The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Well put. 85+ hours for me and I still haven't reached level 20 or beat the main quest, or even touched any DLC. It's all about being there.

Does anyone know how much the GOTY edition is expected to cost? Release date?

I cant wait for the GOTY comes out, as many did i traded in my regular edition a little while ago...and I'm about to give Oblivion GOTY a shot in the meantime.

Its set at 59.99 and according to gamestop: (http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=74997) preorders will ship 10/13/2009 so I'm guessing around then...which is soon but not soon enough :D

I don't suppose there's been any hint of whether there will be a guide to accompany the GoTY? There was a new guide provided with the Oblivion GoTY so I hope they do the same for this - didn't manage to get one at the initial release, and the prices went through the roof in the UK once they were sold out. :(

Free Fallout 3 Premium Theme*
Written Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by James Parkin

Today we got word that Bethesda is offering up a free Fallout 3 theme if you're a Fallout 3 fan. Actually, you really do need to be a fan as the only way you'll net the premium theme for free is to have purchased all five of the Fallout 3 expansions. “Operation: Anchorage,” “The Pitt,” “Broken Steel,” “Point Lookout” and “Mothership Zeta."

Those who have purchased all five expansions by September 22 will receive a token from Microsoft to download the theme for free starting Oct. 1. “This is something we’ve been asked about a lot and we’re happy to finally be able to bring it to fans as a small token of our appreciation,” said Todd Howard, game director and executive producer for Fallout 3.

The theme is also available right now for purchase at 240 Microsoft points.

Good news Playstation 3 owners, Bethesda today released an update for your version of Fallout 3 that optimizes the game and clears the way for trophy support for the game's upcoming downloadable content.

The first DLC to hit the PS3 version of Fallout 3 will be Broken Steel, available Sept. 24. That will be followed by Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt on Oct. 1, and Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta on Oct. 8.

Bethesda also announced that the Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC will be available at stores on October 13.

The Game of the Year edition includes the game as well as all five downloadable content packs. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will retail for $59.99 and the Games for Windows version will be available for $49.99.

Perfect timing for me. I'm at about 90 hours and just about to take on the last two main quests! One bad thing I've already hit the level cap and want to beat the game before getting all the DLC in the GOTY ed.

In my experience leveling up is really easy in this game. In 90 hours I've hardly spent any time doing true griding - there's always something to actually DO to build experience. Plus I'm anal about stuff like the fingers/ears and scrap metal. I'm assuming I won't have trouble getting to 30 with the five DLCs, even if I miss out on the XP from the last two missions. I still have three or four side quests to complete in the main game, too.

After finally playing and then subsequently selling FO3, I really hope these FO3 GOTY editions let you use the old save files (PS3). Otherwise, I have no reason whatsoever to buy the new edition.

Thats pretty cool. I don't really care for themes but if its free...

Shut your hole and get back to the NBA thread!!!

I already did about 70hrs on my 1st play through of Fallout 3 on PS3. I will definitely be buying Broken Steel but not sure about the others. Haven't checked what they add to the game, Any thoughts?

Built my first computer back in 2007 and am now wanting to give it an upgrade so it can run Fallout 3 GOTY edition on high settings well.

Power: FSP Group SAGA+ 450R 450W ATX12V
Board: MSI K9N4 Ultra-F AM2 NVIDIA nForce 500
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor Socket AM2 Dual-Core
GPU: GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3
Memory: 2 x 1GB DDR2 800
Hard Drive: WD Caviar SE16 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

Can I get away with just dropping in a new card and overclocking a little bit? Never OC before, so would prefer not to, but figure it's something I should probably learn at some point any ways and maybe now is the time.

Or should I gut it and get a new board, processor, and gpu? (might go all out and get a SSD too if I do....) Budget isn't too big an issue, just looking to get good bang for my buck.

Figured I'd try here first since it's a fairly F3 specific question, but might try the PC thread as well.

I presume that it won't count if I got the Pitt and Operation Anchorage on the disc and the other three via XBL? Wanna make sure before I buy the theme then have it given to me.

I started playing this on PC a few months ago, slowly making some headway (I've done a few sidequests, and 2 out of the first set of Moira's sidequests). I wasn't too into it at first, but I'm starting to get the grasp of it. Just finished the Germantown Police HQ.

Are there any good mods that I should be using on my first run through? Mods that don't drastically change the gameplay. I guess I'm looking at maybe some graphics mods, mostly... not sure if I want to use FOOK, Marts Mutant Mod or that Wanderers mod yet. Maybe Project Beauty... any other suggestions?

Oh, and I need help with the side quest "Them!"...
How do you defeat the Fire Ants easily? I can take out regular giant ants no problem, and I always aim for the antennae, but the fire ants always destroy me. I'm up to the part where I'm going to try to stop them at the source, but I don't want to try it yet until I'm ready to fight them without getting raped. Should I come back later in the game at a higher level, or is there a certain weapon/tactic I'm missing?

Eat the nectar that the fire ants drop when you kill them, it gives you a resistance to fire and makes it much easier

Oh fuck yes-- I totally did not realize the GOTY edition was coming out so soon. I have been missing this game so bad lately but sold my copy awhile ago when my 360 broke. Cannot wait to get back into this.

Need help again... I went back to that subquest I talked about, and I'm still doing pitiful damage to
fire ants. Yes, I'm aiming for the antennae
. Maybe I just need to find another shotgun, cause I no longer have the weapon :-(

I was looking at my achievements after I finished Mother ship Zeta.. I played Fallout 3 every month from January to August except for July this year. I think that is the longest I have ever played ANY game. Over a hundred hours. Insanity.
Yeah I got it day one and am still going strong.

Fucking love this game. Can't wait to see what Obsidian does with New Vegas.

Just picked up Broken Steel on the PSN Store. Should I play it with a new save I started about 4hrs in or a save I have where it is just before the end of the game?

Also about the rest of the DLC, I've only seen the trailers for Broken Steel, Operation Anchorage and The Pitt. Which of the remaining DLC besides Broken Steel is really worth it?

If you have not hit the level cap in your save just before the end of the game, I would suggest you continue it with Broken Steel.

I have only played Broken Steel, but I heard that Point Lookout is as good or even better than Broken Steel.

I guess I will go with the new save then, I put in about 70hrs and hit the level cap way before I got anywhere near the end. Thanks, I will check youtube for Point Lookout vids. Do I get access to the new weapons/armor throughout the whole game or only after I finish the main storyline and start Broken Steel?

Throughout the whole story. But this also means that you get to encounter the new tougher enemies anytime. Some of them are extremely hard to kill, especially at low levels. I remember abusing saving/reloading the game to be able to kill some of them. :lol

PS3 Fallout 3 GOTY is $59.99.

I bought Fallout 3 for $25 bucks, downloading only 3 big DLC's (excluding Mothership Zeta and The Pitt) and assuming every DLC will be 9.99 brings combined total to $55.97.

Should I bother buying the GOTY version? I mean I'm hearing that The Pitt and Zeta aren't that good.

nah youve seen the best fallout 3 has to offer, save for alpha protocol and wait for fallout new vegas like the rest of us :D

I'm finally getting back to Fallout 3 after having a failure of an XBOX 360 for the last year. My 360's disc drive stopped working the day I bought Fallout 3 so I never really got to play the game. I have a new 360 and I got the add-on pack with The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage from Target for $9 today. I installed those. Any add-ons considered essential for the Fallout 3 experience? I heard Broken Steel was a big one with the level cap increase. Can I get that a little later or do I need to have it from the start for a better experience with the game?

I've played through the PS3 version a couple times and just got Broken Steel. It's great, but the level cap increase is of no benefit until you're about to hit level 20. The new story-line segments don't take place until after you've won the proper game. The only benefit may be a few pieces of tech, but those likely won't appear until you're facing later enemies.

Long story short, get it before you hit level 20, or as you're about to beat the final mission in the main story.

So Broken Steel, Point Lookout & Operation Anchorage?

Just as I thought. All the DLC for Fallout 3 is $9.99, however the ones out on PS3 are Broken Steel, The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage. No Point Lookout yet.

My chara is like Level 13, should I get Broken Steel or Operation: Anchorage first?

Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta on October 8.

Wondering if I should wait and buy all 3 of the DLC packs at once.

If anything, buy the GOTY. It's cheaper in most cases. In the UK all the packs cost 39.95 Pounds, and the GOTY costs 29.99 Pounds with free shipping on GameStation.co.uk.
Like I posted above some of us bought F3 on the cheap so that + DL'ing the Big 3 DLC's is actually cheaper than buying the GOTY version. Yeah you don't have 2 of the stories, but Mothership Zeta looks like the worst of the DLCs and The Pitt isn't something people will die w/o IMHO.

Has anyone else gotten Broken Steel for the PS3 version?

If so, has anyone else's PS3 Fallout 3 turned into a buggy-as-hell mess?

I swear, ever since installing BS and getting the associated patch the game frequently chugs in the Wasteland for minutes at time (we're talking probably a sub-15fps framerate or worse at times, and you can see the HDD light just blinking away like mad, this lasts for at least 30-60 seconds when it happens) and I've had two game freezes during firefights - one just a random firefight in the wasteland, the other the fight after you enter the base in the first BS mission.

It did that to me all the time, and the last time I played it on PS3 was months ago. I don't think it's anything new, it's always been buggy like that (for me anyways).

No more that it did before I go it to be honest. I've had a few more instances of freezes during VATS (particularly with the "messier" hits) and had to do one of two hard resets. I've put that down to more action than I'd seen in the main game however.
