I dont wanna leave it on very easy because that just renders my whole chem supply obsolete, not to mention apparel and just plain enjoyment from challenge.

man I wish I could disable/enable perks at my leisure.

They won't show up at the monument until after you talk to them. They'll all be standing in a group a little bit down the road. I was confused at first and right when I was about to give up on the quest I ran into them lol.

I started playing oblivion thanks to F3..and I'm actually having fun with it so far (and haven't encountered any bugs or crashes yet). Damn you Bethesada.

Fallout is my first PS3 Platinum trophy, I like how all the trophys were normal objectives things you would do instead of stupid things like play the entire only using certain weapon types to lessen my fun. I want the dlc :(.

So I figured this would be the best place to ask, does anyone know the best place to find this game on sale? It still seems like it's full price just about everywhere, does anyone know of any deals going on anywhere?

Bethesda games tend to hold value way better than any other developers games, especially on the consoles. Unless you get the PC version you may just have to fork over the full price.

However, this is one of those games where spending $60 on it, +$30 for the DLCS still gives you well over your money's worth.

I played this game for about 160 hours, so I payed about 1.77 per hour of play. Not too shabby.

Keep an eye on ebay and www.half.com and you're bound to find a good deal at some point. I snagged a sealed copy for PS3 for $35 on ebay using buy it now. It's a shame Bethesda takes so long to lower the MSRP for their games though.

Anyone still using xfire? Is it bloated?

So I have been testing a possible fix for the 1.5 + mods issue, created by ElminsterEU on the Bethesda forums, and I must say so far, using 1.5, my mods (see my mods post) and then running his fix at the end of setting them all up (after you have your load order correct!) Fallout 3 runs even smoother than the game did vanilla for me, no crashing, no issues at all thus far (*knocks on wood*).

I think we have an answer for our modding woe's with patch 1.5 he needs testers though guys so:

after you get your game setup with your patches (use unofficial AND official 1.5), mods, and desired load order dl the FO3Edit tool

The FO3Edit tool, Information/Issues thread

when you dl the file rename the FO3Edit.exe to FO3MasterUpdate.exe and run it
(it will do its thing then close it when it says to)

if you want to revert the files back later
rename the FO3MasterUpdate.exe to FO3MasterRestore.exe

also if you add a new mod after running the FO3MasterUpdate.exe, you need to run it again, (same with activating/deactivating plugins using FOMM)

Also a new martigens monster mod coming out today!

Some stats as at RC2:

* Over 2000 new or changed entries
* Over 1000 files in meshes, textures, sounds etc
* Around 187 new scripts
* Total NPC entries -- 453
* Most NPC variants -- 177 Raiders
* Total Creature entries -- 492
* Most creature variants -- 120 Super Mutants
* More hours of work than I care to remember. Mostly fun, when the engine isn't a POS.

::: New Creatures

:: The Rambler -- The Rambler is a bigger, stronger, beefier and more dangerous Feral Ghoul. His claws are also toxic, and will poison you on contact. Dangerous as he is, he's called a Rambler for a reason and limps slowly along, lunging towards you -- don't let him get close!

::: New Features

:: Feral Ghoul Raise -- There is now a chance for Feral Ghouls to raise in front of you, where you see them get up right as you approach, sometimes right when you least expect it...

Raising Feral Ghouls, without or without limbs missing, will have a 50% chance to raise while you're away to encounter them later as you trawl back through a dungeon, or instead to raise only as you get in range of them. These dead Feral Ghouls, prior to raising, also don't show up on your radar so you don't know which ones they are...

...as usual, however, to prevent Feral Ghoul raising you need to shoot of its legs or head.

:: Environmental Lights -- Corpse Flies and Fireflies now cast light on their environment. See the eerie effect of Corpse Flies lighting up the dead, while the wilderness Fireflies look stunning in the night time air.

:: Robots Explode -- Robots now have a chance of exploding with force a few seconds after they die. If they do explode, there are dozens of different dismemberment combinations, and with a chance for a full explosion for complete destruction.

:: New models and icons -- Thanks to Dragontamer all the new MMMF3 loot creatures drop will now have unique Pipboy icons and world models. Dragontamer is still working on the models at the moment, but I can tell you the icons are superb smile.gif

:: Skeleton Decay -- Corpses will now decay to skeletons after a time. To keep it simple and efficient the effect works at cell resets -- bodies will become skeletons after one reset, and then the skeletons themselves will disappear at the next. This means in zones that respawn after one reset you will fight fresh enemies among the skeletal bodies of their former comrades. Additionally, skeletons aren't always complete -- they have a randomised engine to create full body skeletons, part body skeletons, or combinations of body and limbs -- perhaps animals or Feral Ghouls took a chunk out of them while their bodies lay and rot... waste not want not afterall!

im having trouble with the pitt dlc on 360 i brought both broken steel and the pitt and loaded up my save and activated broken steel and the pitt and instead of doing broken steel i decided to attempt to start the pitt but i keep getting freezing and have to reset my 360
yet playing through broken steel ive had no issues
before you suggest it ive cleared my cache redownloaded both dlc tried fallout 3 from hd and disc
any suggestions or will i have to start the pitt on my next char?

sorry MattyH it seems like youve exhausted pretty much every possible fix I could think of. How many saves have you got? I remember Oblivion getting a bit freezy when you had too many saves (I think thats what happened). Maybe google Pitt freezing or something see if theres others out there with same problem.

After my own frustrations with certain things and looking at all the cool shit PC players get to mess with, Im starting to wish I was a PC player before a console player. Both have their pros and cons but the flexibility the PC has as an open platform versus the closed dictatorship of LIVE is hard to swallow sometimes.

So now that finals are over I finally have time to play Fallout 3. However, since it's been a while since the game came out, I am sure there are some pretty sweet mods out so far. Do you recommend playing Vanilla Fallout 3 first, or should I play with mods first? What are the must-have mods if I choose to go that route?

Search for any post in this thread that was done by ZombieSupaStar.

You might want to avoid mods until they all update to work well with the 1.5 patch because it causes a number of mods to screw up.

ZombieSupaStar got his stuff working with 1.5 though.

...this mod is just incredible.

It basically turns the game into a "World" landscape.

That way modders can create all the locations they want, and using this mod as an "interface" type of thing, they can place their location anywhere in the "globe" in the PIP Boy. Basically, it'll bring all the places that modders create, and give them the ability to literally make it one giant world where you can travel between locations like the old Fallouts.

New Pip Boy: http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/1460/fo320090517142656.png

The Ocean: http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/306/fo320090517142927.png

Here's another cool one. Called Existance 2.0.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5612

Another fantastic mod, adds a robot dj radio station full of ambient music with a quest only doable by listening to the robot's lucid dreams.

Fits perfectly and immersively in the Fallout world.

I love having the pc's console commands. Rebuilding a character of my choosing to take through all the side quests I missed is great. Just getting around to checking out the dlc now. Pretty stoked to get back into the swing of fallout.

Well, it looks like Head of State is permanently screwed for me. Everyone is waiting there inside the memorial. All the slavers are dead. The group doesn't recognize it for some reason. I've talked to every single one of them & nothing happens. Damn, it will be the only quest I won't complete. :\

Do the mods for the PC version of FO3 make it different enough to be worth re-buying? I'm on my second playthrough on 360 right now and am about to dive into all of the DLC, but the increasingly major changes being made by the PC mods have piqued my curiosity.

I guess before I even ask that, I should make sure my PC can run Fallout 3...
